Thoughts on Dunne
Re: Thoughts on Dunne
that's the problem with boxing. the bickering instead of the fighting. Munroe has 2 wins over someone who fvcking splattered Dunne. You'd think Dunne would want to finally put Martinez behind him. He could do that by fighting Munroe. If some Euro level fighter beat Prescott, you bet your arse that Warren would get him in for Amir Khan.
Munroe's success v Martinez qualifies the fight. Dune-Munroe has the grudge factor, has the compelling subplot. No one's gonna tell me that Dunne is fighting a top 10 super bantam in his first title defence. So why not? I think it's clear as day whom the draw is now. The draw is Dunne. That is certainly settled. If Rendall will travel, I don't see why not.
Some ppl are getting a bit touchy. Protective of Dunne, like. No one is trying to run Dunne's achivement down. He won half a title vs a classy operator in an awesome fight. Nowadays you need a Euro title to make a top domestic fight, and you need a world title to make a top Euro level fight.

Re: Thoughts on Dunne
dunne should fight munroe first defence . he would box the ears off the bin man all night . everyone who knows anything about boxing knows that martinez is limited and got lucky against dunne
Re: Thoughts on Dunne
I'd rather him take a real fight, Juanma anyone?

Re: Thoughts on Dunne
didn't know Munroe was in Ring mag's top 10 at 122.
this is a very credible first defence for Dunne.
Top 10 fighter.
European champ.
Grudge match, all that tit for tat stuff of recent.
2x wins over Martinez, the Martinez who starched Dunne.
If there's a better 1st title defence out there for Dunne, someone tell me.
Come on, do it for Britain

Re: Thoughts on Dunne
I think the Martinez loss was brilliant for Dunne, he has come back alot better. The crowd was insane for the Dunne and went ballistic when the ref called the fight off and when Dunne was hitting him with multiple shots.
I am hearing Jimmy Magee commentry was horrible for the fight.

Commentary was woefully biased, was watching it and thought about turning the sound down it was that annoying.brian13 wrote:I think the Martinez loss was brilliant for Dunne, he has come back alot better. Put dunne in against munroe in dublin to put all this domestic rubbish to bed, no way does munroe beat dunne with his weak flurries and PHENOMENAL fitness.....

Re: Thoughts on Dunne
Exactly. Maloney and Munroe can only dream of putting on a fight and an event like last night. I'm not even Irish and I couldn't help but get caught up in the atmosphere. Cracking stuff all round.knowitall wrote:I hope Peters tells you to go to hell, if Munroe wants a world title, let him go out and get it.FtmPress wrote:Well Lets Get It ON ?Eraserhead wrote:Screw Munroe. He should get in line. Munroe and Maloney were happy to sit there all smug and tell the world that Dunne had made a mistake and was going to get smashed to bits. Well, look what happened. That's how it goes when you take a risk from time to time. Maloney pretty much admitted on the Bunce hour that he bottled it when the fight was offered to Munroe. He didn't expect his man to win.
Anyway, on that form Dunne takes Munroe apart.
Well done to the little Irishman! He battled superbly all night.
You more or less said that if Dunne loses that you won't give him a European title shot and now that Dunne is world champion it's all "let's get it on"! Dunne does not need Munroe, he never has. I think it's time you stopped using Dunne to get publicity for your fighter cos let's face it that's what's been going on these last few months.
I don't think I have read an article about Munroe without Dunne's name being mentioned.
Whoever was wondering why Dunne left the US, it is because Sugar Ray Leonards Promotion Company folded so Dunne decided to come home and revitalise the Irish boxing scene, which he certainly has done!!!
It's so sweet how it all worked out, given Maloney's bitter boasts in recent weeks. Fair play Dunne and Peters. Took a gamble and it paid off beautifully.
'Let's get it on'? Don't make me laugh. Get back to those leisure centres.

Well done to the lad but do you think he can hold on to it im not sure
Re: Thoughts on Dunne
I think he can beat the #1 contender, the Thai Poonsawat. That would be a good scalp & a winnable fight.

Re: Thoughts on Dunne
Well done to Bernard Dunne, a real battle. The fans at the 02 certainly got their VFM. On the question of is he a true World champion. As far as I am concerned he is as much a World champion as the others with a title. Is he the best World champion at the weight is another matter. The title situation is laughable really, with multiple champions in every weight division no fighter can really say he is THE World champion. Then you get Khan who is looking to get a World title without proving he is the best LW in Britain. I think all fighters should be made to progress through the domestic ranks before getting a chance at Euro (if they live in Europe, of course) and then maybe an eliminater for a World title. I also think all World title holders should be made to unify so a true World champion can be established. None of this will happen though.
Re: Thoughts on Dunne
Watched the RTE stream, great fight, entertaining throughout and a great win for Bernard on what was essentially a great day for Irish sport!
I'd hate to see what knowitall has to say on a bloody bad day, good god I've never seen someone throw the toys out of the pram so badly on a message boad! Chill fella your man has done you proud, enjoy the moment.

Jesus how touchy are you ??? Munroe v Dunne is a must now surely ?
You say you haven't read a Munroe article without Dunne's name in it well have you read a Dunne article without Munroe's name in it ? No you haven't thats because this fight is a must .
Munroe would beat Dunne on points imo
Re: Thoughts on Dunne
No bias here, but as far as I see it, the WBA "regular" champion isn't a world champion. Celestino Caballero is the world champion. However, Dunne should fight him next.

i hope dunne fights munroe he deserves an easy first defence , then go for poonsawat and then caballero

If you think that an easy defense then your wrong, Rendall was probably going to tread water with the EBU title untilmoorser wrote:i hope dunne fights munroe he deserves an easy first defence , then go for poonsawat and then caballero
Dunne won , now he will move swift to get Dunne in the ring who is the IMO the least dangerous champion @ 122
Re: Thoughts on Dunne
Wasn't Munroe struggling to find good opponents for the EBU title, and contemplating fighting for the Commonwealth belt? I saw an article on this recently. It looks like they are in real need of someone interesting to fight. Even if Dunne hadn't won this WBA, I think it seems like Munroe could have done with a fight against Dunne. Of course, a few days ago, Munroe had the upper hand - EBU title, wins over Martinez. Now Dunne has the upper hand seemingly for negotiations. I think a fight like this should happen, ideally. Munroe is a solid battler who's carved his way to a world top 10 ranking in Ring mag. And Dunne's scored one sensational win. You have the contrast in styles, personalities, etc.
IMO it would be an excellent title defence. Wouldn't the Irish fans be bitterly disappointed if Dunne fought some crap/unknown opponent?

because munroe is limited dunne will destroy him . just wait and see , i cant wait for this fight to be made , ive said it all along munroe is limited but yous just cant see it for some reasonworld ranked wrote:If you think that an easy defense then your wrong, Rendall was probably going to tread water with the EBU title untilmoorser wrote:i hope dunne fights munroe he deserves an easy first defence , then go for poonsawat and then caballero

Autobarn, I think that is what Munroe's next move is - it was on the BBC text today.
It was an excellent event by Peter - a world title fight, and Lee vs Sipos was a decent fight, Sipos is no journeyman.

I think Monroe is a lot better than you give him credit for and super fit as well. Not saying he could beat Dunne but no way would it be an easy fight for Dunne.moorser wrote:because munroe is limited dunne will destroy him . just wait and see , i cant wait for this fight to be made , ive said it all along munroe is limited but yous just cant see it for some reasonworld ranked wrote:If you think that an easy defense then your wrong, Rendall was probably going to tread water with the EBU title untilmoorser wrote:i hope dunne fights munroe he deserves an easy first defence , then go for poonsawat and then caballero

If Dunne fights Monroe in his first denfence then I would salute him because that is far from an easy fight for Bernard!moorser wrote:i hope dunne fights munroe he deserves an easy first defence , then go for poonsawat and then caballero
As for Caballero, Dunne & Munroe are better off staying away from him because he is a beast. I think both Dunne & Munroe would be beaten pretty comprehensively by Caballero!
The physical advantages would simply be too much!
