Lew Farber

Post by Rkrasner »

You have the birthdate of my late, great-uncle, Lew Farber as Jan 1 1912, but according to the website http:\\www.jewsinsports.org, his birthdate is March 16, 1916.

Where did you get this information?

Richard Krasner

P.S. His older sister Dora Farber is my paternal grandmother.

Better yet, where did they get theirs? Our first documented bout is in New York, November 5, 1928 on a new talent card. This may or may not have been his pro debut, but it is close. If he was born in 1916, he was 12 years old.

Further, it probably was not made clear in this record's bio, but a Jan 1. birth-date usually means the exact date is unknown.
Anyway, the 1934 EVERLAST BOXING RECORD, p. 75, says he's 23 then.

The Social Security Death Index has a Lew Faber born on March 16, 1916 passing away on May 5, 1995 in Boca Rotan, FL. However, I agree with Robin that it is extremely unlikely that Faber was boxing professionally at the age of 12.
