Did David Haye mentally damage Enzo Maccarenelli?
Enzo looked shot physically against Ola. He was knackered by the 9th round and was finally taken out when he was on his last legs anyway. Physically he was defenetly ill prepared for the fight. (lack of sparring etc). But I cant help think how much did Haye smashing him to bits, how much of a blow, deep impact, did it have on him mentally, on his ego and confidence?
Re: Did David Haye mentally damage Enzo Maccarenelli?
No, there was no sign of mental scarring he was just outhustled then Ko'd. He wasted a lot of energy expected to knock him out and just ran out of steam.
Apart from the lack of sparring I heard he was doing more strength conditioning so maybe that was at the cost of Enzo Calzaghe's cardio training.

There just seems an air of bumbling naivety about Enzo which he tries to hide with rhetoric and stubble. He's a genial, affable sort of guy but as I said elsewhere if he was just another 190 pounder from anywhere other than walkable distance of Calzaghe gym would he have had any attention whatsoever. He's no better than Hobson was just had the right leg-ups at the right times.

Not disagreeing with your comment, but doesn't it seem that since Enzo started harping on about doing more 'strength' training, he's looking less likely to ko people? I know obviously Haye was a big step up for Enzo after a string of poor opposition, but it's still the case that he doesn't seem to have the power we thought he did.
I think Enzo knows himself he's never going to be genuine world class, his comments after the fight definitely alluded to that.

I think it did damage him
Re: Did David Haye mentally damage Enzo Maccarenelli?
He said after he was expecting an easy fight!
If this is the case then he should have done his homework properly instead of steaming in there
expecting to ko him easily.
I dont think he was ruined by Haye he is and will always be another slugger.

them Enzo threads that are up in the Brit Forum now on eastside boxing were old threads - someone else bumped them up to drag them out all over again. I have not posted on the threads since they were dragged back up because I dont want to be responsible for keeping them going - like I said they are old threads in the past. People have complained to me about the threads yet the same people are dragging them back up and commenting on them.teddy007 wrote:Please not more Enzo shit, Flint has made east side boxing a laughing stock.
Re: Did David Haye mentally damage Enzo Maccarenelli?
i think the hayes defeat had a his confidence taken away from him. but he did not give up .i reakon he will move to UFC now. he knows he will never get that chance of having the WBo belt back .
Re: Did David Haye mentally damage Enzo Maccarenelli?
Well the reason why they are bringing them backup is because they were rediculous I.E Who would win out of a Prime Tyson and Macarenelli up at Heavy Weight.FLINT ISLAND wrote:them Enzo threads that are up in the Brit Forum now on eastside boxing were old threads - someone else bumped them up to drag them out all over again. Re: Did David Haye mentally damage Enzo Maccarenelli?
Enzo has had 1 full round against good opposition in almost 2 years (Haye). That and a lack of sparring doesn't help.
The guy he fougt in Cardiff on the undercard of Calzaghe Kessler took a drive and was slow and lumbering and then took at drive. So his build up has been very bad. Afolabi impressed me alot though

Re: Did David Haye mentally damage Enzo Maccarenelli?
I think the layoff after the Haye fight did the damage, all Haye did was hit Enzo on his glass jaw which everyone already knew about. Enzo just looked very badly prepared against a very good fighter in this one.

Re: Did David Haye mentally damage Enzo Maccarenelli?
What I would like some clarification on is, how many rounds, if any did Maccarenelli do in preparation for Ola? Allegedly said Enzo told him he hadn't done any sparring, whilst Enzo Calzaghe said they had done sparring!
Fcuk knows what happens to Enzo's career form here on out? I'm sure people will be lining up to box him as they know his chin is a big weakness!
For an Enzo Calzaghe fighter I would be very surprised if he wasn't in top shape!

Re: Did David Haye mentally damage Enzo Maccarenelli?
Enzo was heavier and more musclebound, you need longer for your body to adjust and carry it easily, I think this may have been a factor.
Moreover his tactics really were the problem

Despite the thread title I made - I think it may be more a case of now not Haye but how much Ola has damaged the confidence of Enzo after that energy sapping brutal 9th round KO.

Easy fights damaged Enzo.
The question should be has the Enzo win flattered Haye!

Of course it flattered him - he went from guy who got nearly knocked out by Mormeck - to many very easily influenced fan boys saying he was the best Crusierweight of all time !!!!!! - or at least second only to Holyfield !!!!!!DG. wrote:Easy fights damaged Enzo.

James Toney
Gomez
Dwight Quai Muhammed
Fabrice Tiozzo
Immanu Mayfield
Vasil Jirov
are just a few fighters who come to mind who would have had a GREAT chance of beating Haye
Re: Did David Haye mentally damage Enzo Maccarenelli?
In my view, if Maccarinelli had had a three or four solid fights between the Haye fight and now, he would have won them all. After the Haye fight, he needed a break for 4-6 months, and then to get right back going again.
Instead he had, what?, nine or ten months, followed by the utter farce that led to him fighting Ellis, followed by another four months before fighting another no name. He must have been frustrated, and must have started wondering whether it was worth the candle. Talking about MMA and training in ju jitsu just confirms that.
He has clearly lost focus, and given his limited talent at the world level, that's leathal.
Given the now weak again nature of the 200lb division, there are some decend fights out there for Maccarinelli, if he can refocus and get back to winning ways.

Re: Did David Haye mentally damage Enzo Maccarenelli?
As DP says Enzo does seems a little deluded. His little whine about 'something always goes wrong in preperation' smacks of a weak minded boxer who won't take responsibility. Reminds me of something Herbie Hide said after one of his defeats to a 'bum' (his word)

Re: Did David Haye mentally damage Enzo Maccarenelli?
Having a great chance of beating somebody does not necessarily mean they should be rated higher at a particular weight. In terms of results, Haye has certainly achieved more at cruiserweight than Toney, Tiozzo and Mayfield. Gomez and Jirov had more longevity there but arguably weaker opposition. And what makes you think Mayfield would have had a great chance over Haye??FLINT ISLAND wrote:Of course it flattered him - he went from guy who got nearly knocked out by Mormeck - to many very easily influenced fan boys saying he was the best Crusierweight of all time !!!!!! - or at least second only to Holyfield !!!!!!DG. wrote:Easy fights damaged Enzo.
