Re: Enzo Calzaghe. . . . EXPOSED!!!

Post by Carbo »

What a wetawded potht by thomeone who we would pwobably find thpeaks like thith if we could heaw him.

Maccarinelli, Pryce ad Reece were hardly boxing gold -- pieces of what Michelangelo would have called perfect statues waiting to be discovered by the sculptor inside the block of marble.

No. Both Pryce and Maccarinelli showed considerable improvement under Calzaghe's tutelage. Looking at Maccarinelli early in his career, he was so stiff and so technically poor, that there was no way I thought he would escape from British class, but he improved enough to make it to world title level. Not insignificant.

I believe Maccarinelli's loss has more to do with dissatisfaction with the sport. You could hear the way he was talking prefight that he wasn't concentrating, or certainly hasn't been -- and for a man of limited talent, that's fatal.

It's insane to call Calzaghe a poor trainer. He trained arguably the best British boxer ever. Joe don't pop out of his mother's womb popping right jabs, and he could have had all the talent in the world, but you don't fight twelve rounds with Jeff Lacy the way he did without someone teaching you a thing or two.

A typical example, this thread is -- or at least the peanut head that started it -- of the short term, knee-jerk, stunted intellect of the bovine masses, I'm afriad.

Does that sound condecending and arrogant?

Well, I can assure you it's just a case of juxtaposition.

I think Enzo has a lot of thinking to do, it's disappointing cos things havent gone in an ideal way time wise, in terms of not keeping busy and taking ages coming back from haye defeat. But alas it is his poor chin which will always hold him back, Haye smashed him to bits in 2 rounds and I could see others at world level in the cruiser division doingthe same.

So now he could either bully the brits scene and europe for a few years or retire maybe?

Just back from the show- From where I was sitting Enzo looked to be dominating, but couldn't put that guy away AT ALL. Olfalobi was a good sport, too, showboating and the like.

warren should try and get a rematch.

How?

It was for the iterim title - next stop the FULL Champion!

:D
was it for the interim title. :-?

i lose touch of these bloody things nowadays.

with banks pulling out i thought it was for the full title.

they should look to rematch him a couple of fights down the line anyway.

if enzo continues that is.

if he carries on fighting that is. :o

Ya the situation is messed up. Ramirez won the WBO interim title against Aleexev , Ola just won the WBO interim title against Mac, now Ramirez is fighting next month for the full title.

How did you all score this, by the way? I had Enzo certainly winning when he was stopped.

I only started watching halfway through the fight, but I had Enzo winning rounds 5,6,7,8, before being stopped in the ninth. The fight was competitive throughout, but I thought Enzo did a little more each round.

What a load of crap. Anyone who brought Gavin Rees to a world title is clearly a genius. He's small, not that good, fighting way above his weight class and he has no discipline. Well done Enzo. Maybe, just maybe, Pryce, Rees and Maccarinelli achieved far more than their skills should have allowed.

Just seen the stoppage now on the recording, Enzo doesn't seem to object- he is stubmling and puffing out a too.

Three pretty decisive knockouts in his career now, he surely must be looking at packing it in?

He had the potential to be a world class fighter, and someone who could give Haye real trouble. But instead he feasted on easy opposition and enjoyed handy fights and handy training in his backyard. Why not go to the US like Afolabi? Spar with the Toneys, Klitschkos, etc. Imagine how good he would have been if he was developed over there or took the INITIATIVE to move over there and work his way up, rather than take the WBU crap that he was happy to have.

I don't feel sorry for the guy one bit and I actually enjoyed seeing him sprawled on the canvas. He looks like hes attempting the riverdance when he gets hit. His attitude after the fight told it all, "I underestimated him". He's so used to Warren feeding him his bums that he expected more of the same.

Well, his career is over at this point. He needs a change of trainer badly. If he packed up and went to the US and worked his ass off he might be able to get somewhere but he doesn't have it in him to do that. He's too used to pampering and his ego wouldn't allow it I'd say.

It's always great to see someone like that getting KTFO.

I think if we're learning anything, it's that this bloody British world title, WBO route only lets the fighter down in the end. He ends up thinking he's top drawer, and gets a brutal lesson.

So Enzo underestimated the bloke who stopped him? Now hold on, I thought he was an live opponent, one of the few live opponents for Macca.

That said, the inactivity couldn't have helped Mac.

Mac looks the part, good technically, hits bloody hard, but he lacks quality hard rounds in the real fights and I think this lets him down.

Seen clips of big macs training bit too much strength based punch timing looked a bit off tonight think he was working with a strength trainer could this have cost him. Feel a bit sorry for the big man looked in the best shape pyhsically but again felt his punch timing was off

Ramirez fought for the interim title but they upgraded it to the FULL title when Banks went after Adamek I think?

Either way, last night was for the interim title!

SHOCK! Not!

His opponent sparred a lot with James Toney

If someone could get Toney over here I think he would beat Enzo Haye Harrison and whoover else he could fight.
He has a JT look about him, South London/Battersea Boys Club apparently!

As soon as I heard that I knew he would kick some ass!

:D
Yeah he boxed for Caius, they used to be in the basement below Battersea Town Hall. Brings back a lot of memories of sparring there years ago with the likes of Paul Hersey.

Good luck to Ola, he fought well, nice to see a Londoner pulling off a big win. He looks quite a capable fighter.

Bloody well put. Some of these fighters are deluded if they think they are real world champions.

If a young fighter wants to learn the trade go over to America and get loads of sparring with the likes of Toney, instead of sitting in backland gyms thinking they are kings of one horse towns.

I think the problem with Enzo, and other fighters too, is that they are fed on a poor standard of opposition and moved towards "world class", associated with "world class" and linked with world belts so much that we actually start to believe they are of that level. Enzo bypassed European and inherited a WBO strap which he defended against Hobson in a British belt level affair.

When he fought Afolabi he must have expected his power and workrate to tell but Ola wasn't dropping like a Heinichen or an Azzouai. Enzo is a European level fighter, no disrespect to him that's a good level but not a world class fighter; when he stepped up to world level before against Haye he was demolished. I can't believe he was being mentioned in the same breath as Adamek before this fight :oo

Gavin Rees fought a very inconsistent champion to win the belt.... Look what happend to Mbaye against Barrie Jones (Jones won that fight clearly).

anyway "He's small, not that good, fighting way above his weight class and he has no discipline.".... is this part of the coaches role, to get the discipline, to advice on weight, to improve skills?

I think Maccarinelli's "acheivements" are more to do with Warrens very good marketing and management of him, rather than anything a coach would have done

yeah to right. i mean i like enzo as a fighter but hes lost again. i mean he did say he wants to move UFC though. ? warren was not happy about his comments also Joe calzghe has said to enzo to leave warren. i mean warren is a promotor he dont care weather his figther wins or looses as long as he gets a hugh pay check he dont care. whats next for enzo ?. i fought he would win this fight as he put down his oppnant in round one. but clearly he threw so many punches that his energy just ran out on him in later rounds of the fight. i reakon he need to change trainers and go to wild card gym to get proper sparring there.
