True Gentleman! I remember bumping into him in The Frdige in Brixton a few months after he beat Nigel Benn, very humble even then. Still not been able to get through the whole of his book, way too hard to read because of the struggle he went through, the courage he nhas shwom and not one ounce of bitterness for the Sport.
That would have been one for Bunce's fantasy fights.
Michael Watson vs Joe Calzaghe. I always would have thought Joe would have been to strong for Michael - but I remember him presenting Joe with the "welsh sports personality of the year" award and their frames were similar.

i was always a Watson fan and it took me a long time to get round to reading the book as i knew it would be a tough read. However the book was very inspirational and a credit to man and recommended.
I rescued a hardback copy from a bargain bucket about 2 weeks ago in a Waterstones. Not started it yet mind I'm reading Dean Karnazes Ultra Marathon Man, which is good.
When Michael was at the top of his game the only fighters I had heard of were Frank Bruno and Mike Tyson and Apollo Creed.
I get an impression from the things I've read and heard over the years that he was more skillful than both Benn and Eubank. He sounds like a top bloke too, whatever he is up to these days I hope you are winning Michael

Great to see him making continuing improvements.
his recovery is nothing short of a miracle and because of what happen to him fighters like Gilbert Eastman got the medical treatment ringside they needed and made a full recovery from their injuries.
Is Gilbert on the way to a full recovery? Its gone a little bit quiet on the news front there - thats so pleasing to hear.
Michael against Benn was an awesome night in a tent in finsbury park, 4 title fights that night, I had the best position on one of the tent poles, then another cameraman came along, I told him to FO, Ambrose told me he was from ABC and had priority, lol, I still filmed from the same position tho, fantastic atmosphere, Mickey Duff checking his watch waiting for Benn, said he was only waiting 2 mins or he would take Michael back to the dressing room

Lennox, Eubank and Roy Jones were near ringside for Benn-Watson, as was Michael Nunn. It was NBC, mainsteam US-TV!
It's a shame the McCallum-Watson fight didn't happen in the next few months or Watson didn't fight a warm-up in the States or something, to follow-up on that.
