Claude Abrahams - Boxing News

Post by FLINT ISLAND »

You guys,

What you think of Claude Abrahams of Boxing News, he been the editor of Boxing News since the 1990's taking over from the late Harry Mullan I believe.

I like Claude and agree with the majority of stuff he says - his views and reports on fights.

I remeber allegedly fell out with Boxing News before and sent them a public open letter which they published on their front page.

allegedly also slagged of Claude Abrahams for saying Roy Jones Jnr was the best boxer of all time (he's the best I seen in my life)

Warren didnt agree and scorned Claude Abrahams view - and even said once that he didnt even rate Roy Jones    - thats a bit rich when his Sports Network are full of paper Champions - and Roy Jones was the best fighter of his generation.

I agreed with Claude as I find his views more fair and professional, but allegedly always just slags off fighters who he dont promote.

What do you think about Claude Abrahams and how you think he is doing editoting Boxing News?

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. However, saying you don't rate Roy Jones is fcuking laughable, ridiculous imo!

In respect of Claude, I like the guy. I generally agree with most of what he says in relation to the sport & the fighters. However, thats not the important thing. The important thing is Abrams is a good boxing journalist, in fact, he's one of the very best around right now!

I enjoy reading Boxing News every week & if there was another publication about Boxing produced I would certainly make a purchase if Claude was amongst the team for that publication!

Abrams is a brilliant writer and journalist, and knows his boxing. What's not to like?

Perhaps some might question whether it was the right move taking Boxing News into magazine format and away from being an industry paper, but I don't know. There are arguments both ways.

I like Claude a lot, but don't like to see his name anywhere near the same sentence as Harry Mullan (apart from this one!).

I used to subscribe but haven't renewed recently because there were too many Friday fights I either attended or watched on the box where a Sat am delivery meant I read the preview after the fight! Still must buy every week for me though.

Incidently I thought the front page headline in BN last week was weak - Crunch time for Khan was basically word for word lifted from Boxing Monthly.

We all have a difference of opinion. Roy Jones at his peak might have given a lot of fighters a tricky night.

Does that make him as good as Marvin Hagler, Carlos Monzon, Jose Napoles, Emile Griffith, Archie Moore, Ezzard Charles and Michael Spinks? I doubt it.

I think Claude may have been overwhelmed with the Ruiz fight, and I suspect allegedly respects Claude as one professional would respect another.

Its no big deal really. The best fighter I have seen in the flesh is Donald Curry, but I bet many doubt he is the best ever.

As for Claude Abrams, I think he does a fine job with Boxing news, though I think there is too much emphasis on overseas fights.

As for F rank Warren, he is probably the best promoter and manager we have seen. Lets face it, if it wasnt for him, would professional boxing exist as it does now?

Claude Abrahams applies his trade in a dedicated boxing publication, Warren has a few paragraphs in the Sun once a week, you do the maths.

I think BN has improved greatly over the last couple of years, that has got alot to do with Claude.

Its a shame that his spate with Warren has involved the reporting sometimes in BN.
But i rate Claude's opinion highly, although i don't always agree.

He's frightened to death of the our biggest promoter - Lead editor of our boxing weekly is the last position he should be in.

Thats the central issue - it isn't about having to agree with the things a writer says, as long as those things are eloquently expressed and thought provoking. On that score, only Graham Houston matches up and the likes of the Ring and BM are blown away.

Can anyone name someone better to run the best boxing paper/mag in the world?

I'm happy with it being Claude

we are lucky that it hasn't ended up like The Ring owned by a promoter.

I agree with this 100% also :TU:

I`m not sure how much blame falls directly down to Claude Abrams ... but the changes to the paper since he took over are not for the better in my opinion.
Too many pictures, too many adverts ... and too much amateur scene.

I much prefered it when it had few pics, even less adverts ... and was corner to corner with what we bought it for ... Boxing News :TU:

Be interesting to see how harsh Claude is on Frank re: the Calzaghe litigation.

So long as you stick to the judgement, there is no way he can have a libel pop at you.

Also be interesting to see Claude's view on the MAB cut
I find him hugely knowledgable and his predictions are excellent.
He also knows he has to make BN a profitable venture to survive so sometimes he realises what side his bread is buttered on

Boxing News has improved beyond all recognition in the last 18 months and that is down to Claude Abrams freshening up a paper that was going stale.

Forgotten more than most know about boxing
