Klitchsko vs Gomez

Post by stujones »

Intrigued what people think of this one? Anyone give Gomez a chance. He could be very awkard for a rusty Vitali. I expect though a kind of Forbes vs Berto esque display. Starting well, but going more and more into survival mode.

Shame its got no TV in the UK - might be shown by five later on I guess.

I actually give Gomez a good chance. I've said before, not really since Byrd or the first few rounds against Sanders has Vitali fought someone who will actually look to avoid shots and not be just a punchbag walking onto him. Vitali looked great beating the snot out of Peter but with hindsight that fight was made for him, how will he look against someone who'll be on the backfoot and boxing him on the outside? Also, i'm still not convinced Vitali's body can stand up to a hard fight, something Sam Peter couldn't give him. Gomez definitely has the speed and skills and hits with just enough power to be a very live underdog.

Feel free to stick this in the worst predictions thread next week should I prove to be very wrong...

klitschko wins.

gomez has done next to nothing to get this shot.

but that's not the sole reason he loses.

he's chinny and vitali can deal with southpaws with his own good speed and reach advantage. :box:

some pics here.

he beat virchis and mccall.

hardly earth shattering results.

he ain't got enough to beat vitali anyway. :shame:

I want Gomez's hat!!

I think Gomez has got the style that could cause Vitali problems for a while, but I expect VK to wear him down and stop him in the second half of the fight

Who has beaten better and not already had a shot? Maybe Povetkin but that's questionable and he would have had a shot had it not been for injury.

I think Vitali will win but Gomez is definitely a live underdog. Also Vitali's stamina has never been great, lets see how it is when he's throwing and missing. His accuracy is excellent against the likes of Peter, Williams and Johnson but lets see how often he can land when he is having to march a fighter down

Interesting fight

I think Gomez has a good chance at the upset, obviously if he keeps his chin well clear that is. Chris Byrd, another slick southpaw, gave the big man problems.
Always the chance Vitali's big frame could break down again, especialy if he's swiping at air.

define problems.

in terms of losing rds it was hardly any.

gomez has enough to fiddle vitali around perhaps.

if he keeps his chin out of the way.

are setanta showing this?

No TV? Pisser. It'd be worth it just for the ringwalks. Klit wears him down for 8th round stoppage. Just like his previous three fights.

If Gomez was as good a heavy as he was a cruiser, he'd have a chance. But he clearly isn't as good as a heavy. His style should give Vitali problems. However, he's not fast anymore. He's not a strong heavyweight, he's not a hard hitting heavyweight. He'll just be pesky & difficult for a while.

I think Gomez is quite tricky, and IMO deserves his shot much more than others getting them, at least he climbed the rankings.

He's awkward and elusive, and when was the last time Vitali fought someone who didn't come straight at him to fight, or was out of shape. You've got to go back at least five years for that.

Only problem is I think Gomez can avoid big shots, but can he land and make an impression on Vitali?

People have called Gomez chinny? Is that true? I know he got sparked in a round by a journeyman once, but as far as I can see that's it?

Biggest problem Gomez will have is Vitali's reach, can he counter puinch him from the outside?

I doubt it.

Awkward fight but one I think Vitali will win on UD or late stoppage

I think Vitali will have no respect for Gomez's power and walk him down and stop him by the halfway mark.He is miles to big and strong for him + vitali's got good relexes himself.

It's pretty clear that no-one in the division has the power & strength to fight Vitali so it will take a pure boxer to beat him and Gomez is the best there is currently. I think he'll make Klit look bad and land more than anyone else has but lose by UD. Due to styles i'd call him a live underdog.

If Gomez gets in the shape of his life I'd give him a decent shot, but I think its a case of picking up a payday. He is 6'3 1/2, slick, fast and more skilled than Vitali, and Vitali looks old to me, I'd like to see him pull it off

all depends how hard JC has trained and if he has stopped partying like Diego Maradona at Napoli.

Vitali can cut and doesnt have the greatest stamina... taking advantage of one of those things is the only way for Gomez to win.

If you wanna know how to beat Vitali watch the first round of the Hide fight, if you wanna know how to lose to Vitali watch the 2nd round :-)

Very good fight.

It's taken a long time for JCG to get back on track after that first round loss.

To my mind, he'll be second only to Lewis as the best opponent Vitali has ever faced. I'd never underestimate a fit and 100% focussed Gomez.

If JCG isn't 100% he loses, if he is 100%, I could see him nicking it.
