This thread is senseless. When Calzaghe landed clean, on anyone on the street, even doormen or "streetfighters", or against boxers 4 or 5 levels below his like Matt Hall, it would be goodnight Vienna.

Street fighting has more to do with ending it early - hard and fast.

In a streetfight would Joe's hands hold up?

Would Joe's messy scuffling hold-and-hit attacks be suited to streetfighting? I don't know.

Who cares?
true, and what if they clicnh? heads and teeth come into play then haha and low blows
we're discussing a fictionalised match up between Calzaghe and Hall, or just Calzaghe and some "streetfighter". It's never going to take place so on that basis can we not just please assume that both have had the same hours sleep, both had their cocoa pops for breakfast and both their hands are fine......do we really need to worry what week of his "training camp" Joe Calzaghe is in prior to this MAKE BELIEVE fight

you're giving this thread such bad press!!!!

This is a stupid thread , when i was boxing , another doorman i worked with used to tell every body who would listen that he would kick my head in , in the street because he would bite and stick the boot in .And lots off other nasty things he would do , we did end up having a set too , and first thing he noticed was i hit harder, second thing he noticed was I could take the odd one he landed , 3rd thing he noticed is when he did manage too grab me and wrestle me to the ground , I BIT HIM , when i got up I KICKED HIM IN THE FACKING HEAD .He was just a street thug bully used to bashing people did'nt like it when it come back

Not a nice story i know, nothing too brag about, and lucky enough you can count on one hand the amount off street fights i have had. but facts are besides generally being fitter and able to be hit without folding BOXERS CAN FIGHT DIRTY HAS WELL .

No, doormen are doormen, streetfighters are streetfighters, doormen think they are streetfighters.

I've worked on the doors and most doormen are roiders who can't fight at all, they look the part and the scares off most and can last up to a minute throwing someone around.
These days with these silly new licences many doormen are student sorts who can afford to buy it and with clean records.
If you have had a caution for anything in the last five years your licence will be revoked, unless the fella has been successful in the lengthy and costly appeals proceedure.
I still have my own firm and now consider the industry a bit of a joke.

The old doorman is long gone!! The cave man who stood in front of you and said I don't care who you are or what your name is!! That guy has been dead for about 10 years..As soon as they bought in all the licensing police etc that was the end of it all!! If you don't work alongside the police these days then your security firm won't last 5 mins..

They are now stewards like at a football match..They don't fight they wait for the police to come and then go off on the sick with stress for 6 weeks.... Doorman years ago were proper..5 to 10 fights a night and working on a door that held 2000 people and there were only 2 men doin the door.People years ago used to get boozed up and go out looking for a fight with a doorman.

Now you just get guy's in daft jackets telling you were the toilets are.The security industry is a fully changed over thing, Criminal record = NO BADGE and a guarentee you say 5 to 10 yrs ago every single doorman had a criminal conviction of some kind!! The guys on the door years ago could seriously have a fight! This I know for a fact..

Your right mate. A pal of mine has just got his badge and has to stay working at the venue he is at for at least a year before he can move on. the only places where you seem some old school doormen are pubs near footie grounds on matchday.

Some posts in this thread are epic!
Guys thinking they could beat other people they have probably never met in their life in a streetfight, let alone multi wieght world champion boxers is pretty funny stuff!

"I know loads of guys that could beat Calzaghe in the street" Unless you have seen Calzaghe in the street this is impossible to say surely!!?

I have seen a local "streetfighting tough guy" get beat by a guy having his first real streetfight before! I know, even at my relatively young age, that to assume you can beat anyone in a streetfight is the first step to getting your head kicked in :TU:

Anyway, I know a few Sunday League Pub Players who could do way more keep ups than Wayne Rooney :TU:

It all depends on what you class as a streetfighter, true streetfighters are skilled martial artists not 18 stone bouncers who've knocked a couple of kids out with the aid of a knuckleduster and a couple of mates as backup.

Agree with that - these guys can take you out in a matter of seconds because that what they train years to do. Also in these martial arts there are no rules, in fact gouging is actually taught. But the thing is most guys trained in these arts will always avoid a fight whenever possible as they have the confidence in themselves knowing they don't need to prove anything. I've a few mates who train in systema (russian special forces martial art) and wing tsun. Of course in a street fight one punch can win a fight but people trained in these arts use joint manipulation and can easily negate punches and kicks, so I'd take them to win in most instances. They also practice full contact sparring to an extent- of course there is only so far you can go in practising joint manipulation without causing serious injury.

Insane thread  what exactly is a trained streetfighter ???? and where do these mythical street fights take place ?
most of the time its
a) two pi***d up lads get into a fight lasts 1 minute bit of blood and a chipped tooth
b) pi**ed up lad or lads have a go at a bouncer result see above
c) pi**ed up bully have a go at a lad who doesnt want to fight, sometimes resulting in serious injury.
The thought that theres 'trained' martial artist / special forces types going streetfighting on a night out is complete tripe, 99% of streetfights are caused by testorone and alcohol always have been always will be.

Ex pro heavyweight Carl Gizzi (fought Bugner, Dunn, McAlinden, Bodell, http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?hu ... &cat=boxer ) worked a door in my home town in the 90s. He was getting on a bit but he was twice the size of most punters, had knuckles the size of most people's elbows, and his reputation preceded him. He was very affable and always immacutely dressed; dinner suit and bowtie. Smoked a pipe. A real gent, but apparently formidable. Having said that, I never saw him have to get physical. If there was any trouble, he'd just calmly walk over and talk to whoever was making trouble, and they'd soon sit down and shut up! Respect for the old school. :box:

I remember him fondly......he used to clean the windows in our street as well. I knew him so he'd bang on my window at about 7am and I'd open it to find this giant of a man peering bag at me with a pipe in his mouth, asking for more water :)

No i dont drink at all but let me clarify my position. I am a 3rd dan black belt in ju-jitsu and also a black belt in karate(the latter one would have no relevance on the street) I think that would give me a better than average shot.

14st Irish Welder beats a 9st Chinese Karate expert everyday of the week :TU:

Surely pointing to your training in formal martial arts is being a tad hypocritical when saying just because Calzaghe is a great boxer, doesn't mean he can have a tear up in the street! :TU:
