Just liked judges score at local shows when there are only 3. And only 3 judges are used on computer scoring in dual meets. For optimum results, it's always better to use 5 judges whenever possible, but not necessary. How can all 3 judges see anything but an overhand right from the center of the ring?!

No, the one-second window does not apply to clickers. What happens if the computer goes down in the middle of the round with 5 judges? No difference. Amy - you're hung up on the scoring and forgetting that it doesn't score all by itself. People push the buttons. I'll agree that using only three judges narrows the chances, but it doesn't really change anything. At a local show with clickers you don't have to all click within 1 second for it to register do you? When there's only 3? Seems pretty silly to me to rely on the 1-second computer system when there is only three. What happens if the computer goes down in the middle of a round?
Re: computer scoring advice
I was just curious the logic behind why the computer would be used if there are only 3 judges as opposed to clickers.
You should ask. Maybe Canada doesn't use clickers? It is my belief that computer scoring is used for tournaments there.
Don't know. AIBA has stopped using paper judges for backup - guess if the computer goes down, the judges are handed scorecards and go from there. And what do they do if the computer goes down and there's not back up judges using paper?
Nothing. Just make sure you stay in the middle of the ring and move. And if you are boxing with the computer and there are only 3 judges, what should you do different?
Which means you want to put yourself in the position where 2 out of the 3 can see you.Because I can't really see how all three judges can see a punch at the same time, it's nearly physically impossible.
Re: computer scoring advice
Yes, it is, Amy. You set up the system for either 5 or 3 judges. But two judges isn't enough to record a point.
Re: computer scoring advice
British Columbia has had a "Golden Gloves" tournament for years. It doesn't lead to any national tournament.Canada doesn't have the GG either, btw. It's an American tournament
Re: computer scoring advice
Sigh - I shudda explained that in the first place. My bad.Ah, ok. That's what was wondering. Thank you Mel.

Re: computer scoring advice
take a look at the three judges. keep your opponent in the middle and your back to the corners on either side of the middle judge. that way when you score a shot the judges see it. when your opponent scores a shot, the judges won't see it because your back is to them with your scoring target away from them. you can train for this by placing pylons on the ring apron when you spar. if you see the three pylons in your vision that means the judges see your scoring target. practice putting your spar mate in those prime positions.
