Warren Delivers!

SkySports are USUALLY reliable.

allegedly says WBA champion Vivian Harris has agreed to fight Ricky Hatton.

The Sports Network promoter has revealed that the champion will come to Manchester in October to give the Hitman a long-awaited tilt at a legitimate world title.

Forgive my cynicism. I'll believe it when I see it. What price an injury to hatton weeks before?

I'll only be a believer after i've seen the weigh-in.

I can't decide if i should cancel my self-imposed ban on talking about a particular one of Warrens fighters or not. It could all be an elaborate hoax to get me to talk.

I'd have 1000 posts by now if it wasn't for that pesky Warren!!!

Know what you mean, but we know Hatton wants the fight, and we know Harris wants the fight too - the signs are good.

Well done allegedly if this comes off - never thought I'd see him dealing with the WBA again ( major headaches to come ).

From The Gaurdian

Hatton to fight Vivian Harris for WBA title in Manchester

Tuesday July 13, 2004

"I'm not scared of someone called Vivian" Hatton.

Ricky Hatton is to get his long-awaited shot at a major title after promoter allegedly today agreed terms for Hatton to fight WBA world light-welterweight champion Vivian Harris.

WBU champion Hatton recently hit out at Warren for failing to secure him big fights. But that has now changed after Warren reached agreement for the Hitman to take on Harris in his home city of Manchester.

Hatton had been the mandatory challenger for Harris's title, but it took some time for negotiations to be concluded, with the Guyana-born American holding out for a seven-figure pay-day.

"It's been hard work," Warren said. "Originally we had Paul Spadafora lined up, but his manager was taking too long to decide on the fight. I have lobbied the WBA on behalf of Ricky to get him into the number one position which has now paid off.

"Ricky said that he badly wanted the Harris fight, and I've delivered it to him. Ricky will have home advantage, and to that end I have had to pay Harris a lot of money to come over here. It's the biggest purse that Harris has had in his career."

Guyana-born Harris is highly rated around the world, having lost only once in 26 bouts, and will be a real threat to Hatton's unbeaten record. "This is the toughest fight of Ricky's career, and I am sure he will deliver on the night," Warren said.

A date for the fight, which will take place at the MEN Arena, is yet to be announced, although the first weekend in October is likely.

Know what you mean, I was going to say similar myself, but J is correct. You can't condem when they fail, and then condem when they don't. I hope he does deliver, and it is the sign of things to come.

If it was allegedly's choice, this fight would not have been made. This is down to Ricky actually saying something rather than sitting on the fence.

I think that is a harsh statement, Warren has said all along he wants the fight but it was a hard one to deliever - I knows he's contradicted himself in the past, but to say this in my opinion is very harsh.

Its kind of like people still calling De La Hoya a chicken even after he fought Vargas (as they called him a chicken because he pulled out of the original date with an injury).

Fighters in the past have asked for unification matches and it can appear the Warren (or any other promoter) has failed to deliever (i.e. Nelson, Calzaghe) - however, you do have to ask how much these fighters want the fights themselves - its all very good to put the blame elsewhere, the onus is on the fighter though.

I read that in the paper this morning (Metro). Kind of made it sound like if Nelson gets by May then he'll have earned a shot at Maccarinelli's WBU crown.

Just hope they don't try and get away with a poor undercard though, on either bill. I feel they may try as both bills have big names that sell very well, so the promoters may feel they don't need to pay out for quality matches on the undercards. Just a thought.

However it's still a PPV I plan on getting.
