2009 Michigan state championships. Who are your pics to win

Post by random »

119 ernie gaza
125 James Smith
132 Erick Delon
141 Jonny Garcia
152 Leandre White
165 J'Leon Love
178 Jarvis Edwards
201 kyle Mcnutt
201+ Craig Lewis

ernie won the national GG, he should not lose at a state level, unless him and James Smith fight the same weight class

James Smith has been stepping his game up, beating erine 2 of 3 times and loseing a 2-1 split to Ra'Sheed Wareen, he should go far this year.

Jonny is a big strong prospect at 141

White and Love have had there weight classes on lock. I see no one beating these two.

Jarvis should do better at 178, 178 is a wide open weight class that he should win

201 kyle is the fastest heavy weight in michigan, he should really win. him and Dan Smith will be a great fight.

201+ Craig is weird but happen to beat everyone. Good luck craig

Ok thats a pretty strong team. Kyle McNutt is boxing 201 plus in the GG but if at 201 that will be a good fight at 201 with Jordan Shimmell. I think Tyler James will go 112 for the Michigan state championships and will add on to that team.

Come out to the armory on April 17th and 18th to see the State Championships. The guys from Detroit will be competing in the Detroit GG on April 3-5, 2009. In regard to the Michigan GG, I think my son Jordan will win his 4th straight 201 pound Michigan GG title. He is training hard to be ready.

Don't forget about other guys from West MI including Ryan Schmidt and Vince Jennings at 125, Raeese Aleem at 132, Nick Klein and Billy Johnson at 152, and Brandon Larvadain at 165. East MI also has Merrill Martinez at 125 or 132, Morris Young at 132 or 141, Arnold Smith at 141, Jose Bernal at 152, Spencer Weiss at 165, and Vernon Washington at 178. There are many others including the ones you listed Ernie Garza, Tyler James, Johnny Garcia, Jarvis Edwards, Jordan Shimmell and Kyle McNutt.

I think if everyone enters, the State Tournament in Bay City could be awesome. We may lose a few guys to the pros after the golden gloves.

Ron - there are NO state tournaments in Bay City. The Michigan GG are being held in Wyoming (GR metro area) and the LBC's senior open/JO tourney is being held in Port Huron.

The LBC tourney is always interesting. Our LBC is one of the strongest in the nation as is our Region - Region 5, aka the Great Lakes Region. Go to the Akron regional championships over Memorial Day weekend and you will see some great bouts. The winners of the region should be able to do very well at the U.S. Championships unless they are too beat up from getting through the GG season and then our LBC and Regional tourneys. Wow! In 2-3 months some of these boxers could have competed in 15-18 bouts if they win both the NGG and US Chp or at least make the finals or semi-finals. Now you see how some of these boxers have so many bouts.

Hey, Bay City, Port Huron, it's all the same to me. It should be a great weekend of boxing.

The Michigan LBC's senior open tournament is May 15-17, 2009. The regionals in Akron will be May 23-25, 2009. The U.S. Championships in Denver are June 8-13, 2009 with the travel days being June 7 and June 14.

You Detroit area guys think any town outside of the Detroit Metro area is the same as any other. Let me explain the difference - Bay City is the one further away, while Port Huron is closer. Now look at the back side of your left hand. Bay City is at the bottom point between your thumb and your pointer finger. Now Detroit is the bottom knuckle of your thumb and Port Huron is the second knuckle of your thumb. Now I hope this geography lesson helps your Ron so that you won't get lost and start traveling towards your fingers and just continue up the eastern border of the thumb. LOL, sorry I couldn't resist.

Yes, it will be a great weekend of boxing.

How can you forget about Jordan? :D He is the defending 3 time MI GG state champ.

Kyle and Jordan have sparred many times even as recently as 2 weeks ago. I know who my money would be on! Antonio moved Kyle up to 201+ so they wouldn't box each other. It was a smart move as he won the West MI GG and will most likely win the Mich GG. He does have to defeat Matt Maciag from the East MI GG, which I think he will. Jordan and Kyle will then be teammates again and will continue to give each other sparring to get ready for nationals.

Assuming all 3 win their tournaments, we will have to wait and see how they all do in Salt Lake City. I will have Jordan ready for whomever he will face in Port Huron.
