Firstly I don't think losing to Haye did Enzo any favours what so ever and given all the hyperbole before that fight, it would have hurt his pride immensely. Goes without saying.

But, in the lead up to this fight I got the impression Enzo thought that now David was out of the way, it was a clear path to take full control of the division.

Ola seemed to lack a bit of venom in his punches, but he made up for it with his resistance, persistence and general confidence. We all know Enzo can be a little chinny, so he got tired and in came an overhand right in the 9th. Poor show from Enzo really. Good luck to Ola though - I don't think he is particularly world class from what I've seen, but hey, why not? Fighters like Ola and Rogan keep this sport interesting - everyone loves a Rocky tale! :box:

Mayfield could dig - he nearly killed Terry Dunstan. He was better than Carl Thompson. Big and tall and strong and could explode a lethal right hand - a major danger to Haye

You are being deliberately disingenuous. I am sure, and you probably know, that Dave was saying that the first fight was a real struggle for Enzo, and in the second bout he whacked the guy in the back of the head, without any malicious intent, but the shot was borderline legal and ended the fight quickly, without Enzo proving anything.

Enzo's entire hype prior to Haye was built on the back of a win over Braithwaite, who was flattered by later results. The Lewis comparisons were laughable and many of us were still aware that Enz had struggled mightily at British level versus Hobson and Scott.

He was never on the same footing as Haye, and when they fought this was proven, anyone with a few smarts will beat Enzo, that is not a dig at him, the evidence speaks for itself, he was pushed beyond his level by cautious matchmaking and hyperbolic punditry.
Agreed completely. I never knew what the fuss was with Enzo.

But when you get Jim Rosenthal (may have been Bazza) telling the wider public that he is the 'most chilling puncher in world boxing' after he as you put Terence 'whacked the guy in the back of the head', what does anyone expect?

Mayfieldwasnt that good, what killed Dunstan was his Lifestyle at the time. He was F**ked after 3 rds, being in a Nightclub while 4.30 in the morning the night before probably had something to do with it :DDD

Yes it left Enzo in a bad way BUT I firmly believe that David is the biggest punching cruiserweight the world has ever seen!! If he nails you there's only 1 place your going and that's DOWN....

I'd have loved to see Haye Vs Holyfield..It would be one amazing fight.. :box:

No, I'm not being "deliberately disingeneous". I'm not disputing that Enzo's world class worth has been exaggerated in the past (people on this very forum were prostrating themselves with joy at the announcement of Enzo-Braithwaite, while I said from the start it flattered to deceive), but in this game, results are really all that counts, and you can't say say one fighter is "no better" than someone he's beaten twice.

(OK, even if I accept there were unfulfilling circumstances to the finish of Enzo-Hobson II, Enzo DID win the first match fair and square. Sure it was a hard fight, and harder than it should have been for someone with world title pretensions, but he won it, which therefore makes him "better than" Hobson.)

Watch it again. I thought Hobson won comfortably by two rounds. He pretty much boxed Enzo's head off throughout and nearly dropped him a few times.

Enzo's weaknesses were exposed for all to see in that fight.

I agree, i watched it live in the arena and then on tv and had Hobson the winner both ways as did most of the crowd. It was a bad decision rather than a robbery. The KDs for Enzo probably turned what could have been 9-10 rounds into 10-8 rounds.

I had Hobson the winner too, but only by a round.

However, I thought Enzo came out of that fight very well, showed a good heart and stamina - Anyone could see he had been working hard on his boxing skills.

The Braithwaite win was very good too and Enzo boxed well, but the mismatches against Gunn, Azzaoui and Ellis have not helped him at all.

There is no doubt in my mind he fell for the hardest punching cruiserweight in the world theme which was actually started when he was on SKY, couple that with shit match making against not so good fighters, and it's a recipe for disaster further down the line. (note to khan)

I think Enzo has ability, but too much bullshit has resulted in him dropping down the pecking order, and it is going to be hard road back up through the ranks.

He won't get in ufc he has never done an mma match, dana white won't take him of his boxing rep he has been doin brazilian ju jitsu but that doesn't mean he will get in ufc.
He called out bishping a while ago but he would kill enzo.

Enzo should try not comin out to tom petty......"No I won't back down..gonna stand my ground..."

His cardio was shockin he looked like he had been half arsed in prep for fight...lifting barrels in a nightclub
Maybe enzo calzaghe should let them skip instead of just runnin stairs.
He may have blown it and its a shame he has been fuct about but should train hard fight easy.

Lets be fair, Enzo has a decent punch on him. He knocked out Bobby Gunn for Christs sake.

lets get it straight.
1. after youve had a loss like the haye loss you dont train half hearted. you make sure you are in such good nick that you crush all the bums put in front of you.
2. yes. haye broke enzo up in his head as well as his body.
3. please no more rubbish talk about calzaghe senior being the greatest trainer in boxing. enzo's condition is his responsibility.
4. big mac was always a third rate campaigner. he should quit
