Paul Smith: Dodson & Quigley don't deserve it

Post by Neri »

Just been listening to Liverpool super middle Paul Smith speaking in an interview with local radio and he says Tony Dodson and Tony Quigley don't deserve to fight for the British title, Dodson because he has had his time and has repeatedly pulled out of big fight opportunities with injury and Quigley because he has had only one scheduled 8 rounder. He may have a point on Quigley but it is only because Magee pulled out.

The fighters on the radio show like Dodson and David Price were quite shocked when they heard the interview and Dodson just laughed but you could tell he was annoyed in his reply to it. Dodson and Smith have sparred together and it's been a long time since one Liverpool fighter has openly dismissed another, even if it is just Paul's opinion. The scouse lads usually back each other for the good of the city's boxing scene.

This could give an all Liverpool showdown between Smith and Dodson an extra push in the right direction. What a fight that would be. Both have blown hot and cold over the years and surely the loser wouldn't have many places to go even if they are both still quite young. I hope this fight happens down the line anyway.

But first Dodson has to take care of Quigley and if he does I think he must immediately take on Brian Magee so who knows if and when it will happen.

Prefer to see Paul at middleweight, but he still walks through Dodson and Quigley

Quigley certainly doesn't sererve it, he was down to CHALLENGE for the English title, now he bypasses that an boxers for the British.

more generally, anyone know how ticket sales have gone on for this show? Would be a bit depressing to have the arean mostly empty.

Well Smith needs to get a move on himself, he's been pro for a while now and at 26 should be a British champ by now. Bloody lost to Bendall too.

Quigly is average, he might be able to beat Dodson but not a chance vs Smith and lets face it if you are Carl Dilks then Paul smith would KO you out and ur a light heavy.

Must of be the curse of McGirt, is he still with that guy? He was less agressive since then.

Still though he could be fighting for the British by now.

When you are a whopping 26-1 and your best win to date is Cello Rendo and a couple of shot Yanks from the Contender...you kinda have no right calling other fighters 'undeserving'.

Smith is the definition of a Sports Network 'product'. The latest in a long line.

27 pro fights for fornicate's sake. Other boxers have unified divisions in less bouts. Jesus.

Fair point, yeah, but he did look very capable in finishing his latest opponent, although the quality of opponent was debateable.

I'd like to see him fight McDermott for the title he lost to Bendall.

You used to train down the collyhurst for a little while right? We probably did spar but i cant remember you, i was only there for a short while until i got a serious injury. You would not say that to my face Carl so don't say it on a forum. Fair enough if you think I am wrong but like you say that is just an opinion.

No 2 years ago, when Quigg and Rhys were just starting out. Quigg has really come on and looking good not too sure about Roberts though(not seen too much of him). Don will go far :TU:

I'll tell anyone who will listen Kenny Anderson will steam through the lot of them before the end of the year, he's miles better than them all.
