Michael Moorer the trainer
Michael Moorer the trainer
Great to see 'Double M' given a chance by Roach as his assistant trainer. Never would have seen it though, he always seemed far too insular to excel at analysing and advising others. Thoughts?
Re: Michael Moorer the trainer
I would never have thought Floyd Sr. would be a good trainer either but I don't think you have to be intelligent or articulated in the sense of having a high IQ, You just have to have a smart "boxing mind". Its like these freestyle rappers who can come up with rhymes in seconds, but cant put a coherent sentence together when they speak normally. Moore certainly wasn't the most talented HW but he knew his way around the ring and I think he could have a lot of knowledge to share.
Re: Michael Moorer the trainer
There are actually some similarities between Moorer and Khan. Both very athletic and a little fragile. Moorer was once Mr Excitement wasn't he? I think after the Bert Cooper fight he became much more cautious.

He does come across as a bit fragile and a man with lots of issues. But to be be fair Atlas also said if you can get him in the right frame of mind then he's unstoppable.BIGMARK wrote:i've never met the guy so find it hard to judge him and based my opinion on the Atlas book, media image and my gut feeling. Of course if Frddie Roach has given him a chance he must have something or he wouldnt be in the position he is.ERIC GUY wrote:have you guys ever chatted with michael?
Moorer was actually an excellent boxer, and could have gone much further if he had the right mental attitude. He had bags of natural talent.
Wasn't he until recently JD Chapmans trainer?

Cue joke about someone having to slap Moorer in order to inspire him to hold the pads...

Judging by his condition, it looks like Double M is shelving his comeback.

Always came across as a bit of a nutjob to be honest, bashed a couple of cops up too - though I think that was down to a booze problem. Doesn't mean he wont make a great trainer though, he probably finds it a new lease of life - bit like Eamon Magee maybe.
Always liked Moorer though, i saw his debut. He was in some back from the brink wars before he hit HW.
