I asked on another thread: what was the first 'world' title fight to be held at York Hall?

Hmm, bet it is a bit older than that. Mind you if it was, surely it would have been at Wembley or Crystal palance, pre 1980's any world title fight in the UK would have drawn vast crowds.
When you say world title, do you mean one of the big 3?

It's not one of the big three. It's not one of the small three either (IBO, WBU, WBF).

A Brit was involved. Good little banger with the overhand right. But he came up against a champion who picked up the pace with every round.

Just to make things a little more surreal - what was the first world title fight ( big four ) to be held at the legendary Latchmere Leisure Centre, Battersea?

Not that I was there, but I did somehow find myself at another of Duke's WBO fights, in the unlikely place of Lewisham Theatre, Catford a year later, against Benavides.

Amazing story really, after drifing into the wilderness he pursued a political career and went on to govern Zimbabwe.

We discussed him a while back. He has eye problems but ekes out a living as a doorman.

Be nice to track him down, get a photo, etc. I wonder who would know of his exact whereabouts?
