Billy Corcoran

Anyone know what has happend to him. I always enjoyed watching him fight. Has he retired?

Why did he retire?? Know he wasnt setting the world alight but it seems very early

Yes, I agree - I think he would have been an interesting challenge for the likes of John Simpson.

He was one of those fighters, who was too big to fit Super Bantam, but didn't have enough pop at Super Feather. I was really impressed with his display against Roy Rutherford and I thought he would really give the likes of Mitchell and Murray a fright - but it seems like he never really recovered mentally over the Johanesson setback.

exactly right stu IMO, he reminded me of Paul Truscott a lot, great skillset and pleasing on the eye but possibly his lack of strength lets him down anywhere beyond English title type level...?

so in terms of Simpson, stu, Simpson would do exactly the same job he did on Trussy, IMO, only maybe quicker.

i saw Steve Gethin give Corcoran a cracking little test over i think it was 8 rounds. Gethin just kept coming, throwing loads of straight shots. Corcoran clearly outclassed him but didn't have the dig to discourage Gethin or get him out of there. Gethin won maybe a couple of rounds which no offence told me everything i needed to know about where Corcoran would end up levels-wise.

You could be right Stu jones, that the British title defeat was hard to deal with.

I think he could of been one these perennial British title contenders who one day cracks the case and wins the Lonsdale Belt.

Maybe, the only thing that might give Corcoran an edge was that he might have been stronger at 9 stone. Super Bantam was too much weight, 9 stone might have been Corcoran's optimum weight.

I think he had faster hands and more workrate than Truscott - although not sure about his stamina (if that makes any sense). Yes, Simpson would start as favourite - but it is a pitty Corcoran isn't in the mix still.

I heard he had some eye problems and had to retire. Apparently is into bodybuilding now.

yeah hes had some eye problems for a while now, so thats why he called it a day in the end, he still keeps himself in shape thou, has built himself up to near 12 stone now ands not fat either, he helps out training some amateur boxers now so doubtful he will be making a return any time soon, even thou he would love to.
