Bizarre Skybet Amir Khan specials

Post by E »

Skybet are offering a number of marketrs on AMir Khan in 2009 - and are strangely accepting bets on a lot of potential matches.

Odd as I can't believe anyone would part with their money on specific speculative fights that ar e likley not to happen (all fights have to take place in 2009 an they offer odds on 16 different fighters as follows:

Amir Khan Specials

http://www.skybet.com/skybet?action=GoE ... d=10004511

* World Title 2009
* Khan A vs Marquez JM
* Khan A vs Guzman J
* Khan A vs Romanov Y
* Khan A vs Diaz Juan
* Khan A vs Diaz Julio
* Khan A vs Casamayor J
* Khan A vs Funeka A
* Khan A vs Moses P
* Khan A vs Peterson A
* Khan A vs Valero E
* Khan A vs Katsidis M
* Khan A vs Diaz David
* Khan A vs Prescott B
* Khan A vs Arthur A
* Khan A vs Murray J
* Khan A vs Thaxton J

But here are the oddest things:

Khan is favourite over Prescott at 5/2 on???? What??? Was the first fight a fvcking mirage???
KHan is also favourite over Anthony Peterson (4/7 on)

And is evens against Katsidis (not so bad but still)

He is also a big underdog against Casamayor an JUan Diaz (both opponents are 6-1 on) - fine he should be an underdog, but why is he favourite against PEterson an underdog against Diaz?

I won't be betting on any of this silliness until a fight is made but it is odd that they can't seem to be able to price KHan at all....

Skybet, and Khan is a Sky cox office fighter- looks like a bit of a "special bet" section to promote him, really. Fair enough, like- their site their choice and all that.

But I doubt there will be heavy (if any) betting interest on most of these.

YEs good point - though I am not sky own skybet. I think they may just lend their name and let someone run it.

But even if they do - a small, niche market is not going to achieve must in terms of promotion.

But still - can you believe those Prescott odds? If that fight did happen this year I would put my house on at those odds

I remember years ago talking to a guy from Ladbrokes about betting at football matches - first goalscorer etc.

He said the odds were always much shorter on the home team because the vast majority of bets were going to be on the home team. Same here.

The other thing to bear in mind is that your money will be tied up for a long time. They were offering odds of 20-1 on James DeGale winning a world title in the next ten years. On the surface, a decent bet. But you put a tenner on now and you won't see it for years. You could end up passing on that betting slip in your will.

Same with these bets. Put £20 on Prescott to beat Khan and most likely you will be claiming it as a non-runner on January 1 next year. All pointless bets.
