You've got to love ole Wayne McCullough, never one to look a gift horse in the mouth, the veteran is trying to use the leverage of shared nationality to persuade Bernard Dunne to fight him next - of course Wayne doesn't have any claim to a shot but he does always find a way to get another one doesn't he? Wayne would probably give Dunne a good argument, but his ability to take shots and not be felled is not a positive if Dunne gets on top. I still cringe when I think of Wayne tackling giant Feather Scott Harrison and getting totally brutalised for 12 rounds.

The Scott Harrison fight was terrible.I remember round 8 being particularly bad, or maybe I just wanted the ref to stop it there and then.

He's got no business being in a ring any more.It seems to me that a lot of fighters at the top who fight so hard to always win, when they do lose a couple they just sort of except it and don't care if they get beat any more and take a win soem lose some attitude.Roy Jones has done the same thing of late.

Wayne has been through many wars in his career and probably should retire.
Having said that this fight may yet happen , he is right when he says it would be the biggest fight this country has ever seen.
It could be hosted in one of the outdoor stadiums. it would generate unbelievable publicity because mccullough is a huge name in Ireland and everyone loves a comeback. It would be a fight that would split opinions , I can already think of those who are just waiting for dune to get koed.

David, I'm trying to start wild rumours here. A little help, please?

Anyway, I think it makes commercial sense, and cCulloch is always trying to leverage his way in to the scene without going to Foreman route of rebuilding.

If he wants to get back to the bigtime, Dunne would seem like an attractive option for several reasons.

If Dunne wants to cash in on the support and coverage he will have gathered after last week's thriller, McCulloch seems a good option for several reasons.

Where else is there for Dunne to go? Rafael Marquez? Israel Vasquez? Celestino Caballero? Those guys are killers, and would be massive favourites against Dunne, who, for my money, does nothing spectacularly well, and has an air of fragility about him -- despite the crushing late rounds punching of last time.

So where else is there for him to go? I'm damn sure they're not going to put him in with the murderers row at the genuine top of the division. Even below that, 122 is one of the hottest divisions with Molitor, Ponce De Leon and Jhonny Gonzalez. Have I missed anyone? How will they progress Dunne?

Suffice to say I've totally changed my view on this, the fight wont happen. I'd assume Dunne is now Caballero's mandatory but who the fkk knows with the WBA?

The way Caballero walked through Molitor would make me think twice about putting Dunne in the same ring so soon after his big win. Surely they'll want to cash in first. The WBA have shown plently of malleability in terms of letting super champs, interim champs and normal champs all fight on withut too much pressure to clarify the situation by fighting eachother. Dunne is a big draw in Ireland now, which means big sanction fees for them. I suspect that if Dunnes people play it right, there'll be no pressure to fight Caballero.

OK, so Dunne's people don't seem so keen on McCullogh now. But that's how negotiation works, right? You try to talk down the price your opponent wants.

Of course, they could bring David Haye in to negotiate for Dunne. Haye would say before even contacting McCullogh is the only opponent in the world Dunne will fight is McCullogh, and, indeed, Dunne needs McCullogh to gain credibilty in the eyes of Irish fans. That way, McCullogh will be in the driving seat and will be able to demand 10 times his usual rate.

Or, they could play it cagy and say "well, McCullogh is a long way from a shot at Dunne. We have so many different options."

Yeah, right, McCullogh is only as far away from Dunne as dropping sufficiently in price.

It's the same as football transfers: tell the world that you want rid of Ronaldinho, and his price plummets. Make public statements that there is no way Andrei Shevchenko is moving to Chelsea and you force the suiters to pay a king's ransom.
