Gatti v Ward 1

I just bought it anmd watched it again what a fight man,how the hell the ref didnt stop it in favour of Ward in the 9th ill NEVER KNOW

Gatti was literally out on his feet in that round.

Still thought he won the fight overall though, by a couple of rounds if I remember rightly.

You could certainly argue that it should have been a stoppage, I remember though that Gatti came on strong in the 10th.

I love it at the end of the fight when Lampley says "Ward threw 67 power punches in that final round. He had to, because Arturo Gatti threw 99".

is it the 9th round when Gatti doesnt care about getting hit in the head and is just tucking his elbows in covering his ribs... that was also comical

ha, i watched Bowe-Holyfield 3 again last night.

When Holyfield goes down and barely gets up the ref Cortez says 'How do you feel', then Larry Merchant responds 'How do i feel? WONDERFUL! TERRIFIC!', i can't help but crack up everytime.

Ward-Gatti is a great fight. A lot of refs would of stopped it in the 9th, i would of stepped in after that huge right Ward landed in the corner, he sized it up with his left glove, and just whacked Gatti with the right. I love the combo Ward throws in the 5th as well.

I hardly ever watch taped fights anymore, just can't be arsed. At one time I used to pop a tape in every night of the week before going to sleep. I don't think I've ever watched Brodie v Chi or Gomez v Arthur other than on the night.

I might dig out my Dorin v Balbi tape for this weekend. Oh and while I'm at it I'll dust off Gatti v Tovar, which is quite simply the finest KO I've ever seen.

I've only got Dorin-Balbi 2, which is a decent fight but nothing like the war that the first was supposed to be. Haven't seen Gatti-Tovar but it must be an awesome KO if you rank it above the Gamache and Ruelas KOs. Ouch!

Does Holyfield get decked twice in that fight? Or am i remembering it wrong.

I seem to recall him getting decked, and then rallying to drop Bowe like a sack of shit, or was he just getting beaten soundly and then decks Bowe?

Amazing to think Gatti has been involved in no less than FOUR "Fights Of The Year"

Ward 1
Gabe Ruelas
Ivan Robinson 1
Wilson Rodriguez

Haven't seen them in awhile, but I recall either the Ruelas or Rodriguez fights were even better than the higher profile Ward fight.

no. Holyfield wins the first round. Then Bowe dominates but doesn't floor Holyfield. Holyfield had a well documented heart problem before the fight, and there were concerns about his health. Holyfield looked spent and was getting battered in the 5th. Foreman got to his feet and was shouting to Cortez that the fight should be stopped. Then at the beginning of the 6th Holyfield comes out blasting and floors Bowe. Shame he didn't have it in him follow up, Bowe's legs had gone, but so had Holyfield's energy.

The fight was stopped in the 8th. Holyfield walked into a ruge right, got up at 8...then all it took was a couple more shots that only landed on the gloves to send Evander down again and it was waved off.

Gamache was already nicely softened up after taking a horrible whack at the end of the first, while I believe Ruelas was more than able to carry on.

Against Tovar (okay I know Tovar was limited) Gatti just showed how devastating his power was at 130. In the space of half a second Tovar went from being fresh and keen to being crumpled in a heap on the floor from a perfect, beautiful left hook. It's about the best punch I've ever seen thrown.

Damn why couldn't Gatti come along a bit later. Gatti v Morales could have been one of the biggest little-men showdowns ever.

Twas a thrilling round (the 9th) without doubt. I remember rewinding and calling my girlfriend (wife to be, getting married July 30th 2005) in to the living room and all she could say was 'fornicating hell'.

And she's a classy bird
