michael sprott is fighting Lamon brewster on abraham card

Post by jspain »

michael sprott is now fighting leman brewster on the abraham undercard on march 14th. appearently brewster has been signed up by sauderland promotions. guess we will be seeing more of brewster on setanta. at least its a decent fight along with the abraham one on that card.

edit the italian that sprott was meant to be fighting pulled out injured.

Apparently Brewster looked a bit worn around the edges in his last performance, so maybe he's on the slide, always had a good punch though which may get him the win.

If Michael is on form he could really cause a problem here, but its hard to know which Sprott will turn up to the fight until the 1st bell goes.

Brewster may get outboxed for a bit by Sprott but Id be suprised if Sprott can avoid brewster's sledge hammer shots for the entire fight. Brewster was being outboxed for a long period against Luan Krasniqi but just kept on going and in the end absolutely smashed Krasniqi to bits.

Sprott's never done well against big punchers either so while Id like him to win, Ill be suprised if he pulls it off, even if Brewster has slid a little of late.

Sprott has that tendancy to "freeze" in fights, i much the same way that Danny Williams does, but this is a fight that Sprott could win, if his mind is right on the night. Brewster maybe a "name" of sorts, but he is'nt the same fighter who beat Klitschko five years ago, that's for sure, so it could be a good night for Sprott

I love Sprott but he'll probably have his mental block about winning against a name like Lamon Brewster.

He'll do well early then fade mid way when Brewster starts to make a scrap of it.

you would think he would of learnt by now and wont freeze because this a chance to get in the mix all be it against a past his best fighter. Sprott should be looking at fighting the likes of Arroela or Chambers
Regardless of how shot Brewster is, he still carries his name and reputation, so Sprott beating him would be a good career move. It could be a make or break fight for Sprott and these are the fights to get noticed in and that is'nt the case with fighters like Pianeta, where a win would'nt cause many waves.

He also carries fifteen stone of excess weight and a serious lack of desire.
Who ? Sprott or Brewster

I think this is very winnable for Sprotty as long as he doesn't turn up with the opponent mentality. As long as he doesn't catch a big left hook he can do it with movement & workrate.
Brewster has only fought once a year since '05 and looked has looked awful since the Klitschko rematch but he's still the last fighter to beat Wlad and that makes him a good enough name for the record even now.

Reading stylist Michael Sprott takes on former WBO heavyweight champion Lamon Brewster in something of a surprise eight-rounder in Germany on March 14 (what a big night for boxing that is!).
Brewster, of Indianapolis in the United States, now fights under the giant Wilfried Sauerland umbrella in Germany (apparently), hence the sudden match with Sprott, a regular on Sauerland promotions against the likes of Taras Bidenko, Paolo Vidoz, Cengiz Koc, Rene Dettweiler, Vladimir Virchis, Ruslan Chagaev, the latter of whom stopped him in eight rounds in 2006... At his best nice guy Michael can really look the part: he outscored the previously unbeaten duo of Koc and Dettweiler (39-0 between them) over there. Over here he pipped Danny Williams six months before Williams thumped Mike Tyson in the States (that was funny), and flattened Audley Harrison in three (that was funnier).
At his worst... The 34-year-old Sprott blew a chance to build on his big Harrison triumph at Wembley in February 2007, for example, when he sleepwalked to defeat against Matt Skelton a fight later, which neatly sums up Sprott's entire hot-and-cold career. Either way, this fight will prove a nice little earner for the removals man (he might even get he chance to 'do' two foreigners) but the fight's outcome, or certainly its competitive spirit, depends on which Michael Sprott shows his beaming face, obviously.
The American, in contrast, is much more consistent and won his WBO in a huge upset against Wladimir Klitschko in Las Vegas in 2004 and made three exciting defences, including a thrilling nine-round stoppage of an incredibly brave Luan Krasniqi in Germany in 2005, before Belarussian "White Wolf" Serguei Lyakhovich shocked him on a unanimous decision in the States in 2006. The stocky, in-your-face Brewster dropped Lyakhovich in that one but suffered eye problems, and later took a bad beating at the hands of Wladimir Klitschko in a rematch in Germany in 2007. He has fought only once since, stopping New York clubfighter Danny Batchelder in five rounds in the States last August. He did not look particularly "Relentless" (his nickname) and at 35, after all those wars, the usually rugged and powerful Brewster might just be there for the taking, although his greater level of experience and consistency give him a big edge.

I think it's hard to give Sprott much so far to be honest, especially after suffering a knockdown as well.

Sprott needs to go for it a bit more, he is letting Brewster dictate the pace and outjab him. Surely he's a good few points down?
