Gomez-Burns.....Great Bet
Skybet have Gomez-Burns at evens not to go to the scoreboards, considering Gomez hasn't done 12 rnds for 9yrs and is likely to go at it hammer & tongs this could be a bit of value.
Re: Gomez-Burns.....Great Bet
yeah but realistically Burns doesn't hit hard enough to put a stoic Gomez down, and Gomez doesn't have it left to get right on top of Burns to put him away.
So Burns on points for me.
Interesting sidepoint....Neil Sinclair went 12 rounds against the Italian that KO'd Watson, Petrucci I think, I think it was Neil's first and only 12 rounder, aged something like 34 or 35.

I'm convinced Gomez doesn't have 12 rounds left in him against anyone, even a non puncher.NorthEastBoxingFan wrote:yeah but realistically Burns doesn't hit hard enough to put a stoic Gomez down, and Gomez doesn't have it left to get right on top of Burns to put him away.

Re: Gomez-Burns.....Great Bet
imo i think that burns has a bit of power there and will stop gomez between rounds 7-9. give burns his dues, he stopped amidu who went the distance with ali funeka for the wba lightweight title (funeka MD). you can say that other than the funeka fight that amidu's record is patchy but funeka went on and held his own against campbell.
Re: Gomez-Burns.....Great Bet
Well if you look at their respective clashes against Johanneson, Burns was floored 3 times. To my memory Gomez wasn't down was he? I realise he got stopped, and I think Burns made it to the (final) bell.
As regards Gomez' ability to do 12 Hagler, I think you may be surprised, he was doing okay against Johanneson, in that fight he expended a hell of a lot of energy, which to me, suggests if he paced himself there's enough there to do 12. Plus he's a natural fighter so I don't think he'll waste a lot of "nervous" energy, too seasoned in my book.
Burns, who I didn't necessarily mean to paint as powerless, should be quick enough and young enough to avoid Gomez' danger shots and get a points win. Possibly a late stoppage but I won't be having a punt. My boxing bets of late have been utterly abysmal.

He will go at the same pace as he did against Khan & Arthur its the only way he can win it, and if he doesn't he we get stopped mid to late!search wrote:This could easily go 12 rounds guys. Take a look at his last 6 loses
TKO 5
TKO 6
TKO 5
TKO 6
TKO 8
TKO 9

Big money coming in for Burns he has gone from a 8/13 shot to a 8/15 jolly, some bookies going 2/5.
Also the above mentioned bet for the fight not going the 12 is now 8/13 from evens.

Yes Johanneson put Gomez down, he got up and was under alot of pressure when Mickey Vann jumped in and stopped it. Gomez was furious but the right call from the ref.NorthEastBoxingFan wrote:Well if you look at their respective clashes against Johanneson, Burns was floored 3 times. Difficult to tell but I am leaning towards a Burns stoppage in the last 4 rounds. He seems to sitting down on his shots more and I think Gomez doesn't have the legs for twelve rounds at this stage. Also the weight - Gomez was 150lbs(!), 140lbs and 140lbs for his last three fights. Ten pounds is a lot to shift, especially when you are already in good nick. I remember him talking about a move up in weight after the loss to Kirakovseyan which was a long time ago. Making 130lbs can't be any easier now.

Gomez seems to do well north of the border. I know he isnt the fighter he was, but never write him off. He loves a tear up and you have to be pretty tough to stand up to him. It all depends on his dedication to training, if his preparation is right Gomez might get it. Cant see Burns winning by KO/TKO but I can see him winning on points if he survives the Gomez onslaught. Good fight in prospect with a bit of wrestling thrown in.

A good one, yeah, but it was just even money, had it been a big payoff it would have been much better.

It was an even money shot that went off a 1/3 shot, that is pretty good value in my book.whicker wrote:A good one, yeah, but it was just even money, had it been a big payoff it would have been much better.
Its not very often you can pick a big priced winner in boxing unless you pick a round which in all honesty it a bit of a lottery.
£10 on 17 consecutive even money winners placing the winnings on the next selection will win you 1 million
Re: Gomez-Burns.....Great Bet
Can I just clarify that even money is 100% immediate return on your investment? Any millionaire would snatch your hand off for a ten per cent return in business.whicker wrote:A good one, yeah, but it was just even money, had it been a big payoff it would have been much better.

Sad to see Gomez stopped so easily. He was an easy target for Burns and no match for Burns speed. I didnt expect Burns to get the stoppage before the fight but the accurate shots plus quantity soon made me think a stoppage was possible. Sadly Michael just doesnt have it anymore, but he knows it now.
