Re: 2009 Texas State Champs
That is some serious wishful thinking. "At least 3", wow! Do you realize it is really tough to get just 3 national champs from one franchise in a year. You are saying that you think it is likely that it will be more than 3. Good luck, but I think you will be disappointed if those are your expectations.CoreyWash wrote:our Texas team will be represented very well..i think we should have at least 3 national champs..
Re: 2009 Texas State Champs
Remember Texas didn't have anyone in the finals in 2008 let alone a national champ. You only had 2 in the semi-finals. Now you want at least 3 national champs?
Last year New Jersey had 2, New England had 2 and New York Metro had 2. If you don't have the word "new" in your name, you can forget about having more than 1 national champ!

Re: 2009 Texas State Champs
Dennis,
While I agree with you, your body of evidence is a bit lacking.
Sure 2008 didnt produce any Texas franchise champs, but in 2007 Texas had 3 in the finals with 2 champs.
At the 2008 PAL championships, Texas had 2 finalists and 2 champs, including Outstanding boxer.
At the 2008 Under19 championships, Texas had 6 finalists and 4 champs!
At the 2009 Silver Gloves, 14-15 year old division, Texas had 3 champs.
I think that you'd agree Spence and Fowler are at or near the top of their divisions in 2009. Throwing in an experienced Agha, Ybarra, and emerging Rincon.. I think his prediction isnt CRAZY, just a bit ambitious. Texas will definately be in contention of 3 or more titles..

Re: 2009 Texas State Champs
RingsideMike,
This year the Michigan GG's has the 2008 NGG champ at 119, the 2008 NGG semi-finalist at 201+, the 2008 NGG semi-finalist/2006 NGG finalist at 201, the 2008 Ringside finalist at 178, 2008 Ringside champ at 165, the 2008 Ringside champ/2007 NGG semi-finalist at 152, the 2008 NGG quarter-finalist at 152, the 2008 NGG quarter-finalist at 141, and the 2008 NGG quarter-finalist at 112, and the 2001 NGG semi-finalist at 106. I may have missed a few boxers with their qualifications too. With our list and your logic, we should have at least 3 NGG champs in 2009. I hope we do.
Now the reality, the 2007 NGG semi-finalist at 152 lost in the preliminary round of the West MI GG and he lost to a guy who has no national tournament qualifications.

You won't.
Rocky Mountain is going to be a significantly stronger team this year and it's on our home turf.
