I partially agree Gobbles, but how much time? They had the opening minute to work on it... cut opened up within 10 seconds of round 2 (well never stopped bleeding). By the 3rd it was simply gushing out. I think it could have been stopped end of round 2 or in round 3. Fact was, it was dangerous.

i doubt anyone held a gun to MAB's head to make him take the fight

and as long as he's been around he must have known he would be on a sticky wicket if there was any chance of the ref stopping him

basically mate you're going on about this cynical type stuff when i believe MAB originally took that fight on pretty cynical grounds.

I'm talking about the ref and the doctor waiting till the fight could be settled on a TD and thus putting a bogus LOSS on barrera's record

i didn't put it well mate

basically, IMO, MAB took the fight for a payday, came over knowing he was likely to get jobbed in some way, came over, got jobbed, got paid, went home again, end of.

so when you say 'shat on' etc, my guess is he got the kind of treatment he expected. if he expected any different he's a bit naive, and i think he's been around long enough not to be surprised by it.

I don't agree with that, Barrera is a warrior and he could see Khan's weaknesses and understandably knew he could win the fight. He came over here to win and his unmistakable determination in the fight showed that.

Sure he'll have been aware that there could be some dodgy practices going on, but his plan would have been to leave it beyond doubt I'm sure. The cut, and the cut alone, stopped him from doing that. It's just as much speculation to say that Khan would have gone on to win as saying anything else.

If you disagree with that, you are either saying that

a)Khan would have stopped Barrera (laughable considering Barrera was being hit clean for 11 hard rounds by Pac before being stopped on his feet) or

b)that Khan would have eked out a points decision, which given by the fact he was starting to be hit by shots from Barrera as early as round 6, seems doubtful in the extreme considering Barrera was coming on and Khan cannot take power shots from anyone.

RB don't try putting words in my mouth. I haven't made any speculation as to who would have won or anything like it. i just think your hand-wringing is a bit misplaced as any fighter fighting a SN/FW fighter, shouldn't be surprised if they don't get a fair crack of the whip.

suffice to say your (a) or (b) zero-sum equation, either Khan ekes points win or gets stopped, doesn't cover the issue in my eyes, you are making a false opposition.

you're saying its guaranteed khan wouldn't stop him ('laughable' suggestion). I disagree. umm, okay fine, MAB took shots from Pac for 11 rds. remind me again how long ago that was? and tell me whilst you're at it that you saw exactly the same MAB in with Khan that you saw in there with Pac. that the 2005 and 2008 versions of MAB have the same reflexes/ fitness/ punch resistance. they don't, do they? so its a moot point what he did vs Pac years ago, as the MAB who actually went in the ring on saturday was about 2/3 the man who pac splattered.

i wasn't putting words in your mouth, I was just reiterating what I said earlier in the thread, 'you' meaning anyone. Barrera was hardly hurt at all in the fight and not being discouraged at all. He still had the same chin of old and we already knew Khan had no power at top level. Once he started landing in the 6th you can be sure Khan would have panicked and the flow of the fight was set to change if the cut hadn't happened.

you can be sure of what you like mate I am not so sure myself, either way ;;-) :TU:

between khan's chin and Mab's age- BTW looking at MAB's pudginess how on earth can you predict how well he would last over 12- there were always too many imponderables for me to be as confident about the result here as you seem to be

I'm going to say this again, Khan beat an old guy, way over the hill and outsized. He had absolutly no chance in hell!! Cut or no cut. This was shrewd matchmaking take a look at Calzaghes record and you will understand what I mean.

Barerra came to fight, Meixcans do , but his size and age was the factor in this fight, in my opinion the cut made no difference at all.

What made me angry was that Khan decided to show off during the fight by raising his arms. Raise your arms when you fight a guy who is as hungrey as you, and is the same weight and same height. A 22 year old kid beating the shit out of a 35 year old and showing off was disgusting in my opinion. I cant wait until he meets someone as strong as him again.

however, now that all other FW's 'prospects' have fallen by the wayside i fear he will be fed more cannon fodder until he gets a title shot with the weakest oposition there is.

Cant wait until his ass is on the canvas again.

How can you say the cut had no impact. It was absolutely pissing blood and running straight into his left eye, and it was clear from the ringside doctor's reaction he was never going to get through the fight with it.

Ridiculous comments.

22 year old is a very young age, Especially when facing a 35 year old Veteran. Yes Barrera is passed it, but he is far from shot.
Considering Khan was KO'd in one round just 2 fights before, i think Khan deserves credit where due

It an absolute discrace this fight was not ruled a N.C.
I know it would have been if Kahn was the one who was cut.

The general opinion on this site is that Khan proved nothing and impressed very few on saturday night ... aside from the SKYSPORTS team of course

Here is an interesting article - well not the article actually - its just the predictable piece you expect from a sports writer probably more clued up on something like football or tennis than boxing
But I found the responses at the bottom interesting ... very few of them were impressed by Khan either, and some questioning the `reason` for allowing the fight to go beyond 4rnds

Sorry, so you are saying that even without the cut, he would have won a TD? I don't think you even have a clue what you are on about yourself.

Barrera, even with that cut, was still starting to cut the ring down against Khan, how you think he would not have performed better if he could see out of both eyes, is entirely beyhond.

Without the cut, this fight would have been much harder for Khan. Barrera had to totally abandon any game plan and just try and land a big punch as he couldn't hope to last more than a few rounds before being stopped on the cut.

This is a massively important point. And why the Board let the same person manage and promote a fighter is beyond me.

Of course the cut helped Khan big time - but to me it looked like Khan's night: even before the cut, he looked to have the Mexican's number in the 1st. Yes it could have changed, but we'll never know for sure.
MAB could have forced the ref to stop it for a NC, but he was no doubt banking on landing the big punch, and getting the things over with ASAP.
In fact I think he landed a good left hook just at the end of the 2nd, Khan fell into him and grabbed hold.

And Khan wasn't really taunting Barrera I thought, not in the Calzaghe league at all. Holding his hands over his head when hit is something he's obviously picked up from his new best mate Manny Pac, who does the same thing.

What amazes me is what exactly did Fwank offer to Barrera to make him come here? Plus Barreras people were fecking stupid taking a fight so soon after a bad cut.

Why? MAB got nailed and then retreated to the ropes and just covered up while Khan pounded away, not throwing anything back. Why else would he do that? He was clearly feeling something.
Yes blood pouring in to his eye. Hard to defend that way & very easy for Khan to 'look good'. Amazing how the cut was just good enough for barrera to continue till round 5 thus securing a win for khan.

It was a bullshit win. The only person I saw wobbled was Khan by a Barrera left hook.

How can you lot honestly say it was obvious from the first round Khan would win? By that rule Diaz should have easily beaten Marquez who was behind on the card but coming back in to the fight before knocking Diaz out.

Some people have shockingly selective memories.

Welldone you beat a man who fought 5 rounds with 1 eye. I'm impressed

Facts are this. We don't know. The cut spoilt everything and it should have been stopped.
Disgusted by it all and digusted by the way the press have been reporting it.
