Has he really improved

Post by coneye »

Firstly i picked Barrera , but like a lot i got it wrong , I never relized just how shop worn he was, It was definetly dodgy the way they allowed it to go on till the 5'th AFTER ALL IT NEVER GOT ANY WORSE. But has Khan improved , ok he looked like he had but , he was never under any pressure fighting a overweight , past it old man with one eye ,

Personally i don't think e has, he did'nt use angles, considering the size difference and the fact Barrerra could'nt see the punches coming, he should off stopped him, after all he was a punchbag for 5 rnds. , and most off all, its ok too shout he's brough t his hands back ,he's brought his hands back , and get carried away because he has just learnt ,to do the VERY FIRST THING ANYONE IS TAUGHT. but did anyone else notice something else he does and still done it tonight , he drops his right hand when he jabs ,Once again just basic skills he gets wrong.

And that is why he gets caught ,and he still will get caught every time he fights someone his own size.. Khan too be babied and babied and babied .

I would like too see him in with Kasidas he will beat Kasidas but at least he'll get tested. , another fighter i reckon would tear Khan a new arse is young Aussie prospect Lenny Savasomething or other , he just demolished St Clair in easy fashion .

For me tonight proved nothing except that a legend is now finished and Khan could'nt stop a old guy with one eye

He had all the advantages .. and for me, didn`t prove nothing in way of improvement.

Yes Khan has improved in my opinion - massively.

However at world class level there is always going to be a time when you get tapped on the chin - when that happens what will Khan do?

I have to say though - Khan will always be exciting to watch - you will have one half which will be his supporters - shouting and cheering his every punch - you will then have the cynics which I am firmly part of waiting until someone pops him on the whiskers!!!

The usual excuse for not giving credit 'I thought he'd got ko'd and the only reason he didn't was because the fighter I picked was shot'. How about Khan made Barrera look bad? How about Barrera never did well against faster boxers in his prime?

Yes Khan was improved, tight guard, better movement, better range control and picked his punches far better. As for the 'he should have put him away', why would he when he was winning every second of every round without getting hit?

A good win for Khan - reinforcing the things we know he does well; he moved extensively, flashed out very quick shots but it all still looks a little forced/un-natural compared to the more relaxed and intuitive syles you see amongst the world's elite fighters.

Khan is huge for the weight, has great natural speed and some good power when he sits down on the shots but I can't help feeling that a top level operator (such as the naturally smaller JMM who has successfully moved up) would find the timing to counter in between Khan's straight flurries and would once again find the youngster's dodgy whiskers.

Good luck to Amir, he is certainly determined to improve and address his short falls but I for one am not convinced the hands up, flurry, move strategy will cut it against the best 9st 9/10st fighters in the world.

Its a valid excuse in my opinion. should have been a no contest anyway.

But yes I do think Kahn fought well and looked improved

If MAB was so shot why was he making Pacman look foolish 18months ago? Pacman couldnt land the flush shots Khan was all night. Why was he arguably beating LW King Marquez and getting robbed 24months ago? Sure he was past prime and smaller, but these sort of opponents are good enough for Ricky Hatton and Calzaghe

And Under boxing rules it wouldn't be a no contest, pity about the cut none the less, I wanted a good 12rounds for my money

Under the rules of boxing, if a fight is stopped before four rounds of boxing the fight should be a no contest. That fight should have been stopped after two.

Yes 18 months is a long time mate, see Oscar Vs Floyd, Oscar Vs Pac for more evidence.

Kahn though looked very good.

you people are kidding yourselfs on - amir khan is a very talented 22 year old prospect cant think of too many fighters as quick handed as khan even on the world stage agree the chin will stop him being in the elite. Think he's our best natural talent since Nazeem but obviously with vulneribilities. Stick khan in with anybody over 30 and he will give them problems people are forgetting how young he still is. Cant believe how much critism he has had if he was american they would be raving about him.

Lets be honest after tonight dont think any of the brits at his weight would give him too many problems thought murray would give him a fight but after seing a few of his recent fights not in the same league talent wise. Khan is our best British prospect at any weight right now so maybe we need to eat a little humble pie and give credit where its due.

Limond, Earl, St Clair, Gomez, Fagan and Barrera is not a bad record for a 22 year old prospect.

Tonight cut or no cut same result too quick also too big, realize this is a poor version of barrera but he beat him at everything tonight think barrera hit him cleanly twice the whole fight. Name me a better young prospect in Britain right now

MAB asked to continue in that round though and the cut wasn't blocking vision too severely because it was on the top of his head, why the hell didn't MABs corner have any gauze to try and stop the cut? In the 50s he would have fought the full 12 with that cut. The rules on cuts depend on the authority, honestly I wish the cut never happened, I don't think it would have made that much difference anyway, just no mid rounds stoppage

Delahoya was more done against Pacman because he was dead at 147 not necessarily because he was shot. I'm not sure he matches up well with Pacman anyway

Firstly it doesn't matter if he asked to continue, that cut was horrific. and secondly if you didn't see him blinking and rubbing blood from his eyes all the time. Then you are just a Kahn fanboy who cannot judge a fair fight.

Good bye

The British commentators were completely over the top with Khan's performance!

The bottom line is the 1st round was starting to unfold and there was a Clash of Heads which Barrera took the full impact from it but also left him with a nasty cut and blood dripping down into one of his eyes which basically left him a One eyed Fighter against one of the quickest Boxer's around. The Fight should have been declared a NO CONTEST after the 2nd or 3rd round as Barrera was at a Massive disadvantage due to the cut and it was only his bravery that made him continue.

I knew Khan would win the early rounds due to his speed but had there been no cut, i'm pretty sure once he started to slow down in the later rounds, Barrera would have been more effective and as was seen by the big shot he landed on Khan in the 5th, he may have actually knocked Khan out any time after round 8.

I honestly dont think we can give Khan any Credit for winning this Fight due to the difference the Cut made to Barrera and the fact that he couldn't stick to his gameplan.

I agree it should have been a no contest as all the experts will also agree with, fightnews have already mentioned it.

I do think though Kahn did look a better fighter, but like you I said Kahn would be to quick for Barrera for four rounds and it would get interesting in the middle rounds.

How can you not give Khan any credit? What sort of negative creep are you? He did everything he had to do, boxed a controlled fight, picked his punches and had already rocked Barrera before the cut happened. Some of the people on this board just hate everyone, like that clown who said "couldn't even stop a one-eyed fighter". It was round five FFS!! So a boxer is crap unless he wins inside five rounds. Idiot.

"He may have knocked Khan out after round 8". Well the roof might have fallen in. From what we saw, Barrera had no match for Khan's speed, so that seems a pretty unlikely event.

You are such a dumb hating twat you don't know the difference between opinion and fact and you can't even spell realised.

"Gobble and suck his arse" What a really pleasant peson you must be. I am always very wary of people who use homosexual imagery as forms of abuse.

Barrera was throwing and landing, while Khan boxed well to instructions.
One moment you say he was shot, then you say he only was getting hit because of the cut. Get your story straight.

Barrera was throwing and landing NOTHING , Khan was too big and too quick , for this edition off Barrera, I know i got it wrong thought Barrera would off done better but he just did'nt seem too have it any more . With the size difference and the amount that Barrera seems to off dropped Khan will probably beat him up again if they were too do it . But the cut definetly impaired Barrera and proved that when Khan could and did pot shot a guy who could'nt see them HE COULD'NT STOP HIM.,

aND REGARDING YOU, YOU FACKING PILLOCK YOU COME ON HERE CALLING PEOPLE IDIOTS ECT, and then come back with,,, What a really pleasant person you must be when you get it back . Oh the idignation, you pompous twat ,
Can see why your such a Khan nuthugger , he likes too give it but can't take it has well.

Just can't wait for the day they put him in with someone his own size who is'nt past it , Oh forgot they already did and things fell apart , won't happen again though.

Last night was a good performance by Khan and he has improved under Freddie Roach BUT don't get carried away because this victory doesn't mean that much other than having a great fighter on his slate, Barrera was 35 years old, out of his best weight class and fighting a younger larger opponent, had seen better days and before the Khan fight had fought against 2 fighters with a combined record of 26-26-1 after a year of inactivity.

So until Khan fights a live lightweight threat like Prescott again we don't know how good he is do we?

I don't think we can actually say that Barrera is past it - after all, the fight proper didn't last a round. Khan looked decent for that round, no more. So what we've learned is that he is getting there slowly but will always have question marks against his chin. No more, no less.

So, by your logic, Muhammad Ali couldn't finish off an old, one-eyed Henry Cooper twice, because he had to be bailed out by a cut. He must have been crap

Khan is 22 and was having his 21st fight, took on a guy like Barrera two fights after getting flattened and you can't give him any credit for a performance where he looked fast, disciplined, accurate, positive. And straight after the fight you come on here and just slag him off. What was there to slag him off about, he didn't do anything wrong? Then someone has a go at you and you start with the "nuthugging" and "arse sucking" remarks. Call me an idiot if you like, but why the unpleasant gay stuff?

And as for your great Aussie hope, "demolished"?? He couldn't stop St Clair even though St Clair was best as a featherweight and he is a light-welterweight (got exactly same result against St Clair as Khan, only St Clair only fought him at a heavier weight, had had more fights than Khan and St Clair had lost 2 of 4 since he lost to Khan). And he got taken to the cleaners by Frankie Gavin at the Commonwealth Games.

You are way more one-eyed than Barrera was.

Just how muhc credit do you want to give him for teeing off on a much smaller man who was already finished at world level?

4 impressive rds vs someone who could not see - it can only tell us so much.

Khan's balance has definitely improved and so has his punch delivery. Can he do that over a longer distance? He looks the part. But how much can you ever know when he's taken the shifty Warren route?

It's a route that avoids vital questions, just a way of keeping him on PPV.
