If you think that an easy defense then your wrong, Rendall was probably going to tread water with the EBU title until
Dunne won , now he will move swift to get Dunne in the ring who is the IMO the least dangerous champion @ 122
because munroe is limited dunne will destroy him . just wait and see , i cant wait for this fight to be made , ive said it all along munroe is limited but yous just cant see it for some reason

Well, Munroe beat the guy who destroyed Dunne..twice!

martinez is very limited fighter he was exposed against munroe . he got lucky against dunne , why couldnt dunne beat caballero . he just beat cordoba who easily beat caballero a few years ago
yeah, but Caballero went on to beat Ponce de Leon, Somsak Sitchatchawal, and Steve Molitor - all on hostile terrain. He got KO wins in Thailand and Canada. He showed that extra special quality when he fought on the road.

Whereas Cordoba was held to draws vs Sidorenko (Germany, twice) and was stopped by Dunne (Ireland). Cordoba hit a wall when he fought away from home, couldn't produce that extra thing to remove all doubt.

Caballero can beat the man (Dunne) who beat him (Cordoba). Then Cordoba won't matter.

Just like Dunne could beat the man (Munroe) who beat him (Martinez). Then Martinez won't matter.

In outlasting Ricardo Cordoba through an all out war which saw both men downed on multiple occasions Bernard Dunne walked away with a *portion of the WBA super-bantamweight title, in what just may have been one of the most thrilling fights ever staged on Irish soil. The home fighter’s victory completed a great day for sports in Ireland as it came mere hours after the Irish Rugby team had captured their first grand slam since 1948.

Dunne, who entered the bout as a sizable underdog with the book-makers was also making his first return to the sold out O2 Arena in Dublin, since his lone professional defeat there in August of 2007. On that night, when the venue was known as The Point, Dunne was dropped twice by Spain’s Kiko Martinez, and failed to make it out of the first round.

Perhaps the memory of the Martinez fight still lingered in Dunne’s mind, as he came out in the first round holding his gloves uncharacteristically high. The Panamanian southpaw also began cautiously, mainly using a range finding jab to try and set up his straight left.

this is a very credible first defence for Dunne.

Top 10 fighter.

European champ.

Grudge match, all that tit for tat stuff of recent.

2x wins over Martinez, the Martinez who starched Dunne.

If there's a better 1st title defence out there for Dunne, someone tell me.

Come on, do it for Britain
The last thing Dunne and Peters are interested in is "doing it for Britain", by the way, Dunne beating Munroe would not go anyway to avenging the Kiko Martinez loss.
Kiko got damn lucky against Dunne, Maloney and Munroe are now trying to exploit this by looking for the Dunne fight.
Dunne owes Munroe nothing.
If you agree with the following statement I will accept your take on Dunne/Martinez/Munroe, if not, do not ever use it that logic again in your posts if you want to be thought of as credible :

Cordoba beat Caballero, Dunne beat Cordoba = Dunne beats Caballero

Dunne doesn't have the chin for that guy. He won his title on pure heart and will lose it when someone hurts his whiskers.

Doesn't work like that, don't forget - Frazier beat Ali, Foreman smashed Frazier, so Foreman should have beaten Ali by that logic.

Yeah that logic works for me, so lets get the fight on and find out for certain. If the fight can't be made, fight Munroe. I don't see why it's such a big deal

That's my point!!! It does not work like that, so the next person to say, Martinez beat Dunne, Munroe beat Martinez, so that means Munroe beats Dunne is basically saying that they know F%*k all about boxing!!!

Exactly, Martinez got lucky, Dunne would beat him easily in a rematch.

rendall munroe is a big boy for his weight class. he walks people down and puts them out with power. dunne looked classy saturday and his conditioning for the first time in a long time looked spot on..he looked strong and proved it by showing power...somthing which i didnt believe he was overly blessed with.

im irish and proud to see dunne winning this title but again it is a portion of the wba title ... a great point made about beating a quality prime fighter like cordoba rather than the cooks/macerinelli's beating nobodies for warren boxing organisation titles. dunne achievement wins hands down, especially with how he did it.

i think dunne will leave the munroe fight off for another 2 fights and then take him on before maybe looking for cabellero. he deserves some bigger paydays.

also dont forget bernard sparred isreal vasquez regularly when in america. he isnt green to that quality of boxer.granted sparring is sparring....

realistically i dont know how long he can hang on to his title but its going to be alot of fun watching him try.

and that's the magic of boxing.

all the best bernard.

I was joking about doing it for Britain.

If Dunne beat Munroe, it would certainly put Martinez behind him. Martinez has been devalued by Munroe, is a possible weight making liability (McCullough fight).

I can't see Dunne being put in with a guy who sparked him, I just can't see it. What if it happened again. One shot is all it takes. Maybe Martinez just has his number. Munroe certainly ISN'T going to stop Dunne in a round. Munroe - big, strong, good stamina and toughness at the weight - would have to grind out the win; if he were to win it'd be hard and drawn out.

I don't see Kahn ever fighting Prescott again. But if, say, John Murray were to beat Prescott (ok that fight's not happening now), I'll bet Warren would be making offers to Murray. But maybe not, maybe beating Barrera is enough, maybe Dunne beating Cordoba is enough.

No Dunne beating Munroe would not devalue the loss to Kiko Martinez, Munroe is a boxer, Martinez is a brawler. That is flawed logic, but a logic Maloney, Munroe and a few of his fans would love people to believe. Just because Munroe beat Martinez this does not mean Dunne and Munroe have unfinished business.
When Dunne lost his EBU title and Munroe beat Matinez to claim the title, everyone jumped on the bandwagon trying to bait Dunne with the Martinez angle but when push came to shove, Munroe would not fight Dunne.
Out of the three Dunne was the only one to step up and take the Cordoba fight so as far as I am concerned this devalues both Martinez and Munroe as possible opponents for Dunne.
He should go on to bigger and better things in his career.

According to today's Irish Sun Cordoba is blaming too many people in his corner for his loss and claims they were giving him the wrong advice throughout the bout.

knowitall - no it's not flawed logic.

everyone you don't agree with don't have to be desperate munroe fans, who need munroe to get a shot. i don't even like watching munroe, to be honest.

martinez will always be a massive blemish. martinez is a forgotten man now. he couldn't make weight for mccullough, he lost 2x to munroe.

dunne fighting a past it martinez won't mean too much. it would help bury that episode.

and above all it's a great subplot to fuel the hype for dunne-munroe. it's an angle to make more and more ppl go to see dunne fight. it's a decent fight that could get built up into a big one.

but i'd just as soon watch dunne v poonsawat. a proven world class fighter.

Dunne does not need hype to get get people to go see him fight, Munroe does.
Why should Dunne do him any favours? Like I said Dunne owes Munroe nothing, I too would prefer to see Dunne fight Poonsawat or even Lontchi over Munroe.
Let me tell you, if Dunne had lost to Cordoba, the door to a European title would be slammed shut by Maloney and Munroe and he would be on the end of even more ridicule from them, so why on earth should Dunne and Peters even give them a sniff of a world title shot.
I am a fan and I don't need Frank Maloney telling me what the fans want to see, the majority of Irish people do not know who Rendall Munroe is nevermind caring if he fights Dunne.
It's time for Maloney and Munroe to go make their own breaks, take their own risks and stop using Dunne as a tool for publicity.

Dunne certainly shut me up, I thought he was going to get completely outclassed. From what I’ve heard Dunne was giving a good account of himself but was losing until Cordoba punched himself out. Sounds like it was a brilliant contest, hopefully Dunne will make a few title defences, make some money and give the Irish fans some good nights, I doubt his chin would hold up against Caballero, Lopez or Vazquez though.

Dunne’s success certainly makes me feel more optimistic about Amir Khan’s chances.

I would love to see Dunne fight Munroe.

again, Munroe took a chance to fight Martinez, and then beat him again. It does look like Munroe is stuck in the middle though - ie not ready for world title (according to Maloney last week), and potentially looking downward to Commonwealth title. So yes, it looks like he could use a break, getting that Dunne fight.

I hope Dunne enjoys his title cos it's doubtful he has it long. While Dunne was quality last weekend, he looks like an absolute skeleton. If I was supporting Dunne, I would hope to see him move up to featherweight and use his marketability to attract one of the featherweight champs, fairly soon.

It would be a shame if he got KO'd again, after coming so far.
