It will be full of w*nkers who no nothing about boxing and who believe that it will be for the P4P title, so for that reason I will definitely not be going.

that is always a problem going to a Hatton fight because he attracts a lot of casual boxing fans. I have never been to Vegas and have wanted to for long while but i think i will look maybe look at a fight not involving a UK fighter because i know will enjoy it more.

There is nothing more depressing than walking through the MGM Grand and all the bars are full of people wearing football shirts. However, it's not the case with all British boxers. The Calzaghe crowd that went last April tended to be a bit older and there was a really nice atmosphere of people going for the experience, not people trying to take the place over and "be heard". Best week I ever went for was De La Hoya-Mayweather, but a big Mexican fight is always good.

That is middle class snobbery in reference to your depression at seeing football shirt fans. Do boxing purists only have a right to go and watch Hatton. If you don't like going nobody is forcing you.

I don't know if that was a dig at me but I have just had a look at your site and there was some good stuff on it. :TU:

I doubt many middle calss people follow boxing. I think is what he ment was that they are a loud bunch of idiots who may or may not look for trouble. You only ever notice them in big groups, get them in 2-3's and they shit themselves.

Why is that middle class snobbery? Don't middle class people go to football? And do you even know what class I am? I'd be in the wrong business if I looked down on working class people.

There were lots of tales I heard of people who, when England didn't qualify for Euro 2008, decided to go to Vegas for the Mayweather fight instead. Believe it or not, as people in most cities in Europe could tell you, being stuck in a bar with 500 noisy and aggressive sounding football fans is not many people's idea of a nice night out.

Having seen all the bars "taken over" at a place like the MGM Grand, prior to the Mayweather fight, having been there when the Brit "fans" booed the US national anthem, having experienced the normally hugely helpful and polite staff being rude to you when they discover you are British, having been to a John Murray fight at the MGM Grand which was attended by about 200 of the 50,000 Brits said to be in Vegas, having seen the normally low key security become really visible, I have as much right to my opinion as you.

It's nothing to do with class, and your inverse snobbery says plenty. When I to see the Scott Hayward-Dean Harrison fight in Nottingham which kicked off in the bar when half were wearing Wolves gear and half Derby County gear, I found that depressing too. Introducing football rivalry into boxing always works badly. Indeed after a riot in Rotherham a few years ago saw a bill scrapped, there was talk of football shirts being banned at boxing venues, just like at pubs which say "no colours".

It won't be the same for Hatton-Pacquiao, because the majority of people who travel will be wanting to go to watch the boxing, not for a mass rowdy party.

Seconded, Cotto Margarito was good as well. I'm gonna be going over from Manchester but supporting Pacquiao.
I don't think ticket sales have been as impressive as before with tickets still on sale now.

Well I'm going.

I think RLewis' observations are, sadly, spot on. I've been to over 20 big Vegas fight cards and I've never been so embarassed to be British than at Hatton v Mayweather (I was in the 8th row, I maintain even Hatton was embarassed when they booed the Star Spangled Banner).

The Calzaghe/Hopkins fight had an utterly different type of visitor - I guess a Welsh boxing/rugby fan as opposed to a Man City/Hatton fan - that is not meant to be snobbish, merely factual. The bars beforehand had a completely different vibe, and Vegas loved that. One amusing aside, I met two old boys in the Planet Hollywood bar afterwards, they were saying how they had met Roy Jones and how polite he was. One of them, must have been at least 70, simply said "You don't get that in Port Talbot"

Best atmosphere I've ever experienced in Vegas was Barrera v Morales I. What a night. (I was a single man then and the quality of the lady I pulled that night may influence my judgement...)

Fair enough mate, and no one is denying you an opinion but in your initial post you stated that it was football shirts in bars you didn't approve of, not the aggressive nature of their behaviour or I wear a football shirt sometimes in a pub or abroad, but that doesn't make me some kind of meathead up for a row and to often.

Of course there is no problem wearing a football shirt, as for many it is a sign of local identity. However, there is a difference between some guys wearing a football shirt and 300 people in a bar all wearing football shirts. It also showed a change in atmosphere from boxing audience to football crowd.

Nah, I'm going to Froch-Taylor instead. As some of you other chaps have said the atmosphere in vegas for Hatton fights is too meathead for my liking (I went to Castillo at the Thomas & Mack).

The Hatton camp blatantly skimming extra cash by passing tickets to agents put me off lining their pockets anymore. I'll buy the PPV, but no more Hatton fights live for me.

Nope - I got to see my boxin' Legend last week, Barrera.

More of a Travel lodge central and the M.E.N. man than Vegas at the moment.

I hope Frochy keeps his belt, I would like to see him in Nottingham again, went versus Tatevosyan, quality.

Can someone advise me of the date of this fight, where, what channel if it's no trouble, or just the date would be good.

excellent post mate. i followed Harrison from the beginning and it was always a matter of time before his fans ended up causing aggro. i've heard a load of ignorant abusive and racist shite from them

fortunatley as someone else says they are basically cowards. during Eastman - Ashira, ONE bloke shut all 40 or so of them up, as soon as they got challenged they collectively dropped their bottle.

I think they're banned (football shirts) at the Odyssey in Belfast where DeGale and the others are on.

heh, t'other day i started a 'ban alcohol in boxing?' thread which i expected to see greeted with howls of protest but seemed to go down well. now we're talking about no football shirts. excellent. hopefully before too long the only people turning up to boxing will be anoraks like us who can spend all night sharing 500 seats between 5 of us and discussing whether peak Sibon beats peak Benn or not

It's always puzzled me why people turn up to boxing events in football shirts, same when I'm out on a saturday night in town, most places won't let you in anyway.

It's a bit strange for grown men to be wearing replica football shirts under any circumstances, unless they're playing football.

I wear them a lot. They are comfy, feel nice and dry quickly. I am no hooligan.
Ditto.
