As a matter of fact, I know a kid who has had over 250 amateur fights...his book doesnt say that, though

and, once again, I know a kid who had numerous JO bouts...he fought at the PAL nationals in Florida as a JO...took time off from boxing..came back and entered the novice Golden Gloves here...successfully...

At amateur shows here, there are always several officials involved in each bout who record weights/doctors result/result in each boxers books.

It's the same here.

Aside from the fact that it's against all the rules, I can't think of how one could possible pull off arranging an amateur bout between two boxers without their passports.

Boxers aren't supposed to weigh in without their passbooks - this does happen but the bout doesn't happen unless the passbook has been received prior.

Other than the fact that the rules are not always followed with Golden Gloves......it's also possible that he hadn't had more than 11 bouts when he took his time off.

On a similar note, cheating does happen. Yeah, it happens. I saw a kid fight at this years 2009 Silver Gloves in the 14-15 year old division who also fought 12-13 in 2004!!!!! Instead of him being too old, he actually competed too early I believe. In 2004 he was 8 years old.

Iceman - how can you cheat regarding your record with duplicate book when it clearly asks for you write in the current wins and loses that you had in previous (original) book?

Yeah - it does. And sometimes it's because the tournament administrators, from the district level on up, don't check birthdates and verify eligibility. I remember when Juan McPherson got all the way to the Worlds where it was caught by AIBA officials that he wasn't 17 yet!

I will say one thing I always find surprising but this happens MORE OFTEN THAN NOT...most kids I ask their record do not know...they only know about how many fights they have had..I believe most pro publicists just estimate..as a matter of fact I know for a fact that I have seen several guys who have had their records GUESTIMATED. I ask kids what their amateur records were/are and they literally have no idea..I never understood that...I know my amateur record inside and out, all the details

Most of our kids don't know their records either - mostly because we keep their passbooks with us and partly because they don't really care that much about it. Don't get me wrong, they don't like to lose or anything, but they bounce back so quickly after a loss. We have a lot of shows around here, so they can always get back in the ring quickly after a loss.

In Baltimore all the time for amateur shows. Don't really get to the local pro events much. Last one I went to was because boxer in our gym Seth Mitchell was fighting local and we don't get to see him much because he's with GB and is mostly out of the area. What show is on the 2nd? Didn't see anything about that?

Do you have any info on this show, John? I've seen some vids from these shows. Midget fought Dusty (DC) on this show and a boxer from our gym fought Pedro Sosa on the video I saw. Very well done show overall and I'd love to see if we could get on. . .

I managed Robert Daniels for his first 16 pro fights and his amateur record was 76-14 and that was approximate, give or take a few wins and losses.

I agree that these 202-4 records are bullcrap. Savon, a three time olimpian with a great record was stopped somewhere around 16 times in his 200 plus career.

I agree with Scully. I know my amateur record (26-9) but I've met a lot of amateurs that have no idea of their exact records. The passports help but back in my day- no passports or headgear- a lot of records were guessed.

I've even had pros that did not know their record. Angel Robinson Garcia would tell you he had between 250-300 fights. I had another old timer tell me he fought a guy twice when in fact they fought three times. Fighters are not good record keepers.
