Arnold Invitational

Post by Glovedup »

Did anyone go to this? I heard there were a few fighters out there that were open.

How did this event turn out?

What is organized and successful?

I took nine boxers with me and five of them did not get bouts and one of the four that did I had to move him up to get a bout. It was very unorganized. There is just too much going on at once. Between the karate, mma, wrestling, weightlifting, fencing, table tennis, cheerleading, gymnastics, strogest man competitions, kickboxing, muay-tai, and autograph signing there is not much room for the boxing. There were a few good boxers there from las vegas, team couture, but most of the competitors were from Ohio area.

There were a total of 115 entries, 21 were unopposed champions; they had 58 bouts in two days.

Or Nationals now that they've put JOs and Seniors together.

The US Championships, Women's Championships AND JO Championships are all being held in Denver at the same time this year. I have no idea how they are going to schedule the JOs.

I boxed in the tournament, along with 4 other people from our club. I was supposed to get 2 fights but my opponent didn't make weight for the second day. Two others from our club got two fights and the other two got one fight. It was hectic. They had boxing, several types of martial arts, kickboxing and a bunch of people throwing kettlebells around in the same hall. There was standing room only. We were lucky enough to find an employee locker room in the back where we hid out to avoid all of the commotion out on the floor. We communicated with people via cell phone and only left when it was time for us to box. Security tried to run us out but we stayed there and they never came back to make sure we left. Overall I think it was a great experience though. I would recommend it to anyone. The people running the boxing tournament were great.

Ringside was 1000% more organized than Arnold's. At Arnold's, boxing is just a novelty and it isn't organized by anyone with a boxing background. Ringside had ten times more entries and only 29 unopposed champions. My 5th or 6th year going and never really encountered any logistical problems, which really leads me to believe that any issues due to "unorganization" really originate with participants.

According to fact sheet, Men will compete 6/8 - 6/12 with final on 6/13. Women 6/8-6/11 with final on 6/12. JOs will be 6/8 - 6/10 with final on 6/11.

I've heard that at the JOs last year a lot of top officials were not there because of USAs and GGs. I think that combining JOs and USA will help ensure that the best officials are available - especially for finals being on different dates. Sometimes other committments, jobs, costs prohibit top officials from going to both JOs and USA in the past. I think this is much better. I don't have any boxers competing, but I may go out for 4 days or so.

DC - good point about the officials. Having it combined helps saves money for the coaches too.

At least the Ringside and Nationals are all about boxing. The Arnold is about fitness in general. I would rather watch tons of boxing matches than watch fencing and "ping pong", oh im sorry table tennis, please dont make that mistake. Another plus to Ringside is that everyone you bring will get a match and if they win they get nice awards not a medal that falls apart as soon as the boxer leaves the ring. The entry fee for the Arnold was also too high. $20.00 and no refund for unapposed boxers. They also took over one hour intermissions on each day.

Does anyone know where the results from the Arnold can be found? I've tried for the past two years to contact the PR guy there but never even get a reply.

I have the last two years of Arnold champions and unopposed, but no daily results. Email me at [email protected] and I'll send you what I have.

Is the Arnold Invitational better than Title's Desert Showdown?

I have never been to the Arnold, but I took my team to the Desert Showdown and I can tell you this, they run 3 rings, the first night of competition was a Wednesday, and there was about 32-33 matches per ring that night. On Thursday, there was 50 matches per ring.Friday there was about 25 per ring and Saturday I can't recall. But if your looking for a tournament that's ran good, has good competition, and overall is good for your boxers,Ralph Romero's Desert Showdown is a very good tournament

I liked the Way Desert Showdown was ran except for that we faught for his BCR title then Right after someone faught for the same title in the Same Weight! When we called to try to set up a unifying match no answer. :(

I'm pretty sure this year you'll have slot of boxers in that weight class to box with, more would rather be in the tournament, advancing and getting more fights than just fight once on Saturday night for the BCR title

We faught in the tournament the year before, and this year were decided to do something different and go out east to the Ringside tournament instead. The main reason we originally went down was to see how we'd pair up to the so cal fighter stereo type and basically found it the same as up north.

To my knowledge, there has never been a unification or defense of a "BCR" belt. And there never will be.
