a round one NC would not have gone down well with the crowd or the audience who paid for the PPV.

Khan looked good in the short time, I think a lot of us knew Barrera wouldn't be able to do too much at his age and weight. You bring a slowed down guy in for a speedy guy, get the guy in the right time and all appears well.

The thing is, will Khan just live off a handful of rds vs Barrera? Will he get ranked and sit on a ranking? Do we have to pay £15 to watch some Interim fight vs a no hoper? Or will he fight a legit contender, and prove he really is the real deal?

Khan won't have to worry about fighting Marquez. The Mexican legend has done it all and wants to cash in with a super fight if he can get one. No way is he stopping down at 135 and defending titles.

Khan v Juan Diaz would be a big fight, potentially.

Yes, we noticed that.

And I'm sure you'll RUSH back here, when Amir does get sparked again, to say SEE I TOLD YOU ALL.
Never mind, he's got the fatal flaw, but it's going to be a lot of fun watching him do his best to confound the experts a few more times.

Would you really like to see him in with a Marquez? I think he needs a couple more fights before going for a world title. he's 22 and 6 months off getting knocked out, he needs more time with Roach. I didn't hear Khan saying he was the best in the world last night, it is only the anti-Khan brigade who are desperate to see him get knocked out.
Khan should do what is right for Khan's career, not something for a ridiculous piece of machismo.

Yes I totally agree that he brings some excitement and he is fun to watch, but I just don't like to head people saying Khan has improved or Khan would have won anyways even without the cut. You really can't tell.

Khan vs Baby bull Diaz would be a very good fight indeed, they are both big lightweights, Khan likes to fight tall and in line with straight punches, while Diaz is short and stocky, putting huge amounts of pressure, going to the body a lot and using left hooks a lot.

I agree. The fight should have been stopped in the second round once they saw that the cut was not stopping bleeding. Terrible decision to let it go on.

Barrera and his corner should know the rules. Why did they keep sending him out?

boxerbob wrote:should be suspended for letting that fight go 5 rounds

that cut looked around 2 inches long - see fightviews

it was so obvious that they were wanting barrera to get to the 5th round , a cut that size and the amount of blood should have made that fight a technical draw after 1 round

if it was khan that was cut like that im sure the fight would have been stopped

disgusting , totally disgusting
My thoughts exactly.

I'm not taking anything away from Khan, he smelt blood (quite literally) and went in for the kill and dominated MAB. If it was Khan who had that gash and blood was pouring into his eye, maybe Barrera would've done the same. If that was the case you can garauntee the fight would've been stopped earlier.

Exactly. And you can include all the boxing writers you want who said that Khan produced a masterclass and would have won with or without the cut, doesn't change the fact that these people are seeing what they want to see.

They all want to look like sages and use the tired old 'He's gone to the well one too many times' metaphor for Barrera whilst elevating Khan's achievement. 'Oh he looked so much bigger, faster and stronger, look how much he has improved! Some people however prefer to look at the truth.

The fact of the matter is that, even with blood pouring into his eyes, Barrera was starting to land shots in the round the fight was oh-so-conveniently stopped. He would have taken Khan's pitter-patters all night - this is a man who took 11 rounds of flush shots from Manny Pac before being stopped on his feet! This fight would have gone 12 rounds, we weren't even halfway through and Barrera was coming into the fight. I think Barrera landed a shot which buckled Khan and that fat f*cker Dave Terry Parris-O'Connor instantly pulled Barrera over to see the doctor who then stopped it so khan could walk away with a win.

I think that tells you all you need to know. Overall, Just another SN-Sky farce conning the public once again.

The doc let him continue after round 4 I guess that meant to him that he would have been allowed to continue, but perhaps he didn't guess that the ref/doc were crooked.

Barrera could have told the Doc he could not see in the first round he never.

he chose to carry on.

agree, and the most obvious evidence of this corruption is that ref waited round 4, doc allowed to continue (and MAB is a warrior he doesn't give up unless the ref stops it, unlike Rahman who is a pussy) then ref goes back to doc in round 5 and then they stop it...when they are sure that will give Khan a win.

Barrera is a warrior not a pussy he will carry on nomatter what, he's not Hasim Rahman. He did chose to carry on, but doc should have stopped it.
If doc allowed him to continue in round 4 why not allow him in round 5? the cut hasn't really changed from round 4 to 5 has it?

Khan looked good, used the ring well, stayed out of range most of the time, controlled his attacks, led with the right punches (no jumping in with his hands low throwing hooks to the body) and had his hands up most of the time. If we are talking about Amir as a prospect which in an ideal world we should be then it was a good performance. Negatives are the stoppage was dodgy and delayed so the W could appear on Amir's record and yes Barrera was old, slow, outsized and hampered by the amount of blood that was going everywhere, but as a fighter Amir showed improvements.

But we have to take all the negatives on board because Amir isn't a prospect anymore, he is a PPV fighter fighting in a world title eliminator. IMO Khan still loses big in proper world class and is nowhere near ready.

The cut didn't change but Barrera was losing more blood. The doctor should have stopped it on that cut right away much sooner but delayed to save Khan a NC imo

I agree. Unfortunately this was just another SN farce. If Barrera had told the ref he couldn't see at the end of round 1, what would have happened? they would have called it a TKO win for Khan.

My question is, was there a point at which it was clearly established by the referee that the cut was caused by a clash of heads, or was it kept ambiguous so they could have got away with the planned corruption?

yeah but Barrera told the doctor in round 4 that he could see and wanted to go on. Yo might say the doctor should have stuck by his convictions, but to call it corruption is outrageous and totally groundless.

The cut was high on the head, when it originally happened Jim Watt said "it shouldn't cause problems". You have to give the corner a chance to work on it and there is no doubt that Khan's punches made it worse.

Well you can include most of the veteran boxer writers out there in that statement, including Graham Houston.
The anti-Khan brigade apart, pretty much anyone could see that Khan battered an older, smaller fighter, kept him on the end of a lightning jab and completely dominated him.
Anyone who says MAB was about to take out Khan, if it wasn't for that damn cut, is bordering on the deluded.
Khan completely dominated the pre fight favorite and deserved his win, Get over it.

The Emperor's New Clothes Hans Christian Andersen

An emperor of a prosperous city who cares more about clothes than military pursuits or entertainment hires two swindlers who promise him the finest suit of clothes from the most beautiful cloth. This cloth, they tell him, is invisible to anyone who was either stupid or unfit for his position. The Emperor cannot see the (non-existent) cloth, but pretends that he can for fear of appearing stupid; his ministers do the same. When the swindlers report that the suit is finished, they dress him in mime. The Emperor then goes on a procession through the capital showing off his new "clothes". During the course of the procession, a small child cries out, "But he has nothing on!" The crowd realizes the child is telling the truth. The Emperor, however, holds his head high and continues the procession. :TU:

Remember the idiom "There are none so blind as those who will not see" :shame:

Since I take it you aren't referring to Barrera being unable to see due to the cut, I think you are trying to insinuate that everyone who chose to conveniently ignore the significance of the cut are actually right.

I understand for the Khan nuthuggers to do this, but I didn't realise there were actually that many of them left?

Please watch the 6th round again and someone tell me that Kahn was in for an easy and leisurely final 7 rounds if it hadnt been for the cut.

right. so you have a massive gash in your head, you cant see because of the blood running in your eye, your getting hit and you cant see them coming, so you tell the ref and he stops it, its ruled a n.c. but you are a pussy? behave. mab has been a boxer for years, he knows the rules and he knows the game, if it effected him that much he shouldve stopped.
Read my post more carefully, I was refering as Rahman's NC vs Toney as he had a small cut, to emphasyse the fact Barrera is a mexican macho and would rather continue even if he has both eyes swollen shut.

but he didn't, and fact is that if the doc thought it was really bad, he should have stopped it in round 2. fact is he let him continue in round 4 and chose to stop him in round 5, earning Khan a win.

It's not that, it's that I don't agree with the people who ignore the significance of the cut, and don't see how any sane boxing fan can think like this when you have a warrior in there who is going to stick around till the bitter end vs a glass-jawed punk with no history of being pressured into late rounds.

It's also seeing a hero like Barrera being totally shat on and subjected to the corruption of SN that's also got me riled - something that no great fighter usually experiences since Frank doesn't like his guys facing real competitors.
