Ok here's a question, who did Barrera give the bigger spanking too, Hamed or Morales in their first fight. I go with Morales who got a viscous pasting and did land allot back but got beat far worse too. I also don't think it was particularly close I had Barrera winning 8-9 rounds and scoring a KD against Morales

Re: Hamed/Barrerra
A lot of people said Hamed lost the plot when he split from Ingle. I remember reading an interview with Ingle and he said Hamed just got ultra-arrogant (he was always arrogant) when he got near the top and no-one could tell him what to do. Hamed knew best and that was that. It ended with Hamed leaving Ingle - someone that many said had gotten the best out of his unorthodox style (although in many ways that is hard to quantify) - and Hamed became his own worst enemy.
In a sense you could say it was his personality that got him as high as he got, and also his personality that took him as low as he ended up. He had obvious talent, but perhaps much in the way that Tyson's raw aggression elevated his position, it may have been Hamed's cocky and slick style/attitude that elevated his own. Still, the sport would be a whole lot more boring without these characters. Oh wait... it is...

Re: Hamed/Barrerra
Hamed is the most exciting and entertaining fighter Ive ever watched - just brilliant and very funny. I do not agree with those that say Hamed could never have beaten Barerra, crazy comment - crazy comment to say about many fighters as firstly anything can happen in a fight. Secondly, Hamed was much more capable than his performance. As mentioned by many on here, his finest days were destroyed by his lack of training, his move away from Ingle, and by the deterioration in his motivation driven by the fact he was earning such good money.
It's a shame because he was so good to watch and I wish he had returned to boxing, but the fact he didnt return, for me personally, does not show that naz knew he was not capable (he was ultra capabale) but that he knew his motivation for the fighting game had gone - he'd been doing it, successfully, from a very early age.
Barrera beat Hamed resoundingly on points and it was plain to see Hamed's tactics were a mess, as was his corner. That said, this was no destruction, there were no knockdowns or knockouts and Naz certainly won rounds himself. My point being is that I am convinced Hamed could have performed much much greater on a different night with a different focus and preparation. I knew something was wrong as soon as he opted not to jump the rope - he looked nervous. Ego, arrogance and confidence were such a big part of his strategy - with it missing on the night, along with the excellent balance he needed in order to fight his unorthodox style, he was not the same fighter.
Anyway, just my opinion. Hamed provided so much entertainment and unfortunately I do not think there will ever be a fighter like him again. Still wish he'd come back now just to see his ring entrances and hear his post fight comments! For me, he is the most talented British fighter ever.

Touched a nerve? You thought it was glorious to watch an undertrained, unmotivated boxer get outpointed over 12 rounds? You need to get out more.
It's hardly Barrera's fault that Hamed was acting like a munchkin wannabe rapper in his only true step up in to world class. He got made to look a fool. I remember Hamed fans getting up and leaving in the 10th and 11th round. They knew the score.
Getting a scratch on your nose is hardly the same as having your head knocked about like some bobble-head doll.

I can't stand Naz, always wanted him to lose. But he has wins over McCullough, Paul Ingle, Steve Robinson - rugged world title holders in their primes. Add Medina, Kelly and Tom Johnson, seasoned world class performers. And guys with big reputations, Bungu, Vazquez, outstanding champs from smaller weights. He's beaten the fighters known on the British scene, the good international names too. That is major stuff.
Naz is a bit of a mystery. He beat those above guys, yet fared so poorly vs Barrera. It sort of makes you question everything that happened. But you can hardly take those wins away from him.
Re: Hamed/Barrerra
perhaps but I would be hard pressed to consider Barrera and Paul Ingle as in the same league
Also going back a couple of posts - it depends what you consider a spanking. Not a beat down but in terms of making a fighter look one dimensional, his second fight with Juarez comes to mind. Rather than go to war it was done totally behind the jab and a shut out.
For bad intent Morales 1.
The problem I had with Hamed was his arrogance. Other people thought it was funny, I didn't. I thought it very bad form to pose over someone you knocked down.

116-112 on the cards, right?
internet boxing fans, in general, are, without a shadow of a doubt, the biggest cretins on earth
Re: Hamed/Barrerra
since it's the internet how else to suppose we communicate?
not on my scorecard.
foolish? I think so, all the hype about knocking him out, the 'special' gloves, he got wobbled and grabbed the rope, several times got his head snapped back, leapt halfway across the ring only to be side stepped, every time he tried to get cheeky when holding or on break by clipping Barrera, Barrera gave it him back and finally armlocked him in to the ringpost. Post fight interview seemed to take the fact that he wasn't knocked out as victory.

mainly had barrera winning.
last time i scored it i had it even.
only the knockdown would have had it for barrera.
and we all know that knockdown was bull.
morales was definitely robbed in that 2nd fight.
rubbish decision.

Loads of Sparring partners flying through a door then pans to Naz in the Ring Shouting " Next "
Then we get hit with that shit on Fight night
Wish he has a few more fight after that but obviously he couyldnt be arsed

Morales was right to do it though, Velardez was a nasty f*cker before that fight. Just like Barrera calling him a filthy little indian and then sucker punching him at a press conference. One of the reasons why I always root against Barrera.

Worst sucker punch at a PC was Bowe on 1 of his tomato can defences when he should have been facing Lennox, think it was Fergusson

I thought it was Larry Donald who Bowe sucker punched, in fact I think it was an uppercut followed by a overhand right.Phenomenal-Nutrition wrote:MAB can be a bit naughtybanjo wrote:Morales was right to do it though, Velardez was a nasty f*cker before that fight. I can't see anything between their complexions either. What was the full story on that MAB has never seemed the bullyboy sort

I think Ingle, McCullough, and Robinson were a right handful - very good fighter. Vazquez and Bungu were terrific, and while they were old and up in weight they were still big names, etc etc.SLK wrote:perhaps but I would be hard pressed to consider Barrera and Paul Ingle as in the same league![]()

Naz seemed to become more and more of a prick, let his skills slide and got a rude awakening when MAB put on his 1st display of masterful boxing.
All that said, when Naz lost to Barrera, it was one of my happiest days as a schoolboy.
Re: Hamed/Barrerra
Barrera might not top any poll of the "greatest fighter of his generation" when he had superior guys like RJJ, Mayweather etc in there... but for me he was the "most complete" fighter.
Autobarn - I think it comes into the definition of the term "world class". For example, I see all those fighters you mentioned as World class, other posters might not. For example, I've had a debate with Terrence about whether Gatti should be called World class - I say yes, Terrence says no.
Now, whilst I think those fighters were world class - they were not in "Barrera" class.
If all of Joe's Calzaghe's defences were against Richie Woodhall, and then he got spanked by Hopkins or RJJ (closer to their prime) - that would be the situation Hamed was in. He fought very good B level fighters, but only 1 A level fighter. All the B level fighters he faced can be considered World class or even World champions, but the A level fighter is someone who could hold their own with anyone, from any era... If you want a definition maybe "All time great" class. Naturally, for them to be considered an A level fighter they've got to be in, or close to their prime... no way can RJJ mark 2008 be classed as one... Hopkins (2008)? closer to call.
As good as the other fighters Hamed faced were, they were never "all timers".

and that made him look foolish
ugh

Darkie put it well. "He's being made to look like a Saturday night drunk." Naz was carrying his chin too high, disregarding defence, and looking daft every time he took a flush shot.
