Surely pointing to your training in formal martial arts is being a tad hypocritical when saying just because Calzaghe is a great boxer, doesn't mean he can have a tear up in the street!

No, in my opinion Calzaghe would not be as good on the street as someone like Froch who throws meaningfull and hurtfull punches and who actually wants to ko you.

So Calzaghe is well placed.

About street fighting, first there is no such thing as a fair street fight & 2nd virtually all street fights are won by the guy who lands the first punch, it would be the same if Joe & Matt came to blows.

I did Karate years ago, doing shit in sparring in a boxing ring did more for my mental confidence to want to defend myself in the street than having a brown belt.

Difference is your taking a proper punch in boxing, in Karate they snap it back before it even breezes you.

Its all bollocks but i do know one thing in my 50's now , i'm still pretty fit , go so far has to say fitter than the average 25 year old , i'm fairly strong or so they tell me years off training and working on building sites. basis off the story is being a ex boxer and trainer i can still take a punch and i know i have still got a hurtful punch , being from a big fammilly lots of boys i grew up wrestling, all in all if i need to i can back myself on the street .

But i've got a mate he's 6'2 6'3 he's played rugby all his life his used to taking knocks, he has a head that looks and feels like a besser block and his physice is around the same size has a facking gorrilla. this guy is not the strongest guy in the world , but by christ he's the strongest i have ever met , going back too when we were in our 20's i was boxing pro he was playing pro rugby we used to fack about and he would always manage to ruggby tackle me get hold off me and squeeze so hard i would be saying let go ya big bastard inside 20 sec, he even picked me up over his head once and threatened to throw me in the canal , if i did'nt apolagize for calling him ugly , i did'nt apolagize he threw me in ha ha.

Any way point i'm making he had NO formal training off any sort now in his fifties a gentle giant but by christ on the rare occasions he has gone off people run for cover , just too big and too strong.

So you can believe the old saying a good big en will all ways beat a good little en .

Funny story about him , is we went to watch a rugby game he was playing , and he said before the game such and such for the other team is a real knob head i'm gonna make him look stupid ,

Anyway during the game this guy has the ball my mate boof short for boofhead ,, tackles the guy , stops him dead in his tracks but picks him up under his arm the guys got the ball boof has him in a way he can't let go off it and with this guy under his arm he runs all the way down the pitch carrying this other player he run off the pitch and dropped the guy in a creek , he then told him last time we played you , you were throwing punches hope ya cooled down now.

It was facking hilarious even the other team were rolling round laughing. .

Ex pro heavyweight Carl Gizzi (fought Bugner, Dunn, McAlinden, Bodell, http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?hu ... &cat=boxer ) worked a door in my home town in the 90s. He was getting on a bit but he was twice the size of most punters, had knuckles the size of most people's elbows, and his reputation preceded him. He was very affable and always immacutely dressed; dinner suit and bowtie. Smoked a pipe. A real gent, but apparently formidable. Having said that, I never saw him have to get physical. If there was any trouble, he'd just calmly walk over and talk to whoever was making trouble, and they'd soon sit down and shut up! Respect for the old school.

I remember him fondly......he used to clean the windows in our street as well. I knew him so he'd bang on my window at about 7am and I'd open it to find this giant of a man peering bag at me with a pipe in his mouth, asking for more water :)

Any idea where he is/what he's up to now? Last saw him at a Craig Winter fight (replete with tux and pipe, natch). Tried to interview him for BN's "Where are they now?" a couple of years ago but was told he keeps himself to himself these days. Health problems, perhaps?

I would say a lot of good street fighter would handle Calazghe on the streets with ease. He just would not have the style to grit it out nor the ko punch.

Most stret foigjhters are not athletes, they can fight for 10 minutes and then its either fight over or they are knackered.

Also, Calzaghe has a great chin ans geat engine!

Lads this is not a effing video game it's boxing, and Calzaghe, whether you like him or not, is regarded as a modern great of the sport in Britain.

Hall has done eff all bar beat Pryce.

And ben knocked out by Conception.

I like Hall as a fighter, but not impressed by the out of the ring spat.

Plus his timing and speed would compensate for what you perceive as a "lack of power". Calzaghe would be a nightmare in the street. I'd run a fckin mile and try to hide in a bin before I got too tired.

I've worked on the doors and most doormen are roiders who can't fight at all, they look the part and the scares off most and can last up to a minute throwing someone around.
These days with these silly new licences many doormen are student sorts who can afford to buy it and with clean records.
If you have had a caution for anything in the last five years your licence will be revoked, unless the fella has been successful in the lengthy and costly appeals proceedure.
I still have my own firm and now consider the industry a bit of a joke.
Most doormen have never had a fight in their life

I knew he was a Boxer but most did not. He could scrap also, kick boxer, but he was a great guy to have on the door.
