Khan v Barrera Post Fight Discussion spoiler merged

Post by jeej »

That was a bit frustrating cos the clash of heads was extremely unfortunate.

Things I can take from the fight;

Barrera was too slow and too old to compete - although that cut was awful.

Khan looked very fast and very slick, but we need to see him against another slick and/or powerful boxer.

Well done Khan though.

Head Clash beats Marco Antonio Barrera in 5th round.

Good work by Khan but the head clash spoiled it. we didnt learn anythn new about Khan except the gloves r up a bit. Still no chin, still no out and out power and still no chance against the champs of this weight

Good result BUT we all know Barrera is not a big hitting lightweight.

MAB was absolutely shot, but Khan did what he needed to do and made no mistakes. It just shows that he is a highly talented fighter with a shitty chin, MAB never landed anything to test it.

*SPOILER* Here we bloody go

Despite Barerra fighting well above his best weight, being recently unretired, 35 years old and 2-2 in his last 4 (now 2-3 in 5) - apparently this win for Amir removes the bad taste from the Prescott loss.

They talk about it as a masterclass but, if this was even two years ago, the result could have been completely different. They're even daring to put Khan in the same breath as JMM, Morales, Junior Jones and Pacquaio...

I'm still unconvinced, I'm still sick of the cynical attitude and, until Amir fights another world-class fighter in his prime and wins, convincingly, I will remain so.

That fight left me a taste of unachievement...Khan did look much faster and bigger than Barrera, but he never had Barrera really wobbly at any time, without the cut it would have been a different story.
I doubt Khan would have kept that pace for an entire 12 rounds.

Only one way to prove the Sky hyperbole...

Khan-Prescott 2.

If he's changed so much, why do I still think Prescott will spark Khan again?

I think it harsh to judge Khan badly from that fight. Sure we also cant say "oh wow he is amazing", but he looked slick, disciplined, composed, just generally sharp and mature. But lets see he him against another big name, one in their own prime.

That is a big IF. Sure the cut was unfortunate and had a lot to do with how the fight went, but I don't think you can say it WOULD have been a different story, perhaps COULD.

why? it was stopped after round four, and was an accidental clash of heads
Exactly, that's just the rules.

We can't say anything about Khan after that. He's fought another man who's naturally smaller - it's the same old bullshit. If he gets a title shot with JMM or Juan Diaz (if Marquez vacates) then he will lose, clearly.

Khan could have kept that pace. Barrera landed on Khan once and Khan stumbled a little. I see Khan being knocked out again if a good punch lands.

Got to say that Khan looked above Barrera, but when the ending came Barrera was just starting to land

I think it would be too soon to chuck him in with those guys, but I definitely want to see him against another dangerous top 10 opponent.

So for 4 rds vs a bleeding (from a head clash) slow Barrera. Khan looked brilliant. That tells us all we need to know.

OK.

Marquez fight took everything out of Barrera, he barely even tried to win the Pac rematch, and he had a couple of bloated sparring sessions.

He played right into Warren's hands taking that fight. This morning I thought it's another Kindelan 3 fight. The pro version of it. FW the recycler.

If it's going to be £15 a pop, bring in a real effing lightweight.

Yeah cos Marco knew the cut was cutting his time short, so had to go for the KO.

Just so Sky could harp on about Khan's "masterclass" and how he is going to be a world champ. No fornicating way.
