Kevin Mitchell vs Roman Martiznez

Post by jigsaw »

Could Warren throw a suprise and finally give Mitchell a world title fight? I feel mitchell stops martinez imo. Kevin has been out for a year injured so I wonder weather he will go straight into this fight or has a warm up!

Mitchell will have some help, Paul Cook will have learned from some seeing his son get thrashed by the Puerto Rican :DDD

I dont think it will go ahead to be honest, it wont be Martinez's next defence anyway.

I just dont think it will be. Martinez will look for an US fight or maybe one back home in Puerto Rico. Even though Mitchell has fought in the US, I just can't see this fight happening

I didn't see the fight, but from reports I understood that Cook was actually dominating the fight? Until he got caught I mean

well it was pretty even really and Cook did land a really good shot in the 2nd I think. But Rocky demolished him and Cook had no chance when it was stopped.

I think mitchell is a class fighter my fav of the new breed....he has that fire and skill.
He gets overllooked sometimes by mainstream boxing media writers (no not u buncey), they like to focus on khan or the
Latest olympian.
Anyway I expect kev to be a world champ and would like to see him v khan at some point.
I think it will be a good battle for kev but he will be too much for martiznez

Mitchell won't become a true world champ, although he could get his hands on a lesser version at some point. He is good to watch and will certainly make a few quid, but I can't see him becoming truly top level.

Mitchell is very easy to hit, though has proved to have a world class chin

I am with the general consensus. If Cook can nearly knock Martinez over, then I believe Mitchell would stop him.

I think how many fights he's had recently and who he's fought has a lot to do with it.

unfortunately he has been injured, but I still expect he will ko martinez. I really believe that mitchell is englands best propect. at 24 he is well placed to make a move on the world scene. maybe we should get behind him ie press etc. imo mitchell is the one who will hold on to a world title and defend it successfully. he can punch in combinations has great power and can take a shot, never been on the deck amatuer or pro and can take a dig. mitchell to be world champ by end of 09? odds please

I wouldn't say Cook was dominating exactly but he was certainly having a decent fight. I don't know if demolished is the right word, somebody used above. Basically he got KO'd by a left uppercut almost , and when he got up he was properly KO'd by a left cross.
That Martinez must have a fair old crack on him because he did Cook with single shots, and you couldn't exactly say he was caught cold as it was the fourth I think.

If he hit Mitchell, who I'm a fan of, moreso after his great fight with Carl Johanneson , a fight I thought he would lose - like he hit Cook, then I could see it being difficult night.

Mitchell I sense has a better chin than Cook.

If a fight between Kevin and Martinez was mooted, who's to say Martinez wouldn't fancy it? After all that inactivity , it could be the perfect time to fight Mitchell...

Incidentally, does anybody know what Kevin's injury is?

Kevin sustained a snapped tendon in his hand and has had surgery to repair it. the injury was a long standing problem from many years ago. the surgery was a complete success and kevin has been back trainning for months now. unfortunately the cook loss has given Kevin an oppertunity to fight for the world title, a fight in which Kevin desperately wants even though he has been inactive, this has put the Foster fight in jepordy, but Kevin will honour his word and will give Foster the fight if he is successful in winning the wbo strap.

thanks for the info jigsaw :TU:

I like Foster I thought he out-did himself against Alex Arthur, a fight between him and Mitchell would be some scrap indeed.

so if mitchell is over hyped then what is khan, saunders, degale, gavin surely these kids are the future of british boxing. it frustrates me when we are so negative about young prospects. all young boxers have faults thats why khan went to america, and has improved. mitchell has proven he has a chin and can dig deep. mitchell has been ko out people since he was a kid, so the reason why I rate him so highly is I feel he has the necessary tools to become a champion, heart, chin, power, speed. only time will tell if im proven right or wrong, all I do say is lets get behind these kids.
