I was in the thick of the Audley/Herbie riot, although I made damn sure I got out of the way post-haste.

If it was Wembly conf centre, I would have been filming on the stage, and no one is usually sitting behind me, cannot remember if there was a scuffle at that fight, I will have to have a look at my taping, but yeah, TV do tend to film that if it happensjamesmcdonnell wrote:Eric, was it you I was sitting behind at Wembley Conference centre, I think it was Michael Ayers last fight - there was this geezer who was getting done over by about 20 people, think he actually started it, and I remember there were a camera crew there and they were playing back film of the crowd fight, which was the cause of much laughter amongst the press row. Re: bad experience at the boxing
At Audley's debut, Tasmin Outhwaite was absolutely pie-eyed. Does that count as a bad experience?
Re: bad experience at the boxing
Nothing to do with violence but the Hatton-Lazcano 'event' was so boring I couldn't wait to get out of there. No decent fights and 55,000 people (1,000 of them actual boxing fans) with 95% of them being clueless numpties. Whereas small shows like David Barnes-Ted Bami were really good atmospheres, and the fights on the card were much more entertaining.
Re: bad experience at the boxing
Nothing major when i first went to boxing when i use to pay for tickets, i one bought a ringside ticket (120 quid) for Ricky Hatton vs Dennis Holbaek Pedersen i was in a carp seat due to the corner post was in the way. Now having been to most venues i know where the good seats are at.

Yeah, conference centre, I was up on the stage that time, as I don't think my cred was for press row - I may be confusing it with another fight, but there was a bonzer scrap going on and people were having a right old laugh at this daft fat pillock.ERIC GUY wrote:If it was Wembly conf centre, I would have been filming on the stage, and no one is usually sitting behind me, cannot remember if there was a scuffle at that fight, I will have to have a look at my taping, but yeah, TV do tend to film that if it happensjamesmcdonnell wrote:Eric, was it you I was sitting behind at Wembley Conference centre, I think it was Michael Ayers last fight - there was this geezer who was getting done over by about 20 people, think he actually started it, and I remember there were a camera crew there and they were playing back film of the crowd fight, which was the cause of much laughter amongst the press row. One thing which was quite impressive, was that although he got a kicking, he managed to make it back to his seat with a full pint!
Re: bad experience at the boxing
I remember filming the ABA finals at the conf centre and it went off, I actually filmed it, I saw what was gonna happen, there was a scuffle ib the upper seats to my right, and one of the Langley brothers who is about 8st dripping went went in to calm it down, and one of the Boxers dad from Liverpool, Blind sided slipped him a left hook, Langley took the shot well but did retaliate!! might even put that up one day, ............

I was just about to say the same thing. I couldnt wait for the whole show to be over - the whole card was pretty boring start to finish.winkveron wrote:Nothing to do with violence but the Hatton-Lazcano 'event' was so boring I couldn't wait to get out of there. I am really gone off big venue/stadium boxing - never felt that I have gotten value for money.

Arnt you from Gorton T? Surprised you managed to turn out OK - just OK!Terence wrote:It is because a lot townies go to the fights here in Manc. The kids are spoilt.oliverfennell wrote:For some reason, the Mancunian boxers often seem to attract the, ahem, less enlightened members of society. In the worst examples, Brodie v Chi and Farnell v Takaloo did not exactly feel like meetings between the Equal Opportunities Commission and Political Correctness Brigade, put it that way. I know the boxers themselves are by all accounts very decent fellas, but I just wonder why they have these fans, and is it a Manchester thing.banjo wrote:Went to Hatton v Maussa in Sheffield back in 2005 with my girlfriend(who is hispanic by the way) and was unfortunate enough to be seated near a bunch of chavs shouting "go on Ricky lad, kill the f*cking "spic" bastard!" which as you can imagine my lady wasn't particularly thrilled about.
At a certain age they sign on, slip on their leather Rockport caps, tuck their tracksuit bottoms into their white socks, gel their hair straight, even though they are going to wear a cap, and then go out into the real world to watch a fight.
Fundamentally they are shitheads who attack 20-1 and cannot fight. So they start on small groups. They are all over the country, here we call them townies, an unusual number are ginger and freckled, I suspect that inbreeding is a factor.
On the plus side they cannot get it up, are dull and ugly, so their girls come to Gorton and Belle Vue Greyhounds track looking for real men, or they did when I worked there.
Tragically my niece has recently brought one home. Mum's a teacher, dad a desk sergeant, and the lad takes photos of himself making gun gestures to the camera, I actually think he is retarded, but it is hard to tell with these townies.

buying tickets to see audley harrison.BIGMARK wrote:I have been to quite a few shows over the years and remember at my first being showered with coins as a young man with my father sitting ringside to watch Bruno -Bugnar (free tickets). in general i have been quite luck and have always ended up next to good people rather than drunken fools although i didnt enjoy the Atmosphere at the Audley-Williams 2 fight at the Excel where there was a lot of problems with the Khan Army fighting with French Africans who were there to support Khans Opponent on the nite. The fighting got quite heated and delayed the show and the MC had to get up in the ring ask for calm. Apart from that its always been good natured and when i've been to the USA the same.

I sold the land next to the Monastery to a developer on behalf of English Partnerships - the viewing days were a particular delight. Gorton is at its best on a pizzin wet Wednesday mornin! I'm was also instructed on that shipping container site next to the railway line in Ardwick (the glamour!)Terence wrote:Aye, born in Saint M's by way of Ancoats, moved to Mossy and then upgraded to Gorton. Gorton was a sleep little place back in the 1970's, by all accounts, it is now a right shit-hole. Mount Road was a nightmare.sligobhoy67 wrote: Arnt you from Gorton T? that riot at benn-gimenez was the worst one i can remember at the boxing.ERIC GUY wrote:Yeah that was a bad night, I was filming from a scaffold built for the tv, but they did not use that position, so I managed to get that place to film the Boxing from..Mike Goodall the MC told them to stop as they are being filmed, and the police would be looking at the footage, , POINTING AT ME!!!, bloody idiot, lucky they ignored him, otherwise I would have been killed, jonny wrote:A bad one for me was at the NEC when the McCracken v Foster fight was on the undercard of Benn Giminez. The sibsom fight was against Frank Tate I think, not hagler as that was in he states,
Another bad 1 I was at was in Paris, Derek Williams against J M Chanet, The was an absolute riot, Lennos sent me there to film it as he was gonna fight the winner, and about the 11th round chairs went flying etc, people fighting, if you ever look at the video 'Boxing Gone Crazy' which I helped with, you can see it on there, and I am in the middle of the ring filming all the outer ring action!!!
made bowe-golota look like a tea party.

How bad was Dodson v Froch? My version of the fight doesn't have any crowd trouble on it.

I swear Nicky Piper is going to break into "We're walking in the air, we're flying in the moonlit sky...." one of these days.Terence wrote:I thought that Moore-Esau was a good fight. Pity those cretins at Sky opted to film, McDonagh-Facey instead. Re: bad experience at the boxing
i was there mate, it was not too bad, probably about 40 people involved, the chairs were flying but the police soon dispersed the trouble, it was not near the ring.Emerson Poncey Name Ghent wrote:How bad was Dodson v Froch? My version of the fight doesn't have any crowd trouble on it.

Re: bad experience at the boxing
Mostly had great experiences.
Remember a couple of thugs a couple of rows in front of me for the Calzaghe Manfedo fight kept jumping on their seats. Full of piss and wind. But were quite intimidating to be honest.
An old guy behind them asked them politley not to do it, because they were blocking him and his wifes view. The thugs carried on, so the old man tapped them on the shoulder and said very calmly, sit the fcuck down or I'll sit you down. The thugs went all sheepish and stayed seated for the rest of the fight. Was priceless

Re: bad experience at the boxing
After Gary Lockett got the nod over Ryan Rhodes at the massive Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, a melee involving around 20 blokes began in one of the raised stands right at the back of the Stadium. It was a pretty short melee but not that short and these blokes were not messing around. Anyway, directly above the stand where it was happening, was, of course, another stand. All the people in this other stand, who were basically in the worst seat in the house, suddenly found themselves in the best seat in the house as they leant over and watched this melee.
When it ended, they all started applauding. Man, it was SO funny to see them applauding!

T'was brutal. Still pockets of aggro going on when Benn was fighting. Remember him peering at it in disgust when in clinches.
Dawn raids still happening 6 months after the event.

Wasn't there a bit of a scrap after Mutley-Anderson back in 2006?
