Yeah the belt is inconsequential, and we all know that, and it IS a good fight, but it just sticks on my craw to hear Hoppa gushing about fighting for a "world title in Vegas", and the obviously uninformed reported lapping it up and repeating it as fact, as Hoppa has somehow "made it" just by getting this far.

Oliver, i definately agree with you in terms of people reporting it as a world title fight and the ill informed believing it... However i feel that Hoppas excitement about fighting in Vegas for a title is ok.
We gotta understand, the blokes been fighting in RSL clubs his whole career, how exciting it must be for him to be fighting for a "world title" in the mecca of boxing... Las Vegas!!
To be honest, im really not a fan lol. But im happy for him. If i was a boxer, and doing the above, id be rapt. I couldnt hide my excitement!

Fighting in Vegas is a dream for any boxer, and to be doing so against a big name is even better. That story sells itself. "Aussie heavyweight fights ex-champ in Vegas", "Hoppa takes on Lennox conqueror in Sin City"... etc. By all means attach a bogus strap to it, that's par for the course these days, but they just shouldn't lead the article with it... and Hoppa himself must know the belt's real worth.
Question is, though... if he wins, who would you rank as Australia's best "world heavyweight champion", him or Joe Bugner (WBF)?

Bugner won that fight because Smith did his shoulder in. Joke title, joke fight.
Re: John Hopoate Vs Oliver McCall
Craig Peterson still gets my vote as out best ever heavyweight. ![[icon_neutral.gif]](./images/smilies/icon_neutral.gif)

Hey Trev, why don't you slash your wrists and be done with it?
Peter Jackson went 61 rounds with a future world champion (Corbett) and you want to rate a drug addict in front of him?

Well Petersen knocked down future world champion Herbie Hide ;)
Re: John Hopoate Vs Oliver McCall
that brings up an interesting point. How much better is David Haye than the Herbie Hide of 1994? Herbie thought he could do what David is trying to do. Is David that much betteroliverfennell wrote:Well Petersen knocked down future world champion Herbie Hide ;)
By the way, answer if you will, but only time will tell. It's kind of a rhetorical question....you know the type.

Re: John Hopoate Vs Oliver McCall
If Hoppa wins this belt ( as little as it maybe) he will still be world champion> I think the first for Australia as a heaveyweight. He could then maybe get a shot at the other title holders. Iets not forget how may fights this hoppa has had.I have notbeen a fan of Hoppa till now . Let just get behind him and wish him well, his heart must be the size of phalaps.Hoppa good on you I wish you well. :surprised:
Re: John Hopoate Vs Oliver McCall
has this fight been official yet? and can anyone confirm rumors of Leapai in preparation for the WBO regional title?

Colin you are having a laugh aren't you, no one and i mean no one considers the IBA a world title, Hoppa will not be Australia's first Heavyweight champion, these title's are only credited with world title status, WBC,WBO and IBF and even that can be argued at the legitimacy of a world title. The IBA is such a small organization they are lucky to have 1 sanctioned fight a year, as for being crowned a champion out of it, well it could only be the deluded boxer proclaiming that he is, while the rest of the world laughs.colin russell wrote:If Hoppa wins this belt ( as little as it maybe) he will still be world champion> I think the first for Australia as a heaveyweight. Note; The WBA have multiple champions in each of their divisions, and are very confusing and IMO, the WBO have leapfrogged them.

It is not even the IBA World title, just their "Intercontinental" title.Hounddawg wrote:Colin you are having a laugh aren't you, no one and i mean no one considers the IBA a world title, Hoppa will not be Australia's first Heavyweight champion, these title's are only credited with world title status, WBC,WBO and IBF and even that can be argued at the legitimacy of a world title.
