Have to agree - didn't think for one minute Tony Quigley would win the fight - but in those first 2 rounds and then that cut he inflicted on Tony Dodson would have had some fighters quitting or the corner pulling them out - on paper with the pull outs I thought the show would end up being a bit flat - but I thoroughly enjoyed myself and as for the Dodson v Quigley fight - wow!!! really enjoyed that one!!!

Nice one Spud, :TU: I remember those debates and I thought his courage he showed tonight proved he is more than "bottler" - he was a warrior, and Tony Quigley also. I am sure he will be back.

Although, I think it was Ben's comments that upset Tony more.

Fantastic fight - both men poured it on each other.

Magee will take that belt of Quigley though i feel and maybe create an opportunity for Dodson to get back into the mix again.

Will Rob Reid throw his hat into the mix now, along with Paul Smith ?

Interesting times !

Hey Stu lets not go back to those dark old days - I remember seeing Tony at the Haye/Barrett fight and we had a giggle then about the "forums" - I honestly thought the fight was going t be boring and predictable but it was anything but that. The courage both fighters showed was fantastic.

A note which the commentators picked up on - Quigley could get down to middleweight and also takes one hell of a good shot - it makes me think how good he could be at middleweight!!!

Completely and utterly agree with you then, looked to have a decent chin and definitely has the arsenal.

Amazing fight..
Quigley shocked me, i thought it was Dodsons for the taking at 1 point.
Both warriors!!!
I cant see Quigley going any further than Domestic level at S.middleweight but at middle i think he could stir it up a little.

Brilliant fight, and a top performance by both men. In the end Quigley just had the edge, but Dodson did look strong for most of the bout too- a top quality British title bout, with two fighters who showed each other great respect, exactly what British Boxing needs.

I had Dodson up going into the last. Great effort from both lads. The way they hugged BEFORE the last round tells you everything you need to know about this great sport.

What an effort from Dodson. I really wanted him to win that, but Quigley turned it into a real classic with the late stoppage.

The real issue is not that Dodson did well, but that he had a disagreement with Spud on these very forums. That's the real story of the night.

Matthews wasn't pleased, and stormed out the ring. Not sure , but he may have spat at the ref, or could have been spitting out his gumshield. Again, I'm not sure about this, but the PA might have described him as a "bad loser."

A fan of his (a very big guy) stormed down from his seat and hurrled abuse at the referee, who looked at him but didn't respond, and generally was being loud and somewhat aggressive/abusive.

Now, it WAS a bad decision, but behaviour of people like that in the crowd is what puts people off coming to boxing- you don't see it on telly, of course.

I like Derry- he is a good boxer- but this sort of behaviour by him and his fan isn't doing the sport (or himself) any favours.

When did it happen in the fight (what round) what was happening before... was Matthews well on top. It looked a terrible stoppage, but not sure how much he had left judging by the way he went down. It looked out of exhaustion.

Maybe its a little bit of Karma given how many chances he had vs Choi to continue. Matthews has been in two badly officiated fights - one in his favour, one not in his favour.

Bless you - that chip on your shoulder is coming to the fore yet again - you are that obsessed about me you choose to make comment and yet again you try to court favour with the rest of the forum to start another spat against me on here - this is a boxing forum not a school playground - if you felt that strongly about my thread - you could have chose 2 options - either PM me with your comments or you could have left the thread well alone and started your own - instead as usual you chose a 3rd which was the childish one.

Your petty feud you have with me has no place on this forum - what you should be doing is unequivocally congratulating Tony Dodson on an outstanding performance in an outstanding fight.

For the record - My comment concerning the spats with Tony Dodson is extremely relevant - myself and Tony had more than a mere argument on here on a number of topics particularly concerning his pull outs from the Carl Froch fights - my comments towards him were wrong and well out of order - last nights fight proved what a fantastic fighter Tony Dodson is and in addition it proved the courage Tony has for a scrap is totally beyond question.

Again - fantastic fight you did yourself and boxing proud Tony!!!

Whilst making your anti-Dodders comments did you regard yourself as an integral part of Hennessey Sports ?
Now as an integral part of Hayemaker do you need to curry favour with Dodders ?

Hard to say if it was exhaustion , and the view from the crowd is never as good as the ref's view. He was certainly winning the fight, won the first three round easily, then Harry started going for it. We thought it almost looked like a tumble, or clash of heads that put him down- but again, as I say, the angle we were at etc wasn't ideal.

Dodson redeemed himself in the eyes of Spud. Spud respects him now. Well done Tony.

Like I say, great performance, the man fought out of his skin. I thought he was well winning the fight. A really compact pressure fighter.

IMO this makes Froch's win look a fair bit better. I hope Dodson wins another British title, or gets some other kind of opportunity.

Was the cut from a punch? or was it from that grazing shove that put him down in the 2nd?

I think it was from a punch, he was hurt (IMO) before being shoved, that why a small shove put him down.

This is Matthews you mean, I assume? :)

Yeah, I'd say you are right - he went down and his corner, who will know their man well, suggested he take the 8.
