Hatton v Pacquiao to generate $90 million

Post by ALI »

About 9 minutes into this clip taken at the LA press conference, Adam Smith asks Richard Schaefer what he thinks this fight will generate:

Quite an astonishing figure considering this is a light welterweight fight with no titles on the line! It emphises just how popular Hatton and Pacquio really are.

Does anyone know what Pacquio and Hatton are earning for this fight?

I could believe it. Floyd v Oscar made well over $120m in total.

Depends whether they mean what the fighters will receive or total gross.

I suppose it all depends what ppv it does in the US. It must be as good as sold out at the box office because several casinos are showing live screenings

You think it'd do 75% of that fight, neither Hatton or Pacquaio are big in the US, but it could do 1million Brit PPVs, at £20 making £20million (US$30m), doubt it will do more than 600k at $50 ($30m) in the US. Phillipinos get the fight free in Asia, the global rights will be say $4m. Thats a total of $64m, can't see the live gate making another $30m. Loads of money anyway
don't call it a comeback

I think they'd be doing really well to get 1million buys in the UK - they are going to have to sell it hard in the last month, there was much more earlier publicity for the PBF fight, PBF did his own bit towards generating huge media interest and of course Hatton was unbeaten then. I think 800k buys would be a major success and it could be lower.

Still, as you say loads of money all round either way.

The Ring/Lineal Light Welterweight title is on the line, which is the ONLY one that matters anyway.

Doesn't matter. I'd prefer if it wasn't on the line, to prevent paying those leeches anything.
