I heard that Joe beat Chris Byrd in the amateurs? Is there any truth in this?

I know Michael Smyth beat him back in the day
Ottke lost to Samil Sam and Thomas Ullrich . Ramon Garbey stopped him too
but he beat Juan Carlos Gomez, Zsolt Erdei and Mario Veit

it was a interview ages ago, funny how they say who beat who in amatures, but never give the date and name of the event.

I think he actaully KOed Michalczewski one of the times. The showed the KO on german tv before one of Michalczewski's fights. Ottke beat former EBU crusier weight champion Torsten May in the amateurs. He also beat amateur great Alexander Lebziak. He lost all his fights vs Ariel Hernandez

Lebziak beat Ottke in a return i believe!!! Lebziak was one of only 5 guys to beat Erik Teymour as an amateur..... Makarenko was another

Correct. Ottke beat Lebziak in the european championhips in 91 but lost to him at the world championships in 91.

You can't really compare amateur match-ups to pro fights though can you? I mean, Henry Tillman beat Mike Tyson in the amateurs.

sometimes yes sometimes no.
its certainly interesting to know who has fought who in the past though
