Last month, he earned a trip to the USA Boxing National Championships in June with a 3-2 decision over Mexican Olympian Javier Torres at the USA Regional Tournament
.
Javier Torres was never a Mexico Olympian - he doesn't even have 20 recorded bouts in his book! I also heard the decision at the Regionals was very controversial. 8)

Hi Joey - I "assumed" when you said Mexican Olympian that he participated in the Games. 8) I saw his book and he didn't have a lot of bouts. He also appeared "green" at our District tournament - so now I'm confused. I'll find out.

Hmm - hope he got officially released from the Mexican team - I think there is a 3-year "wait" rule now, but am not sure.

"By Tim Trower Mail Tribune December 15, 2007 The connection between Javier Torres and his heritage waned ever so slightly in recent years. The last time he visited Mexico, he was 12 and his family there was plentiful. They were leisure trips, fun trips, but they ended when many of his relatives moved to the U.S. JAVIER TORRES WHO: A 2006 graduate of South Medford High who is in his 10th year as a member of the Bulldog Boxing Club. PAST: Won two national junior championships and has compiled a 52-16 amateur record. Sparred regularly with teammate and superheavyweight national champion Mike Wilson. "

The Javier Torres I'm speaking of is boxing for the Commerce Boxing Club in Southern California. That is a very common Hispanic name. I will ask either of the Molinas or Robert Luna the next time I see them.

Yeah, he was on the Mexican team but didn't qualify for Beijing. I think he's from Oregon.
