Re: Top Fighter in Amateur Boxing
Is he trained by Anne Wolfe? Also same guy, who was involved in this:
(November 3, 2008)--A state district judge has accepted a Travis County jury's recommendation and sentenced ex-Golden Gloves boxer Kurtiss.Colvin to 10 years' probation Monday for a fatal beating in 2007.
Colvin, 22, was convicted on Oct. 22 for his role in the beating death of David Rivas Morales, 40, during a dispute in a parking lot.
Colvin was originally charged with manslaughter, but jurors found him guilty of the lesser charge of aggravated assault with serious bodily injury.
Police said Morales died of blunt-force trauma to the head after he was attacked while trying to protect a driver who struck and injured a toddler.
A 16-year-old boy who also punched Morales admitted to manslaughter in juvenile proceedings and received eight years of probation.

Re: Top Fighter in Amateur Boxing
He should stop showing off in his bouts. I can think of a bunch of 165 pound guys that will defeat him if they match up at the NGG. Luis Arias, Marcus Browne, J'Leon Love, and others will defeat him.
Re: Top Fighter in Amateur Boxing
I can see the guy has raw talent, but I can also tell he's cocky as hell, and those videos of his fights make him look good cause every one of his opponents in the video is garbage.
Re: Top Fighter in Amateur Boxing
Yep! Let's see him try it against the guys I mentioned.415BOXING wrote:I can see the guy has raw talent, but I can also tell he's cocky as hell, and those videos of his fights make him look good cause every one of his opponents in the video is garbage.

165 is probably not a good weight class to start proclaiming your "greatness". More power to him if he can prove it at the National GG. Dennis you could add another 4 names to that list that will also "bring it".
Re: Top Fighter in Amateur Boxing
I'm sure there will be at least 10 boxers in the 165 pound class that will give that guy more than he can handle. If he is lucky, he will get a good draw and not have to face one of those guys in the first two days of the tournament. Otherwise, he could be sent home early.atlanta coach wrote:165 is probably not a good weight class to start proclaiming your "greatness". More power to him if he can prove it at the National GG. Re: Top Fighter in Amateur Boxing
I think I've posted on this previously...
In 2007 state finals, he lost to Omar Henry.
2008 he wasn't competing..
I agree his competition was lacking in the state tournament this year..
He was an outstanding T&F athlete with some amazing 200m and 400m times. Under 20sec in the 200.

I'm surprised Colvin hasn't stuck with track, he had very good times for a high school athlete.

LBC GG report for San Antonio:
http://www.mysanantonio.com/sports/Anot ... final.html
...
Colvin said he was acquitted of murder recently after spending roughly 18 months in prison. Since coming back home, he's poured himself into resurrecting his boxing career.

This is what gives boxing a bad name. A kid learns the sweet science, then wants to show the world he's bad. The knowledge of Colvin's talent preceeds him, but a man lost his life and that's the only thing that matters. Unforgiveable.

Whoa, whoa.. maybe I caused this comment by my posting a snipit of information, butprimp wrote:This is what gives boxing a bad name. note that it said ACQUITTED.
And recalling the event which put him in jail, I think he was coming to the aid of a child which had been hit by a drunk driver. Furthermore, a jury found him not-guilty of murder. Two sides to every story, of course, but
no reason Colvin shouldnt be commended for getting back on the right track and having some success in boxing.
So.. IMHO, this is what gives boxing a GOOD name, when an person atones for his mistakes and then utilizes the sport to get his/her life on track and finds success.

You obviously don't know how many of our elite boxers, amateur and pro, have been in trouble or have records. Thank God for boxing as a way to redemption - more so than not.
Re: Top Fighter in Amateur Boxing
I do know, and sure boxing is a way out, but so many return after not fulfilling their dreams. Also, O.J. was AQUITTED.
Re: Top Fighter in Amateur Boxing
And O.J. Also returned for something else
unless i missed something
