That IBF belt he got. . . what a liberty against Tarver & Johnson. I hope Woods never gets a belt again. The dismal way he surrendered his belt leaves a bad taste, just as having to call a man like him a 'two time world champion' *RETCHES*
Very harsh but ultimately true.
Whilst I can understand some who may argue that Woods has his limitations - boring to watch?? - no f*cking way!!!

Dawson v Tarver has been postponed.

The thing is the promoters have not requested an exception for this fight from the IBF.

It is now up to either Tavaris Clouds promoter or Clinton Woods promoter to force their position on the IBF or to be paid to step aside!!!

Why is everyone having a pop at clinton? He may not light the room up with his one liners, but he's not a boring fighter, far from it, he's usually involved in a bit of a tear up in most fights.

He's probably something of an overachiever as he isn't blessed with the natural talent of some of our best fighters, but so what, he should be applauded for that.

Here Here.... Yes, sorry for really rubbishing his chances of winning a title with my previous post. I just think the Light Heavyweight devision is looking quite rosey now. I think around the RJJ fight... had Clinton adopted the tactics he used against Ashley and Klemensten he could have beaten all of the other Light Heavyweights (Michaelsweski and Jones excluded). I think he could have beaten Tarver.

Personally, I think the RJJ fight took something out of Clinton - not physically, but more psychologically. He changed his approach to fights after then. In his Super Middleweight days, he was a more of a "jabber" - not a jab and move as such, but would allow other fighters to press as he countered. When he moved up, he was maginificant vs Ashley and Klemensten. He took the fight to them, making them work at a pace they didn't like (took some bombs from a dynamite puncher like Klemensten in the process - what an amazing fight that was). After the Jones fight, he reverted back to his old style more - which obviously brought him success, but for me I think he lost some fights fighting that way (Johnson rematch and Tarver)... in other fights it was clearly the right tactics (first Gonzalez fight).

Obviously excellent call on the Tarver fight, Terrence - I was convinced Tarver was absolutely finished. He was scraping past quite low level fighters. I just think the Woods who faced Ashley would have outworked Tarver (any aged Tarver) down the stretch to come from behind to win a close, maybe controvesial decision... in a fight similar to Johnson vs Tarver 1. All hypothetical now though, shame it never happend... I was shouting on boxingranks that this was a must see fight (Woods vs Tarver circa 2002), Tarver did an absolute number on him last year - but Woods offered nothing, including any desire. I'm glad he has sorted out his problems, his smiling speech, after quite a humiliating one sided defeat, "i've done okay for a skinny bloke from Sheffield" was very strange.

Do you rate Cloud that highly?

I am serious here - by your words I take it you think Cloud is possibly the one to beat out of all of the Light Heavyweights"

Yes he would kill Woods. With all due respect he is one of our worst world champs ever. Yes he had some good fights with Glen Johnson but he never really won any of them. Cloud has the potential to be the best out of the LHW, Clinton would prove a stern test for 3-5 rnds and then get overwhelmed.
What a load of crap!
Clint went 36rounds with Glencoffe,(Chad shit his pants)and would not give him a rematch.
Apart from Gonzalez, who has Cloud beaten??
Woods beat Glen, lost and drew fair results.
Think your prediction is way out regarding Cloud getting a stern test the first 3-5rounds.
Woods gets stronger as the fights go on.
He also aint one of our worst World Champs at all,(you aint got a clue)
Never knocked out,(The Roy Jones fight was a TKO)And he fought him when he rooooooled the planet.
Woods never ducked any fighter,(not like ya Woolworths pick n mix fighters around today)
Remember The next big thing from America?Rico Hoye the ko specialist?
You aint got a clue.

I think if Woods challenges Dawson next, providing Dawson takes care of Tarver, then that will be Clinton's last outing. Dawson would soundly outbox Clinton, perhaps even stop him. One is at the tail end of his career, the other is just starting out & appears to have all the tools required!

I like Clinton, I'd like to see him win another world title, but I can't see it happening tbh! I hope I'm proved wrong.

Clinton had a very good career and provided us with plenty of quality fights. A couple of his fights against Johnson were thrillers, and many of his IBF fight defences were good, too.

That said, I fail to see what he can achieve now. There's no way he could beat Dawson, who really looks big, strong, fast and technically sound. Below that, what would winning another bauble prove? I suppose it could make some money, and nobody, I think, would begrudge him that. But I don't see him becoming 175 kingpin, because that would mean beating Dawson, which just ain't gonna happen.

I often wondered with Woods whether expectation was the key. Against Tarver, the confidence didn't seem to be there, it didn't quite seem to mean as much. Maybe it was an off night, but at his best, I think he might have at least given Tarver an argument. But he just didn't. I wonder whether it was a case of already haven beaten expectations, and beating a name like Tarver on the big stage would have been the icing on th cake -- way beyond expectations, rather than something expected.

I don't know, but best of luck to him. Quality operator, and one of the better British fighters of the last 10 years.
