Rhodes V Small- when is this one now?
Rhodes V Small- when is this one now?
Just as the title says!
Hayemaker 6 was, in the end, dead good- but I still am looking forward to Small V Rhodes . Any provisional dates? How is Ryan feeling after his illness?
Hopfully this will go ahead soon , I would hate for it to be one of those "potential crackers that never happened."
I'm being cynical now, but would both Hayemaker and Sports Network be keen to risk it?
But yeah- I hope this happens! The natural choice of venue is Sheffield, I just hope it is not in London (too far!)

Can't see it happening - Small may not be to everyone's taste, but he's been shafted in my opinion.
Re: Rhodes V Small- when is this one now?
What a stupid notion that is!!
Listen Rhodes has been in with Otis Grant as a 20 year old do you honestly think he is scared of Anthony Small.
The guy had a bad cold - to suggest otherwise is a slight on a top man like Rhodes
Some people talk tosh

The only person bringing the word scared up, is you - So stop arguing with yourself.Wrists wrote:What a stupid notion that is!!

Re: Rhodes V Small- when is this one now?
I think he means that Small looks likely to have lost out on this crack at the British title.Wrists wrote:so how was Small shafted
I'm not saying I agree, as such, but it would be unlucky for Small if he didn't get this fight for wahtever reason.
Ryan Rhodes must be better now and ready to be training soon, so the logical thing to do would be to set a date.
Re: Rhodes V Small- when is this one now?
Right - well to be fair think Small deserves a crack if only to see Ryan win easily
Re: Rhodes V Small- when is this one now?
Well, I'd say Small might get this- but tis this sort of 50-50 fight that makes it all so appealling, and make it a frustration if it doesn't happen.
Re: Rhodes V Small- when is this one now?
I think with their styles it'd be an ugly fight.
Re: Rhodes V Small- when is this one now?
It's all very well winning the purse bid if you can't then afford to stage the fight. ![[icon_e_geek.gif] :geek:](./images/smilies/icon_e_geek.gif)

Re: Rhodes V Small- when is this one now?
Small is the mandatory so it definitely will happen unless Rhodes vacates.
Re: Rhodes V Small- when is this one now?
McIntyre was stripped because of injury. Was Magee stripped or vacated?
What I'm getting at is if this is the same as the above two, why hasn't Rhodes been stripped? Or was McIntyre forced to pull out twice?

Re: Rhodes V Small- when is this one now?
Mc Intyre pulled out on more than one occasion, and could not give a guarentee when he could fight.
Magee relinquished the title he wasn't stripped.
The Rhodes fight has been postponed.
Emerson - you cannot be selective in making a point.
There are numerous examples of postponements of British Titles that have not led to the belt holder being stripped.
If you've got a beef over McIntyre and his treatment then fair enough - I happen to agree the decision was harsh.
However that's totally different to a fight being postponed because the belt holder had / has flu.

Re: Rhodes V Small- when is this one now?
Thanks for clarifying. Provided Mr Smith and Co follow the same rules for any instance where the fighter pulls out twice consecutively I'm happy.
Re: Rhodes V Small- when is this one now?
Right, so any news of when the fight might be? No worries, I'm just wondering if the wheels are in motion yet to set a date.twenty six wrote:Mc Intyre pulled out on more than one occasion, and could not give a guarentee when he could fight.

Re: Rhodes V Small- when is this one now?
Can someone educate me.
What happens next ?
Does the original promoter put this fight on or does it go out to purse bids ?
Thanks

Re: Rhodes V Small- when is this one now?
I would assume it is still done by the promotor, as was the case with Appleby V Lindsay.

In some cases if it is the Champion who pulls out then - after consultation with the BBBofC he may step down on the condition he gets the next fight against the new champion - this happens quite a bit - it helps the promoter out etc etc etc

Re: Rhodes V Small- when is this one now?
I suspect that Ryan might have something a little bigger in the pipeline, which is what I meant when I said Small was getting shafted.
Let's see how it plays out, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Rhodes move onwards to something a little bigger and vacate the British title.
Only my opinion of course![[icon_e_geek.gif] :geek:](./images/smilies/icon_e_geek.gif)

Re: Rhodes V Small- when is this one now?
Well, if that DID happen I'm sure they can find Small someone easy to beat for a Friday Fight Night for the British title.Twinkle Toes wrote:I suspect that Ryan might have something a little bigger in the pipeline, which is what I meant when I said Small was getting shafted.

I must admit that I'm getting the feeling that this has been cancelled rather than postponed.

Re: Rhodes V Small- when is this one now?
The way Anthony Small was in the lead up to the "supposed" fight with Rhodes and then his rantings concerning Rhodes pull out has had me confused.
Normally I love the banter that goes on - I have always stated it generates interest in a fight and gets people interested etc etc - I am one fan who likes the hype that goes on in the sport.
However - in my opinion the way Small was concerning Rhodes showed for me what a complete lack of respect Small has for what is acceptable in boxing and I feel the boundaries are quite wide - I feel Small stepped outside those boundaries !!!
