re Caballero - Well let's see, in one or two fights he didn't look so hot. But he stoped Molitor in Canada, Sitchatchawal in Thailand, outslugged Ponce de Leon in California (PDL adopted home). He's a unified champ and is in the Ring top 10 p4p. If he was "just" a big guy I don't think he would have done that much. He can make hard work of things but when he's put in a hard situation he really shows that elite level quality.

The one interesting thing linking Dunne and Caballero - Caballero also won the "regular" title, also. Took him a long time to be able to get hold of the proper WBA champ.

Dunne - talented, popular, etc. Perfect fighter for Caballero to come over and smash in his hometown. This is what CC does in his sleep, beat up the home boy who calls himself champ. Wonder if the Dunne fans would want to see that fight!

WOW amazing - well done to bernard, esp after rd 5. That will keep him in good stead for the future. clawing back after the jaws of defeat - he really did his homework after kiko martinez.

I for one, didnt think he had a world title in him, but as a proud irishman I'm glad i was wrong.

Peters now will make him serious cash - the irish love a bandwagon.

it's still the WBA splitting their title to get more sanctioning fees.

agreed, dunne's not a world champion - not really. but he will have to defend vs some of caballero's top contenders.

however this "eliminator against cordoba" will allow dunne to call himself world champ, to headline some big main events, to defend the WBA strap. he will be treated like a world champ proper in ireland.

The splitting of the title is pretty much justified...it means Cabballero can participate in super-fights without being stripped, I dont fall out with it at all...

Well it was a performance of a champion against a world class operator and thats what counts for me.

I thought Cordoba was winning the fight comfortably for the first 2 rounds, then Dunne caught him with a peach - but it looked like a minor blip as Cordoba controlled the fourth and dominated the 5th. I was sure they fight wasn't going to see the 7th round, and I was preparing to write "Game but outclassed" on the post fight thread... but then, Dunne found away and dominated the last half of the fight. I think the fight was very close on the cards at the end, but Dunne made sure of it.

Israel Vasquez is the true Super-Bantamweight champion of the World and everyone else is just a contender no matter what they have around their waist. Some contenders are just a bit better than others, Dunne has established himself as a very good contender and due to the nature of modern boxing has a 'World title' to defend.

Yes it is the 'regular' title which shouldn't even exist, but if boxing was right the WBC, WBA, IBF and WBO wouldn't exist we'd only have one fornicating belt. But that's life .

Dunne is a contender after beating Cordoba (who has never won a world title fight). There is no way Dunne can be considered a world champion after beating a man who was basically given a fake belt for no reason other than cash.

Caballero's a great fighter, but he'll never be given a shot at vazquez as he presents too much risk. He's a worthy champ in his own right IMO, done everything else a fighter could do, winning a title away from home, destroying Molitor in unification, etc. He's considered a top p4p fighter and is a threat to anyone. I feel multiple world champs are just a reality.

Even though Vazquez is the real champ, all his defences came against bantamweights who moved up and he may not even fight at super bantam again.

While I don't really consider Dunne a champ, it looks good for Dunne that he beat a man in Cordoba who beat Caballero. Yes, all very complicated, but in many ways lots of intrigue and possibilities.

Personally I think Frank cares for his fighters, you only have to see his face and hear the emotion in his voice when hs fighter wins/loses.
