Hennessey Promotions
I've now started getting e-mails from them promoting their shows which is a good sign at least, hope that they start geting a bit more pro-active with some of their fighters or they risk losing a few of them!

I personally do not like "Meaty Mick" - but to call into question his promotional skills and to be so vague about it - pangs of complete stupidty in my view.
Regardless of my views as I say about Mick - he is in my view a very good promoter - so if you have something to question about Hennessy Sports why don't you spit it straight out or are you simply clutching at straws and dont actually have a f*cking clue about how the promotional side of things work???

I'm not being vague about it at all. Here it is out in the open, I don't think he does enough to promote his fighters or get them on good cards.Spud wrote:What the f*ck are you on??TheCobra wrote:I've now started getting e-mails from them promoting their shows which is a good sign at least, hope that they start geting a bit more pro-active with some of their fighters or they risk losing a few of them!

The fact that I get an e-mail the day before a fight asking me to buy tickets also seems a little last-minute?! I dunno maybe they have only just added me to the mailing list somehow and have been promoting it massively somewhere.......

Re: Hennessey Promotions
Hennessy is a good promoter - not as good as Maloney, W arren and Matchroom - but still very good and in addition on the whole all of his promotions provide good competitive match ups which incidentally are extremely well promoted - something Mick has in my view always got right!!TheCobra wrote:I'm not being vague about it at all. Do some of his fighters fight often enough?? - perhaps not - but that comes down to exactly the same problem as Fight Academy have had - TV!!! - Hennessy pulled off a master stroke in my view for his lesser known fighters by securing a TV deal with ITV - its just a shame that ITV cannot find a way of digging deep in their pockets to get the likes of Froch on their Terrestrial channel.
In addition its easy to blame the promoter - perhaps sometimes just sometimes its the fighter who can be awkward with his "wishes"
But I have to completely disagree with you concerning Hennessy's credentials as a promoter - I actually think he is very good and I know for a FACT he is extremely thorough - on show day and his requirements so the fans have a good time at the boxing.

Autobarn - it seems you and others are desperate to have a "personal" battle on here with me rather than keep to boxing which is rather sad when you think this forum has progressed from the silly little playground battles which used to go on - but please remember it is you who has asked for answers and I will now give you them.Autobarn wrote:Just one thing Spud, do we really care who you like and who you don't like? First of all this is a boxing forum and as such - Mick Hennessy is a boxing personality one for which I have worked for in the past - as with many others on this forum I passed a comment on whether I liked Mick or not - I will repeat many others have come on here and made comments about a number of boxing personalities and as such I felt I was well within my rights to make such a comment on a "Boxing" public forum.
However - due to me working for Hennessy in the past - I thought my comment on whether I liked him or not was especially relevant when you take into context that just because I do not like someone does not make him inadequate at what he does - in addition I also did not want some "sad" people making comment that just because I was complimenting Hennessy's Promotional attributes that I was angling for another job, thus another reason for me to make the point that I did not particularly like Hennessy but I thought he was indeed a very good promoter.
I will repeat - its sad you have felt the urge to make the comment you have in a pathetic attempt to get others to jump on the lets have a pop at Spud wagon - why else use the wording you have? - you and others should do yourself a favour and keep to boxing - it would indeed make visiting this place a whole lot more pleasant rather than continually visiting threads where posters have made comments directed at me rather than discussing boxing.

Re: Hennessey Promotions
I think Mick Hennessy is a top promoter, but I would have liked to have seen him sign at least one of the Olympians who have recently turned pro. W arren got three, Maloney got two and Hayemaker got one. Hennessy is someone who is very loyal to his fighters and that is the reason why many of them stay with him for most of their careers.
Re: Hennessey Promotions
Well Hennessy has done a fantastic job at getting TV deals. He was relatively inexperienced in 2002 but secured a long term deal with the BBC, when that ended - Sky jumped in, and now ITV. He's managed to convince broadcasters who seemed to be disinterested (not Sky) in boxing to either comeback into it, or continue to show the sport. Thats a fantastic attribute.
I do think though he needs to stop trying to get the fights at home, sometimes it is better to have more faith in your fighter and let them fight away.

I agree with a lot of what both of you are stating - but - with this ITV contract the worrying thing is ITVs inability to dip their hands into their pockets to put on any potentially big fights that could be made - which if Hennessy is tied down by ITV will then see his boxers going abroad rather than have home advantage - I personally think its testing times for Hennessy - another thing whilst I am here - its not just important for Carl Froch to beat Taylor - I also feel its vital for Hennessy in that having Froch there as world champion maybe a very good bargaining tool in any new negoitiations for TV contracts in the future - Yes Tyson Fury is coming through but it will be another 2 years before we know what he is really like and okay theres Darren Barker - but Froch is vital to Hennessy's cause in my view.
I have not mentioned John Murray - as I see him leaving as soon as his contract is finished.
Stu - completely disagreee with your fighting at home comment - its vital from a promotional angle that Hennessy Sports promotes rather than continually be part of an "in association with" shows.

Spud, the only "sad" and "pathetic" thing is the chip on your own shoulder. It's so big I bet ppl mistake it for a parsnip.
You take things too far laddie i.e. taking it as an attempt to get ppl to gang up on you. If your mind works that way, that's your problem.
All I'm saying is, does anyone care if you don't like FW, you don't like Maloney, that you don't like Hennessy personally?

If you do not care Autobarn and if you are correct in what you are stating - why the need to comment then - why not move onto a post more relevant.Autobarn wrote:Spud, the only "sad" and "pathetic" thing is the chip on your own shoulder. It's so big I bet ppl mistake it for a parsnip.

I will state again - see if you can keep to boxing rather than the urge to comment of stuff you have already stated you do not care about!!

Re: Hennessey Promotions
barn- for the record, i would never attempt to assess the promotional abilities of MH, FM, FW or anybody else without first checking what spud's opinion of them is
Re: Hennessey Promotions
Yes, in places - but I cannot help but think Harris vs Witter, Witter vs Corley would have made US TV had Hennesy not fought for the purse bids - and that would have furthered Witters marketability no end (well especially the Harris fight as it was quite good - obviously the Corley fight would have hindered it).Spud wrote:Stu & Scrap

At the end, Witter was still a "nobody" in terms of Marketability, fighting on ITV4, just with a green belt.
Plus it would save him some cash.
Froch vs Taylor needed to be on prime time US TV - an impressive win for Froch could get him in the Pavlik, Hopkins, etc money leagues.

Re: Hennessey Promotions
See your point entirely now about Froch - and yes I know others have made it too - Froch and the marketability angle needed to fight in the states - see that point entirely. I just think that whilst there is so much uncertainty with ITV and Hennessy with the TV side of things it was important from the promotion side of things for Hennessy Sports to have a massive show on a terrestrial channel - it would have done wonders for Froch from an armchair fans point of view in this country and it would have announced Hennessys arrival onto the big stage in world terms.stujones wrote:Yes, in places - but I cannot help but think Harris vs Witter, Witter vs Corley would have made US TV had Hennesy not fought for the purse bids - and that would have furthered Witters marketability no end (well especially the Harris fight as it was quite good - obviously the Corley fight would have hindered it).Spud wrote:Stu & Scrap

I am serious Stu - at this moment in time unless Hennessy gets Setanta or Sky on board for Froch - it could be a long time before he fights in the UK again - some may say that wont matter as long as he is winning - but it simply wont do Hennessy any favours if that were to happen.
Re: Hennessey Promotions
stop ganging up on spud, he is funny!!!
Re: Hennessey Promotions
spud offers his opinion, thats fair enough, dont slate him for that,
Re: Hennessey Promotions
Yeah but one fight against who and for what belt?
If Froch beats Taylor, let's see what Mick does with him.
It is bad that it's taken Froch this long to catch on. But I feel past sloppy performances, arrogance (he did it with a lot less charisma earlier in his career) and of course injury to himself/to opponents, has made things move slowly.

Disagree, Calzaghe a star after Eubank. Enzo Mac ever a star? Alex Arthur? Johnny Nelson?Ant Evans wrote:In my professional opinion, Mick can't promote on big stage. Carl Froch should be a star, and he is not. That, my friends, is an epic FAIL!
Warren would turn Froch into a star with one fight, and you guys know it.
Amir Khan was a star before Warren and Ricky Hatton was the exception.
Re: Hennessey Promotions
Maybe Evans means with Froch's undoubted abilities, with his desire to go after it, his good fan base in Nottingham - that someone with more clout would be able to do more with him.
Definitely Stu, Calzaghe wasn't any kind of star until 8 years into being a world champ, Khan a massive name even before turning pro - the FW Olympians will have a hard time getting the kind of profile Khan has.
