I don't fully agree, though I can see what you're saying.
Caballero is a unified champ and I'm sure he's eager to get a shot at Vazquez. I doubt he ever gets the fight - Vazquez has risked his health enough in these hard 122-pound title fights. If he can't get the fight, it's not his fault and he's done everything else - stopping IBF champ Molitor in Canada, stopping WBA champ Sithchatchawal in Thailand, outslugging a young Ponce de Leon in California.
I think CC deserves some recognition. Vazquez was a paper champ before he came good. He lost to Larios for the WBC title (great fight, by the way), won the vacant IBF belt, struggled to hold on to it (incl one suspect decision win), classed as the weakest of the champs. OK he got revenge on Larios, improved, but I think larios was fvcked from weight making and 2 wars with McCullough. This made Vazquez The Man, and he won on a cut as well, a cut partly caused by head clash. His 1st challenger was a former flyweight, and then the great fights (Gonzalez, Marquez 3x) had all come up from bantam (OK they were big bantams).
Im not trying to run down Vazquez, 1 of my fave fighters. He's shown awesome perseverence, took the risks at the right time, and it paid off. I think he earned a place in the HOF for his wars vs quality fighters. Don't reckon Israel fights at 122 again unless a very lucrative fight comes up. If Vazquez leaves, Caballero is the boss. I think for Caballero to win his big fights in the circumstances is pretty damn impressive.
