He can talk up a rematch though, nobody sells a rematch like Don.

Dooley is right. That fight should have been stopped.

Further, commentators who argued that the fight was going just the same way before the cut are defending the absurd. To extrapolate the first two minutes of a fight over twelve rounds is so ridiculous it doesn't bear mentioning.

That said, I did think Khan looked better. But only looked. The proof remains undelivered.

But the fight was a farce, and Dooley rightly says we would be screaming blue murder if it had happned to a Brit elsewhere.

I think that is a fair point. When it became clear the cut could not be stopped (round 3-4) it should have been stopped. But Khan did show improvements, most importantly he showed a cool head when Barrera got cut. I find it sad that some on here can't bring themselves to acknowledge that.

I think we're reaching a bit when we make statements like "Khan kept his cool when the cut happened" - YEH, to the other fella.

Hardly a bloody test of character or chin is it?

The fight should have been stopped, but why didn't he and Barrera's corner kick off when the cut happened and add pressure on Dave Parris and the doctor. If the same had happened to Khan his corner and promoter would have been on the ref's case.

Smells to me like a ploy to keep Barrera's ranking as WBO no 1 contender.

Quite right.

I was at the Miranda bill last week, one of the undercard fights saw a clash of heads in the first, the resulting cut was nowhere near as bad as Barrera (but still awful) and it was stopped in the third.

that they let this continue to the 5th is inexplicable, unless you're a cynic, which I am.

Heard about that. Was that Scott Woolford. If it was the referee went to corner after 2 and told Woolford he'd give him one more minute in the third and stop it, which he did.

I said it the moment I saw the cut after the first.

I was watchin the fight with a couple of mates that like boxing but wouldnt know the rules - as soon as the head clash was shown I said to them I bet this is stopped in the 5th round - they said no way and I bet them £10 each at 2/1 odds that it would.

The didnt know that it would be a NC if it was stopped before the end of the fourth and also that FW wouldnt want it to go on past the fifth in case Barrera got luck and actually connected with a punch.

Low and behold a 5th round stoppage and a big fat W on Khants record.

Cynical, obvious and a disgusting!

can you blame king for his outrage. imean if MAB did not have that cut. the match would have gone 12 rounds. i cant see rematch going ahead. you think warren is that stupid to let khan in the ring with MAB again. i dont think khan would want that either.I just think MAB was robbed.

I think Khan was impressive but agree that the win is a bit tainted so yes, I'd like to see a rematch too. I'd prefer him to get back in with Prescott first though.

Yes that's right. I was impressed by the ref took charge. Think it was Ken Curtis for that one, he didn't wait for the doctor, he just took it into his own hands. That's how it should be.

Seeing that fight made me realise just how terrible the decision was to allow Barrera to continue whilst hindered by a horrific cut. It would have been in my write-up actually, but didn't get it in in time, after pouring tea over my laptop and knackering it.

Talked to his opponent after the fight (Craig Watson? I think it was), and he said the cut was so bad that he didn't want to have to keep on hitting him, and was glad the ref stepped in to stop it. I said something along the lines of 'yeah mate, but you've got to keep hitting him until someone tells you to stop' he found that quite funny.

Khan was going to win anyway - but who knows - he could have got tagged later as Khant faded. I wouldnt like to see a rematch.

I just thought it was so blatant.

The doctor looked at the cut in the fourth round and it was bad - one of my mates described it as "looking like a pussy", says a lot about him really - and the doctor let him fight on.

The doctor looked at the cut again in the fifth round and it was just as bad, no worse but still "looking like a pussy" - but the doctor stopped the fight.

Why? What was the difference between the cut in the fourth and the fifth the made the doctor change his mind?

The fight should have been stopped in the third. It never got any better after the first round. It was huge, it was absolutely gushing blood and it was clearly impairing Barreras vision.

The Doctor's decision was lamentable at best.

Of course the fight should have been stopped before the fifth. It should have been stopped in the second round when the extent of the cut was known. The No Contest decision would not have gone down to well and that is the reason they let it go on.

Who knows who would have won the fight without the cut. Surem Khan looked slick, but he was not really hurting Barrera that much with his assaults (at least it didn`t look like it)

Get them in again. Get it sorted once and for all.

Well, look at Khan's previous mad moments where he rushes in and watch Herol Graham-Julian Jackson to see what can go wrong.

True. But I dont think we should potray it as sort of gut check or assessment of his development. Not Khan's fault but hey life's a bitch.

I actually don't think either Warren or King would want a rematch. Although I think Barrera could have won, he did look seriously slow against Khan, and wouldn't discount the fact that he might never have gotten near Khan and lost a decision, or even been stopped by the ref whilst under fire, even if not actually hurt.

King just wants the loss expunged from the record (and for me this would be a just decision), so he can recycle Barrera for one last title shot.

I don't think Warren is going to let Khan anywhere near a rematch - it was a high risk bit of matchmaking, and there's no way Warren is going to repeat the risk when he can get just Khan in place for a shot at the WBO title.

Perhaps if Barrera gets a shot and wins the lightweight title through another sanctioning body, then we might see a unification, but otherwise, why bother?

What if the WBO sanctioned it for the vacant title? Bit odd that King waited 2 weeks before kicking off. Khan would be overwhelming favourite for a rematch, so I don't think Warren would be too worried. Would the public buy a rematch, though?

We need a rematch or we will have Team Kahn and Warren going on about it for the next 5 years trying to rewrite history, The fight proved nothing Kahn can not be given any credit for the win the fight was over before it began.
