Boxers who flat out hated each other
One match-up that quickly comes to mind for me is DLH-Vargas.
I'm sure there are others...

Erik Morales-Marco Antonio Barrera
Pure hatred for eachother. I don't think their hate towards one another was for show at all, kind of like Ali-Frazier. These two definately won't be hanging out anytime soon.

Yeah. That's the kind of hate I was aiming for not like PBF who does it to sell tickets and acts like the guys best friend after the fight.AndreWardFan2006 wrote:Erik Morales-Marco Antonio Barrera

Zale & Graziano immediately jumped to my mind. A pretty heated pair, they made.

Mayorga and Forrest. Mayorga's a showman, but Forrest he's always truly seemed to distain, and vice versa.
Guzman and Barrios made for such an exciting fight because they didn't like each other.
Edwin Valero seems to bring out hate in his fellow Latin fighters for his ties to Hugo Chavez. Casamayor and Barrios already want a piece of him.
Chavez and De La Hoya never seemed to like each other. DLH respected Chavez but he loved beating his face off.
Barrera is a pretty testy guy, he's never seemed to like anyone he fights. Aside from Morales, McKinney, Hamed, Pacquiao, and even Marquez all enraged him. He sounds like he wants to decapitate Khan.
Leonard and Hagler have always had some issues. Leonard really led Hagler astray for a long time before he finally flashed his way to victory.
Michael Moorer and George Foreman had some bad blood.
Bowe and Holyfield pretty much brawled like crazy due to their rivalry, often after the bell.
Rahman and Lewis...

rather see it for hype than for someone to flat out hate someone, don't you think ?dajuggernaut wrote:Yeah. That's the kind of hate I was aiming for not like PBF who does it to sell tickets and acts like the guys best friend after the fight.AndreWardFan2006 wrote:Erik Morales-Marco Antonio Barrera

I think it was more for show on Ali's part. But by all accounts, Frazier was truely hurt by it all, and I'd bet he still resents him to this day.AndreWardFan2006 wrote:Erik Morales-Marco Antonio Barrera

that depends. I'd rather someone be honest than run their mouth of to manipulate people.

I think I heard in a interview with Erik Morales about Marco Antonio Barrera, "Why do I have to keep talking about that faggot?" that was after the trilogy

Giardello and Fullmer seem to really dislike each other. They had a really rough fight and they both had bad things to say about each other.

I believe they recently made amends at some function. There was a photo of them smiling and shaking hands. Not that it means anything.generic screen name wrote:I think I heard in a interview with Erik Morales about Marco Antonio Barrera, "Why do I have to keep talking about that faggot?" that was after the trilogy

This is a good call.Ambling Alp wrote:Giardello and Fullmer seem to really dislike each other. They had a really rough fight and they both had bad things to say about each other.
They didnt get on well at all.Basilio wasnt crazy about Robinson either.Sugar Ray snubbed him once.
Hatred with fighters really isnt all that common.
Often because there is a mutual respect between guys who will climb the stairs to lay it on the line.
You may not like a guy , but there is some respect and as a result some of the "hatred" is softened.
Not saying it doesnt happen, but its not as common as some might think.
Re: Boxers who flat out hated each other
..i'm not sure of how many hated each other...sometimes it may be just one fighter who hated the other one
Emile Griffith hated Benny Paret - with tragic results.
The implacable Joe Louis hated Tony Galento because tony kept calling louis at training camp , insulting his wife. (Tony thought the only chance he had against louis was to get him off his good boxing game and into a brawl.)
rocky graziano hated tony zale so much after their first fight he was obsessed with him. Zale, a stolid pro, just thought of rocky as a tough opponent
Marvin Hagler said he hated every man he fought.
sandy saddler and willie pep were an odd couple. they hated each other but each guy also had great respect for the other one's talent.

Basilio hated Robinson, atleast in part because they never fought a third time. Giardello hated Robinson as well, thought he should have got a title shot against Robinson. Fullmer didn't like him; not sure why.Expug wrote:This is a good call.Ambling Alp wrote:Giardello and Fullmer seem to really dislike each other. Robinson didn't seem to hate them back though.
(Pender didn't think Robinson was as good as other people did, though I'm not sure if he actually hated him.)
Part of the reason that some didn't Robinson was seen by some as the "pretty boy." They also all wanted fights with him (because they could get more money fighting Robinson than anyone else).
Of course he couldn't fight everyone multiple times so he was going to irk those that he didn't fight more.

He also raped them at the negotiating table. It's why a hypothetical Robinson-Leonard bout shouldn't even be discussed --- they'd never have gotten around to nutting out a contract

Duran hated Leonard with a passion
Also did Frazier and Ali until this day, they don't like each other.

Re: Boxers who flat out hated each other
Cool thread
Mark Kaylor and Errol Christie really despised each other.
Nigel Ben hated Eubank, I don’t think Chris hated Nigel.
Paret and Griffith, I think this stemmed from Paret calling Emile gay.
Vinny Paz and Greg Haugen really, really hated one another.
Paz also hated Rosenblatt, Roger Mayweather & probably virtually everyone he fought.
“Boom Boom” Mancini wasn’t keen on Camancho.
I read Freddy Roach didn’t like Greg Haugen.
Herbie Hide and Mike Bent had a brawl in the street, so did Tyson and Green.
On a related note - Bruce Curry (who was a bit mental) got into a street fight with his trainer the day after he lost his world title and then tried to shot him.
Frazier hated Ali.
Even now Basilio hates Robinson, he said that Robinson was a bastard when he was alive and he’s still a bastard now he’s dead.

Re: Boxers who flat out hated each other
I thought Riddick and Evander actually liked each other. In fact, I remember reading a piece is "Boxing Illustrated" about how the two of them would actually go to each other's children's birthday parties. This was before their final match.Diamond WEAPON wrote: Bowe and Holyfield pretty much brawled like crazy due to their rivalry, often after the bell.
It seemed to me that they simply saw each other as kind of like co-workers who made money with each other and hung out when not at work. Heck, they even had their kids hang out with each other.

Hatton - witter seems to be leaning to hatred on both sides mainly from witter though

There wasn't even dislike there, much less hate. However, Weapon is right that they repeatedly fought after the bell throughout their trilogy, most severely in the second bout. Things did get heated, from time-to-time. It's a poor choice on Weapon's part for the thread, though.

judging from the dirtiness of their fights, pep and saddler werent fond of one another

Re: Boxers who flat out hated each other
Riddick Bowe and Jorge Luis Gonzalez.
Gonzalez was not well liked even by his fellow Cuban exiles. We found his vulgar language and gestures, bragging and bully attitude very annoying.
His fight with Bowe might have been a lazy affair had it not been because the less than diplomatic Gonzalez -at a press conference- said to Bowe's pregnant wife something like -I'll kill your husband before your baby is born.
The wife took it hard and Riddick went really ballistic, As a result, the sometimes non agressive Bowe beat the living crap out of Gonzalez.

- A myth. They were very good friends coming up through the ranks together as well as spar mates. That was strictly Gorgeous George stuff by Ali.JR Ewing wrote:ali took offense at ernie terrell calling him "clay"
Ali tried to do the same with Wepner, but Wepner refused to call him the N word that only the elitely hued folk are allowed to use in polite company these days. Chuckles also refused to brawl at the press conferences, preferring to laugh and joke which was what the whole act by Ali really was.
