thought he was a good prospect, won a wbu title lost earlier on to sam soliman what happened to him thought he could of done something more...he was good

i sparred with him once it wasnt heavy i just needed a southpaw but fook me he was good id say he would of beat calzaghe he used to put kessler in all sorts of trouble and he was a very nice fellaG0mez wrote:He still spars though I believe.

No disrespect fella, but someone who loses to Sam Soliman is never going to beat Calzaghe. I think some people on here still consistently underestimate Calzaghe and how good he actually was.

thanx for the responses... deserter ...i agree with you regard calzaghe but sam soliman was as slippery as an eel and would make many a top class fighter,including calzaghe not look his best.Erik fought him over 8 rounds in scotland and lost on points, probably wrong choice of opponent at that time of his career.
shame it ended early for erik, he would of certainly figured in the mix if he'd of got the opportunities

I think Teymour tipped Froch over Kessler if they fought.

The story i heard was Teymour didnt have hepatitis but something similar. A top professor in the subject said he was ok to box but the board doctor disagreed. If Erik and his team had a load of money to throw at legal costs he could have probably fought on. As it was he didnt and consequently never fought again.
The whole legal saga with the board just drained Eriks enthusiasm for the game.. too many cancelled dates... you can fight/you cant fight blah blah blah..... his head just wasn't in it anymore.
Whilst saying he would beat Calzaghe does seem a little far fetched, Erik was damn good. The Soliman loss was in his 6th fight, not many pros would beat Sam Soliman in their 6th fight (if ever) and i think Erik killed himself to get down to middle in that one, which on reflection was silly..... he had never fought 8 rounds before and went in weight drained against a machine like Soliman.
He was certainly capable of a European title (EBU) and I think with the element of luck you always need, could have been a world champion too.
His Amateur record was superb, although, boxing with the great Lebziak as a team mate, he never got a chance to fight in the big tournaments.
He did however have a number of big name wins on his amateur log... he beat Romanchuk, Brudov and Lebedev to name 3.
