CSAC Suspends All Amateur Boxing in California
Re: CSAC Suspends All Amateur Boxing in California
The CSAC also wants all the LBC presidents fingerprinted and submitting passport type pictures.
Re: CSAC Suspends All Amateur Boxing in California
This is a joke,the CSAC is now exploiting amateur kids!They're just as bad as Robert Salinas and Ramona Gatto!Don't these idiots know most shows don't make money,I know the $1,000 bond is a one time fee for the whole year paid by the promoter(the LBC),but how are clubs going to pay $250 for the show,then an isurance fee,the kick back 5% to the CSAS Mafia!Now what hasn't been resolved is that if these fees must be paid then must fees still be paid to USA Boxing on top of the Mafia's fees?Also are they going to have someone watching the door at our shows making sure they get a take of the door?I'll just do presales so they don't know shit!
Re: CSAC Suspends All Amateur Boxing in California
If the State commission is really only looking out for the ATHLETE and not themselves, Why not give all the fees they propose and percent of the gate TO THE BOXERS!! They can use it.They need money for expenses and travel.They are the ones in the ring!! Make the promoter or host give a percent to them. HOW? USA BOXING TRUST FUND in the boxer's name!! When they get or renew their passbook open a trust acount at the same time.!!!Anyone not paying up is reported and suspended!! If these private clubs were dumping thousands into the athlete's trust funds instead of someome (like Sonny's) pockets wouldn't that be a better solution? Wouldn't the athletes,familiies and trainers feel that their athlete was not taken for granted?? College athletes get per diem.They get equipment,transportation,paid tutors,etc. Why not a USA boxer? Just a thought.
Re: CSAC Suspends All Amateur Boxing in California
College athletes also earn millions for their college and their head coaches earn several million dollars per year. I'll bet that Sonny doesn't earn anything close to those numbers. Why is it wrong for a boxing coach to earn a salary of say $50,000 a year? Most earn zero.JimG wrote:If the State commission is really only looking out for the ATHLETE and not themselves, Why not give all the fees they propose and percent of the gate TO THE BOXERS!! Re: CSAC Suspends All Amateur Boxing in California
THANKS FOR THE REPLY MEL. THIS IS EXTREMELY RIDICULOUS I KNOW MOST CLUBS BARELY MAKE IT ON TOP OF THAT THEY WANT $1,250 PLUS A PERCENTAGE & INSURANCE FEE......COME ON NOW. THATS GOING ALITTLE OVER BOARD. AND THATS JUST FOR THE CSAC. NOT TO MENTION OTHER FEES FROM USA BOXING SANCTION & OFFICIAL FEE'S E.T.C IF ALL THIS GOES THROUGH I'M SURE THERE WILL BE A LOT LESS SHOWS HERE IN CALIFORNIA.
SINCE THIER ALLOWING TOURNAMENTS THAT WERE SCHEDULED BEFORE APRIL 13-14 DOES THIS MEAN AS LONG AS THESE FEE'S ARE PAID THAT THE SO. CAL JUNIOR OLYMPICS & THE STATE GOLDEN GLOVES CAN STILL GO ON.

A decision will be made as to if and when it is rescheduled based on the outcome. At this point, the CSAC wants a $1000 bond and $250 promoters fee to put on the event and the general feeling is that the CSAC is extorting monies for its benefit. How many clubs do we know who can fork out that kind of money, especially when they don't make any on the event?FROM THE LOOKS OF IT I GUESS THE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA JUNIOR OLYMPICS WILL BE PUT ON HOLD!!! ANY WORD ON IT'S PROSPONED DATE OR IF THERE'S EVEN A NEW DATE

Re: CSAC Suspends All Amateur Boxing in California
Dennis, Sonny is not a trainer anymore and has NO fighters.He just promotes at PRIVATE shows (which reportedly he was paid in upwards of $20,000 Just for one of them) He does treat his boxing participants well.Food and some freebies for the athlete.I have been to event that has been discussed in the news.I paid for dinner and brought my wife.It was a madmax atmosphere with many spectators screaming for blood. My son is an adult.But if he was a kid or teenager it would not have been a good atmosphere. This show and one other are the reason all this is going on in California.So if a trainer makes money sure.Why not.But at this time everyone is trying to figure out what's good for the Athlete.The trust fund should be set up for each fighter.Funds could be used for travel and expenses as deemed fit.

Re: CSAC Suspends All Amateur Boxing in California
Hi Everyone,
Discussing this whole California State Athletic Commission order to cease amateur boxing can really get our blood flowing, but it really is not helping to get the young boxers back in the ring where they belong. Maybe if we invested some of our internet writing time to putting together a couple of letters and either mailing, emailing or faxing those letters to those in the right positions to maybe do something to get the bell ringing again
The Los Angeles Board of Supervisors and their fax numbers are
Gloria Molina (213) 613-1739
Mark Thomas (213) 680-3283
Zev Yaroslavsky (213) 625-7360
Don Knabe ( a real boxing fan !!) (213) 626-6941
Michael Antonovich (213) 974-1010
Also I was advised that maybe the California State Legislators. Those in California will have to figure out who is your representative. The link below will take
you to where you can type in your address. It will then tell you who that legislator is and how to contact them.
You can also look up Gov Schwarzenegger and email your thoughts to him and his staff.
Come on eveyone. Its not like we dont know how to write.
Maybe it will not help but at least we just didnt take a dive and give up.
Your thoughts?

So no possibility of state till after the hearing?
Re: CSAC Suspends All Amateur Boxing in California
As far as I know, ALL amateur boxing in California is suspended until April 13th - unless, of course, NorCal wants to ante up to the CSAC's demands.....and I don't think they do.

Re: CSAC Suspends All Amateur Boxing in California
I agree that this is for the boxers,%100! But also,if I have issue with the way anyone on the board,that we elected,is not doing their job,I will speak up.This is America,also most clubs do not stay informed and by speaking up and emailing information they might realize that things affect all of us.So let's not worry cause our boxer is not fighting in the State GG cause of this mess,let's worry about cleaning this mess as an LBC,and let's worry about bringing back ALL the shows in California!
Re: CSAC Suspends All Amateur Boxing in California
Does anyone have info on the State Athletic Commission meeting today?I'm wondering if they resolved the issues so shows can resume again
Re: CSAC Suspends All Amateur Boxing in California
To make a very long afternoon short - the CSAC attorney (who is a dumb blond) brought the following recommendations to be voted on:
1. Additional officials in dressing rooms during every event;
2. An ambulance at every event (approx. cost of $100 per hour);
3. Livescan background checks (total criminal record, not just sex offenders as is now required);
4. No fee to file a grievance and the grievance must also be filed with CSAC and USAB;
5. Extensive training of officials and the training attended by inspectors;
6. Inspectors assigned to every event to monitor the event, and
7. A computerized data base of all athletes and their records in order to prevent mismatches.
Jim Millman, USA Boxing CEO, and the USAB attorney asked that a task force be put together to discuss the above rather than automatically adopt the above without USAB having any say or recourse. Jim Millman and the attorneys took a one hour recess and came back with the following:
A task force of members from the CSAC and USAB will assess all recommendations and areas of concern and submit a joint report of recommendations to be acted upon at the June CSAC meeting. The suspension has been lifted as of today and until the June meeting - a two month period where events can again be scheduled - with the following stipulations:
1. Every event must be submitted to the CSAC office in Sacramento so an inspector can be assigned to monitor said event;
2. Dr. Wallace, the head of the CSAC physicians, spoke up and said that he did not feel it was necessary to have an ambulance at every event and that was agreed upon.
3. Millman stated that he would lower the grievance fee and a copy of any grievances filed would be sent to the CSAC.
4. Accountability for training is a top priority.
My only concern with the inspectors monitoring is that they do just that - monitor and not interfer. Some years ago, in the 90's, we were also under this type of scrutiny and the inspectors ended up interferring with our officials, i.e., trying to overturn RSCH's that were imposed by our referees and arbitrarily putting restrictions on boxers who didn't need them. They do not know our rules and they do not know anything about amateur boxing and when they start sticking their noses in, problems happen.
Anyway, that's my short report.

2. Ok, they do this at a lot of amateur sports. I'll give them that one, but on who's dime? USAB Insurance should pick this one up as it's a great preventative measure.
3. Again, why? What are they going to do with the extra info. Sex offenders it's clear are prohibited like in many sports, but do they plan on extending the list of prohibited offenses for coaching/officiating?s
4. Ok, that's good, but be ready for the much higher number of filings.
5. Ok, great, but what are the inspectors qualifications.
6. Same as #5.
7. Ok, but who is paying for this and when will it be referenced? At weigh-ins where many of the matches are made? Computer and internet access now needed at weigh-ins?
What does any of this have to do with the issues at hand that started this? What exactly are the inspectors inspecting? Gambling? Drinking at matches? Scantily clad ring card girls?
Mismatches based on what- records? So, they plan on taking away the coaches ability to coach and select matches that are appropriate for their boxers?
Can't wait to see what committee comes up with . . .
Re: CSAC Suspends All Amateur Boxing in California
Are you questioning the CSAC's original recommendations (which are ludicrous) or what was actually decided upon for the next two months? I think I answered the recommendations list with the agreed upon list - didn't I? :??

Both really. It's just a difficult situation when decisions are made and rules put in place that allow too much room for interpretation (i.e. inspectors). I don't even like the title itself. I hope it all works out for the better and just puts amateur boxing in CA back into the hands of the actual people who have been so involved up to this point. Good luck.boxmel wrote:Are you questioning the CSAC's original recommendations (which are ludicrous) or what was actually decided upon for the next two months? I thought your post "questions" were probably more comments than you actually looking for answers.Both really.
That's what happened last time. People who didn't have a clue about our rules were making arbitrary decisions - trying to remove H's, putting on their own, reading the rule book and using as a power tool. It was absolutely awful!It's just a difficult situation when decisions are made and rules put in place that allow too much room for interpretation (i.e. inspectors). Me, too. And we'll need all the luck we can get.I hope it all works out for the better and just puts amateur boxing in CA back into the hands of the actual people who have been so involved up to this point. Good luck.

Good luck Mel. What a mess!!! I hope the recommendations are for the CSAC to just step back and let amateur boxing move on in CA.

Damn, wut a mess! While we're at it, too bad we can't negotiate with USAB to change the sorry scoring system!
