Definitely Stu, Calzaghe wasn't any kind of star until 8 years into being a world champ, Khan a massive name even before turning pro - the FW Olympians will have a hard time getting the kind of profile Khan has.
Maybe, but I would disagree - Froch's undoubted abilities... he had a struggle with a guy, who although undefeated - wasn't indpendently in the top 10. Lets see what he does against Taylor before hailing him as a huge talent.

I think Pascal deserved to be in the top 10 based on easy win over Ikeke and exciting loss to Froch.

When guys like Allan Green are in Ring mag's top 10 and Fully Zuniga is classed as a credible defence for Bute, I think Pascal should get some credit.

froch hits hard, is aggressive, fights like he has some hunger and goes after fights like a hungry fighter & won't go the WBOgus way. he's a world amateur medallist, a world champion as a pro and has overpowered 3 guys who had a cliam to being best in Europe (Tatevosyan, Barney, Magee - based on performances vs Euro champs Gogiya, Ulrich, Tsypko). That qualifies as a big talent on these shores.

Ant,

Hennessy has promoted Froch well!!! He got him the WBC championship fight.

Surely making a star is having the media on side - I am a great cynic when it comes to the media and how some of them are so much up a certain promoters arse!!! - yet other prmoters fighters do not get the coverage even if they deserve it that a certain other promoters fighters do!!

I concede now Froch is a champion - it well test Hennessy's promotional abilities - but to have TV on side is a great weapon - at the moment all Hennessy has is ITV and with them not having a pot to piss in - its hardly anything to brag about!!!

And whilst we are on TV - do not take things for granted at Setanta - they need everyones support - they need a certain amount of subscribers to break even and a lot of advertsing revenue to support that and finally some decent financial support - from what people are telling me - every TV company is having a little struggle - so in the context of this thread - I hope Hennessy finds a way of getting Sky TV on board.

Provided Froch beats Taylor I'm curious to see if Hennessy can bring some big(ish) opponents over, put on some big cards over here.

Not unless he is allowed out of his TV contract with ITV and Sky come in with a PPV offer - problem is the ITV contract is a good one for his lesser known fighters.

Ant,

You as always bring out some very good points in your last couple of posts - I honestly believe that the likes of Hennessy and there are others sometimes get a raw deal out of the media - just my opinion - and you state it is Hennessy's job to get the media on side as with any other promoter - hey mate you know more than most the score there - there is only so many free lunches and exclusives etc etc etc that a promoter can give.

I have known Press conferences to be going on at the same time and wondered what the f*ck the press are doing at a certain promoters press conference instead of a possibly more interesting and to a point more high profile one!!! - you know Ant as we have discussed this in the past and that is I feel some sections of the media are sh*t scared of a certain promoter - just my opinion and I honestly believe whilst I am wrong on many issues I have got this one on the button!!!

 and sadly quite accurate.

I always wondered why fighters go on about the WBC being the most prestigous belt. In my mind all these organisations stink.

If you want a decent and respected belt win the British Title. Anyone who has read Jim Brady's book on Boxing will know how these alphabet organistaions are run.

Very interesting that Fury is slated to fight in the states, and ITV had Froch as the guest analysis. I am think ITV might show the Froch fight, might not be live but will show it.

I think Froch with a WBC title and Witter with a WBC title are 2 different things. Witter has an unattractive style. Froch, if he beats Taylor, could look forward to tasty fights with Pavlik, Abraham, Miranda, all sorts of good fights.

Would FW really have made Froch a star?

FW's main fighter for the last few years was a certain Joe Calzaghe.

Harsh on Saunders and Gavin. Saunders did what he had to do and Gavin was fine once he got his timing right. He was bound to be rusty having not boxed since last June. DeGale didn't look clever but not a great choice of opponent for your debut. He just came to spoil

I agree with a lot of what both of you are stating - but - with this ITV contract the worrying thing is ITVs inability to dip their hands into their pockets to put on any potentially big fights that could be made - which if Hennessy is tied down by ITV will then see his boxers going abroad rather than have home advantage - I personally think its testing times for Hennessy - another thing whilst I am here - its not just important for Carl Froch to beat Taylor - I also feel its vital for Hennessy in that having Froch there as world champion maybe a very good bargaining tool in any new negoitiations for TV contracts in the future - Yes Tyson Fury is coming through but it will be another 2 years before we know what he is really like and okay theres Darren Barker - but Froch is vital to Hennessy's cause in my view.

I have not mentioned John Murray - as I see him leaving as soon as his contract is finished.

Stu - completely disagreee with your fighting at home comment - its vital from a promotional angle that Hennessy Sports promotes rather than continually be part of an "in association with" shows.
Hennessy also has Bradley Evans who is a fantastic prospect, but like Tyson it will be a few years before we see the best of him.

Froch will be a star if he beats Taylor in good style in the US. Froch already gets a lot of column inches in the tabloids, which is half the battle.

I'm running short of exclaimation marks, I think Spud has used up the last four thousand. Hurry up and get your asteriks too as there are precious few of those about.

HP is an earnest promoter. Who refuses to flinch from the principles of Area-British-Commonwealth-Euro-WBC fights - I think he should be applauded for that, however there is a downside, long waits for shots - Witter, Eastman and Froch all stood still for months and years.

But Froch's progress has been hampered by injuries. Cost him a year of momentum, maybe 2.

I think a lot of people found it hard to forgive Witter for running from Judah for twelve rounds. I think he'd have earned more respect if he'd had a go and got knocked out. That was the first time Americans got to see Witter and it couldn't have been a more boring fight.
